00:00 Hey, good morning, Kyle T. Mosley of HBCU Legends on Sports Illustrated's Fan Nation.
00:06 I would like to give you guys like a breakdown of a conversation that I just had with Dr.
00:14 Kevin Granger over at Texas Southern University.
00:17 He is the VP of Athletics for the school and the decision maker for the football coaching
00:25 hire.
00:26 So, we talked a little bit about the characteristics of what they are looking for at Texas Southern.
00:32 He's looking for somebody who has had a proven record as a head football coach.
00:39 He's also looking at somebody who is a strong recruiter as well as somebody who is proven
00:45 to be successful as a head coach as well.
00:48 He did talk about they would consider some assistance, but sometimes assistance don't
00:53 understand the full magnitude of running a program.
00:58 He would like to have somebody who has some HBCU ties and knowledge of the HBCU world
01:06 because he expressed there's differences of course on how HBCU programs are run compared
01:12 to PWIs.
01:13 They also need to have somebody who can be able to move the program forward because they
01:20 felt like at Texas Southern University they were just on the precipice of getting over
01:26 the hump and moving forward under Coach McKinney.
01:33 They believe they have the talent and players in the building and they're trying to make
01:39 sure they recruit new talent to be able to come in to take them to the next level.
01:45 He wants someone who also understands the importance of connecting with the alumni as
01:51 well as connecting with the students and being able to get them and market the program successfully.
02:00 They have had a lot of names that are interested in the position, a lot of big names that are
02:10 interested in the position over at Texas Southern at this time.
02:15 So they're going through that list, compiling the top candidates, and they will start the
02:21 interviewing process pretty soon.
