00:14 Light stringing from house to
00:16 house with every bulb and
00:18 lighting holiday spirit on the
00:20 South Side.
00:23 Every home can be beautiful,
00:25 especially in those communities
00:27 that are not as well lit.
00:29 Especially in those communities
00:30 where people forget about
00:32 themselves.
00:33 Along Martin Luther King Drive
00:35 from 35th to 115th, 500 houses
00:38 are draped with Christmas lights.
00:40 It makes somebody in the
00:41 community feel good. We make
00:43 them feel like they've been
00:44 cared about. Somebody's
00:45 thinking about them and when you
00:46 feel that way, they'll do extra
00:47 things to make sure the
00:48 community is taken care of and
00:50 they'll participate.
00:51 It took hundreds of volunteers
00:53 to make it happen. They had no
00:55 problem participating since it
00:56 makes the whole community feel
00:58 brighter year after year.
01:07 My Block, My Hood, My City made
01:09 sure the Be A Part of the Light
01:10 initiative was an experience
01:12 open to the whole community.
01:17 She had got some toys and stuff
01:19 and then Christmas decoration.
01:22 Jordan Jenkins left her first
01:23 event feeling fulfilled.
01:25 You know, like giving back to
01:27 community and stuff and hanging
01:28 out, it does mean a lot to me.
01:30 My Block, My Hood, My City says
01:31 from young to old, they want to
01:33 make everyone feel special.
01:38 Alderman Willem Hall says it
01:39 works.
01:41 Well, when people get Christmas
01:43 decorations in the 6th Ward,
01:45 it's just a magical feeling.
01:47 It's a feeling of hope, it's a
01:49 feeling of joy and with all
01:50 that's going on in Chicago and
01:52 the world, that's all we need.
01:54 My Block, My Hood says they're
01:55 always welcoming volunteers and
01:57 next year they want to grow the
01:58 number of houses even more.
02:00 On the South Side,
