00:00 One of the more important storylines of the season is Will and Kate's first meeting
00:04 and falling in love and that love story that they have.
00:07 We obviously know where it ends up, but I wondered what kind of research
00:10 did you want to do to play the characters?
00:14 Did you even do any research or did you rely on what Peter had written on the script?
00:18 I definitely did a lot of research and a lot of watching them,
00:23 but I think only focusing on the time period that's happened
00:29 and then nowhere past 2004/5-ish was really helpful for me
00:33 because she doesn't know if she ends up with William really,
00:36 let alone marries him or becomes a royal,
00:38 so it was useful for me to just play it like you don't know
00:42 and it's nice to play that what if and the tension and the friction
00:45 and everything like that. It's very exciting.
00:48 Of course, the research team, they send an amazing amount, a wealth of stuff,
00:54 but similarly, you don't have to take everything
00:57 because it's all there on the page in the script,
01:00 so that's nice to simplify it.
01:02 Sorry to interrupt you.
01:03 Also, that moment, there's not actually loads of information really
01:07 because it was a very private moment between them
01:11 and there was a whole trying to agree with the press at the time
01:15 to not intrude so much on William's private life so much.
01:19 There wasn't actually that much on their relationship
01:21 in terms of when they got together and everything.
01:23 There's bits and bobs in terms of stuff they've spoken about later,
01:26 but I think the most exciting bit for me and I hope both of us
01:30 was that trying to...
01:32 Because you know where they end up and trying to crunch up that timeline
01:35 as much as possible and put so many barriers.
01:37 And so, I mean, a dream for me would be at the end of episode seven until...
01:40 Have you seen episode seven?
01:42 - Yeah. - Yeah.
01:42 Until that final moment, you're like,
01:45 "I don't know how these two are going to get together.
01:47 It seems like it's just gone wrong."
01:49 And that is very exciting and very truthful.
01:52 It's never smooth sailing with these initial relationships.
01:55 It's always up, down, left, right.
01:56 So, yeah, just crunching up the timeline and making it truthful and real.
02:02 That was amazing and exciting.
02:03 - Thank you. - Thank you.
