00:02 - Hello and welcome to National World Football Talk,
00:09 your nan's favorite football podcast, Ken.
00:11 On today's episode, we're going to be discussing
00:14 Celtic and Rangers' latest disappointing
00:18 Scottish Premiership results.
00:19 Both teams held two draws at the weekend
00:24 as Celtic maintained their lead at the top of the table,
00:28 but Rangers, who do have a game in hand.
00:31 I'm joined today by my Glasgow World colleague,
00:34 Declan McConville, to talk through the latest round
00:37 of fixtures there at the weekend.
00:39 It'd be an absolute calamity if Rangers were to lose
00:43 these final two games, you know,
00:46 given that it's a competition that obviously
00:48 everyone knows quite clearly,
00:49 Rangers are kind of better suited to,
00:51 it'd be safe to say, at this moment in time.
00:57 In terms of domestically, Declan,
00:58 I know it was a missed opportunity at the weekend,
01:00 but Rangers do have the game in hand.
01:03 Do you feel there is an opportunity there
01:07 for Clermont to kind of really make inroads into this lead?
01:10 You know, there is potential there.
01:12 They've got a cup final to look forward to next month.
01:14 The kind of whole kind of mood around Ibrox
01:17 would change dramatically as a result, you'd imagine?
01:20 - It probably would.
01:22 It's just always difficult.
01:23 I think the Europa League certainly makes it difficult
01:25 because, again, just naturally,
01:28 Rangers have been playing catch-up,
01:29 playing the Thursday night football,
01:30 Celtic the Tuesday, Wednesday.
01:32 And there's very little games between now
01:35 and early January that I think Rangers play
01:37 before Celtic, so.
01:39 And again, I think if you ask any football manager,
01:41 they'd rather the points are on the board
01:44 rather than having the game in hand.
01:46 The way this is also gonna work,
01:48 that Rangers, of course, have a game in hand
01:51 over Celtic just now, the weekend of the cup final,
01:55 which, again, as you see, could probably be
01:56 a feel-good factor at Ibrox
01:59 if they're going to beat Aberdeen and win the cup.
02:02 Celtic will play Hearts that weekend,
02:04 so again, could go two games clear of Rangers.
02:09 Rangers will have them in hand,
02:10 but again, it's about the points.
02:12 If that then goes to 11,
02:14 Rangers, I think, play just before Christmas,
02:16 the midweek Celtic have it all from Rangers play.
02:19 They win that game, it maybe goes back to eight,
02:21 game in hand.
02:24 But then you get that derby game,
02:25 and if it ends up going to 11 with a game in hand,
02:29 it's very difficult to turn over.
02:32 Having got to Christmas, again,
02:35 we could see the flip of that if Celtic
02:37 do drop any more points.
02:38 If they play like they did on Saturday,
02:40 they will drop more points.
02:41 So it's gonna be interesting to see.
02:44 But as I say, I think just by the way the fixtures
02:46 are working, it's probably working a wee bit more
02:48 in Celtic's favor with playing before Rangers
02:52 and whatnot and having a derby game at Celtic Park
02:55 at the end of the year.
