Car drives round ice rink to test AI-powered anti-skid system

  • last year
A Guildford ice rink played host to a different kind of skater as researchers from the University of Surrey used the Guildford Spectrum to test a new anti-skidding feature with their autonomous car. The 90-minute test was a huge success – gathering more data than the researchers expected

01:19 This one was very cautious, for sure.

01:30 I think what we can do is we can just move the cones a little bit more,
01:35 so that we have fresh ice for this one.

02:13 I feel great because actually I think this session exceeded our expectations.
02:19 For researchers like us, it's quite difficult to find a test ring like this one.
02:26 Actually, I would kindly thank the Gifford Spectrum for the availability.
02:31 They were quite kind and professional to give us support and host us for this activity.
02:36 A lot of people are working on AI as well, not only for controllers like traction control,
02:42 but also for navigation systems, decision making.
02:47 So when we put all of this together, we are hoping for way, way, way safer vehicles.
