00:00 Well, Aggies fans, we're back at it.
00:07 I just came on here moments ago to tell you about quarterback Max Johnson making his way
00:13 to the transfer portal and leaving Texas A&M.
00:16 And I told you in the video, there's rumors, there's whispers about the new head coach.
00:22 And now it has been confirmed by multiple outlets.
00:25 So we will go ahead and confirm it here as well on the Aggies Daily Blitz here on FanStream
00:29 Sports and over at AllAggies.com that Mike Elko will be your next head coach of the Texas
00:34 A&M Aggies.
00:36 Of course, a familiar face.
00:37 He was the defensive coordinator under Jimbo.
00:41 Yeah, Jimbo brought him here from Notre Dame.
00:45 More on that in a minute.
00:48 And the Aggies excelled under, defensively, under Elko.
00:53 He took off to take the head coaching job at Duke after the 2021 season.
01:02 And as far as Duke's concerned, he had a successful run there.
01:07 He just went seven and five this season, but they were without Riley Leonard, their starting
01:11 quarterback for the majority of the year.
01:14 And they suffered numerous other injuries.
01:17 But he gave Duke just their third nine-win season in his first year last year, since
01:25 1941.
01:26 So if you can do that at Duke, I'm pretty sure they're going to love you forever.
01:30 They're probably not real happy that he's leaving.
01:33 And this just falls on the heels of less than 24 hours after the deal fell through with
01:36 Mark Stoops, another ex-Jimbo defensive guy.
01:42 Now we bring back Elko, another former Jimbo defensive guy.
01:48 But yeah, for all practical purposes, this seems like a really popular hire among Aggies.
01:55 Non-Aggies, of course, are scratching their heads.
01:56 You're bringing an ACC guy in here, and what do you ever do there?
02:01 I'm seeing things all over.
02:02 The ACC's bad, and he wasn't great.
02:05 But well, you know what?
02:06 He was great when he was here.
02:08 And that's what the Aggies are counting on.
02:10 And yeah, he was here.
02:11 That's a big thing for the Aggies, to bring back one of your own.
02:16 He was, of course, the head of the defense in the 9-1 season.
02:24 The Aggies were 34-14 with Elko at the helm defensively.
02:30 And since Elko has left, and I'm not implicating anybody else here, but since Elko left, the
02:35 Aggies are 12-12 in the two seasons since they left.
02:39 So it is what it is.
02:42 There's some good thoughts, good feelings with Elko coming back, I think, and most Aggies
02:47 are going to be on board with that.
02:49 It's not the big, sexy name.
02:50 And to be honest with you, I don't know who that big, sexy name would have been.
02:57 There wasn't anybody out there that I thought, "Oh my gosh, we have to go get him."
03:02 Nope, nobody.
03:03 There wasn't anybody out there, in my opinion, that you just had to go get.
03:08 And I think the Aggies did the smart thing.
03:10 Do I like how they got there?
03:13 No, not at all.
03:14 I don't like that at all.
03:15 It was a weird ride.
03:16 It was a weird trip.
03:18 It's still kind of weird that you let Jimbo go when you did, without having someone already
03:23 lined up.
03:24 And who knows?
03:25 With everything that's happened in the last 24 hours, maybe they did have somebody lined
03:28 up or they thought they did, and that fell through too.
03:31 So you never know.
03:32 But the guy's here, Mike Elko's here.
03:34 He's going to be the man leading the Aggies in College Station for—of course, there's
03:39 no contract news out yet, and I'm still trying to find out what the buyout for him at Duke
03:44 is that they'll have to pay in addition to the $77 million they're paying Jimbo to go
03:49 away.
03:50 But you know what?
03:51 It doesn't matter.
03:52 They've got the money, and they'll spend it wisely.
03:54 So Mike Elko is your man.
03:57 We'll have more on his contract, more on him coming back to College Station here in the
04:02 next few days as all of that becomes available and as we can dig more stuff up on Mike Elko
04:08 and the Aggies.
04:09 But he's your man.
04:10 Tell me what you think over on X.
04:12 I'm @IndyCarTim.
