With Christmas just a few weeks away, many people may already be dreaming of the food and drink they will be consuming over the festive period.

Christmas dinner is a perfect time to gather with the family and tuck into delicious roast potatoes, a vegetarian or meat-focused centrepiece, vegetables, and gravy - but one item remains a little controversial... the Yorkshire Pudding.

For some, the Yorkshire pudding is a staple of any roast dinner - a tradition. For others, the common British side dish does not appear alongside Christmas celebrations.

We spoke to people in Manchester to find out what they think.

00:00 "I would have Yorkshire pudding every night because I love roast dinners so I'd have roast
00:04 dinner every night."
00:05 With Christmas just a few weeks away, many people may already be dreaming of the food
00:10 and drink they will be consuming over the festive period.
00:14 Christmas dinner is a perfect time to gather with family and tuck into delicious roast
00:18 potatoes, a vegetarian or meat-focused centrepiece, vegetables and gravy.
00:24 But there's still one item that remains a little controversial - the Yorkshire pudding.
00:29 For some, the Yorkshire pudding is a staple of any roast dinner, a tradition.
00:33 For others, the common British side dish does not make an appearance alongside Christmas
00:38 celebrations.
00:39 We spoke to people in Manchester to find out their thoughts.
00:43 "Oh yeah, all day long.
00:47 Yorkshire pudding with anything.
00:48 Yeah, definitely with a Christmas dinner."
00:50 "What about you Gillian?"
00:51 "I'm a bit indifferent to it.
00:55 I can take it or leave it but if it's there, yeah, fine, yeah, I'm happy with it."
01:00 "Well I think it's because we don't necessarily always have turkey so if we have beef, we
01:07 might have both.
01:08 And if we have both, it's nice to have the Yorkshire pudding with the beef."
01:11 "Have the Yorkshire pudding as well, yeah.
01:13 And it adds more to your plate as well.
01:14 There's more to eat isn't there?"
01:16 "No, definitely not.
01:17 It just doesn't seem right.
01:18 Yorkshire pudding's for a Sunday roast but not Christmas dinner."
01:22 "Yes, but it's not my favourite.
01:25 Sprouts, roast potatoes, turkey, Yorkshire pudding.
01:32 It's not from Manchester is it?"
01:35 "I can see where they're coming from.
01:37 I'm just not crazy about Yorkshire pudding.
01:39 It's on my plate, I'll eat it.
01:41 I'll eat almost anything that's put on my plate and I'll eat Yorkshire puddings.
01:45 But they don't strike me as traditional Christmas, no."
01:48 "I always put a Yorkshire pudding with my Christmas dinner.
01:52 It's one of the things that is a tradition.
01:56 We don't tend to have the traditional turkey, we tend to have other meats.
02:01 So sometimes it will be roast pork, sometimes it will be roast beef, but those things go
02:07 well with Yorkshire pudding.
02:09 And you know, it's just a staple.
02:13 My mother came from Yorkshire and she made the very best Yorkshire puddings ever.
02:18 And so we never ever had a Christmas dinner without a Yorkshire pudding.
02:23 It was part of her family tradition.
02:25 So we've kept it going."
02:28 "I would love that, my favourite.
02:30 We were just talking about Christmas dinner and we've left that off the list."
02:33 "Yeah, we probably will do Yorkshire puddings."
02:35 "I was talking about exercising the pigs in blankets because they're also a favourite.
02:39 So just going for a whole sausage."
02:41 "Everybody likes those rather than the miniature ones."
02:44 "But we love Yorkshire puddings, yeah."
02:46 "Do you want a bit of that?"
02:48 "I always do.
02:49 It's not the same without a Yorkshire pudding.
02:51 The judges have always had a Yorkshire pudding.
02:56 I don't have a Yorkshire pudding with Christmas dinner, much as I like them.
03:00 And it's not because they're not traditional, it's because I think they fill you up too
03:03 much."
