00:00 Hello Rossoneri, this is AC Milan Talk.
00:20 Finally we are back, we are ready for a new episode talking about our favorite team with
00:26 all the goings on, both on and off the pitch.
00:29 Here with me today there's Sheridan Berger, welcome Sheridan.
00:32 Hi Licia, I hope you're feeling refreshed after our break.
00:35 Yeah, yeah.
00:36 Good?
00:37 How are you?
00:38 I'm feeling ready to go, I'm looking forward to today's episode, so much to talk about.
00:41 What about your week without Serie A, we've missed a lot our Rossoneri.
00:45 I missed you and Adriano, obviously, but I did other things and I relaxed, I recharged
00:51 the batteries and it's, as I say, it's great to be back and I'm excited about today's show.
00:57 So let's start with a lot of talking points today, let's start with our men's first team.
01:09 It was a tricky Saturday afternoon at the Via del Mare for our Rossoneri, they showed
01:17 great skills and their superiority in the match for the first half of the game, but
01:23 at the second half something went wrong, Sheridan, what happened?
01:28 Yes, it seems like a thousand years ago, doesn't it?
01:31 Because of the international break, but it wasn't the best way to go into the international
01:35 break, it was a difficult match, difficult conditions, but I think the team showed great
01:41 spirit because there was one point where it looked like it could be even worse for Mr.
01:47 Pioli's side, but the 2-2 draw, probably a fair result and to leave an intimidating place
01:53 like Lecce, to leave their stadium with a point isn't too bad, not what the team wanted,
01:59 but it wasn't, it was not a simple fixture, this is the opening goal and it was that man
02:05 again, Lisha, Monsieur Giroud, I hope you like my pronunciation there, and he scored,
02:11 he's been in really good form, obviously he would have, he would be a protagonist a bit
02:15 later on in the match unfortunately, but, or for unfortunate reasons, but that was good
02:21 and Adli enjoyed that, that's a great celebration there, and this is the second goal, and that
02:28 was a wonderful goal, wasn't it?
02:29 And that was Tijani Reinders there, driving through midfield, excuse me, driving through
02:35 midfield with a really good finish, no one challenging him, it was great for the Dutchman
02:40 to get on the score sheet, really good finish, and at that point it looked fairly positive,
02:45 didn't it Lisha?
02:46 They were able to level up, celebrations and that kind of thing, but then the match did
02:49 switch slightly, Lecce pretty quickly, or rather scored to put the pressure on Milan,
02:58 and then things became a little bit difficult for the Rossoneri, Mike Mignon tried to get
03:03 across but couldn't get there in time, and then this was the goal to make it 2-2, a really
03:09 good shot to be honest, again no chance really for Mike Mignon, and Milan had to settle for
03:15 the point, had to settle for the 2-2 draw, which as I say is not the optimal result,
03:21 it's not the result they would have wanted, but it's a point at a difficult ground, and
03:25 they can be very useful.
03:27 Today Adriano is not here.
03:30 I was wondering where he was, something felt a bit different, but yeah, normally there's
03:34 a very friendly man next to me, but he's not here today.
03:37 But he's always in AC Milan talk team, he's always thinking about us, and he recorded
03:44 for us a little clip, so let's take a listen to his comments about the last international
03:52 break, Adriano Del Monte.
03:54 It has been another big international break, another busy international break for me on
03:59 the road, so I'm in Germany today wrapping up Italy's qualification to the European Championships,
04:05 that's great news for the country, great news for the league as well, always good to have
04:08 the national team participating at the point, the end of these tournaments, so we're looking
04:13 forward to that, of course we're a number of our boys away on international duty, not
04:17 too many playing minutes which could be a good thing coming into obviously a very important
04:22 week ahead, but have to make quick notes to a record-breaking evening for France, it was
04:28 their biggest win in their history, 14-0, Olivier Giroud scored a double, Mike Magnan
04:32 had very, very little to do as you could imagine, but of course coming into this next week,
04:37 I've said it many times before, Leitch Sheridan, sorry I'm not there with you, but this is
04:42 another decisive week, there's no doubt about that, starting with Fiorentina, we know how
04:46 big the weekend is in Serie A, the top six all playing each other, Milan third, Fiorentina
04:51 sixth, Atalanta and Napoli fourth and fifth and of course the top two in Juventus and
04:55 Inter doing battle in Torino, but for our boys again coming into a match where they
05:00 have had good recent history in a fixture, but another match that simply an opponent
05:05 must be respected, but three points are the objective, no doubt about that, a Fiorentina
05:09 team particularly in attack, a number of players really firing and performing really
05:14 well, but there has been some positive news off the field, we have seen Christian Pulisic
05:19 is making a very good recovery from injury, so hopefully an earful strength team for Mr
05:25 Pioli to put their best foot forward against a Fiorentina team who are anticipating that
05:30 they will be playing in European football next season, they've been speaking very boldly
05:33 about their ambitions, so good luck to them on that front, but no luck this weekend because
05:37 it's an important three points on offer for AC Milan in the lead up to of course the Champions
05:42 League, now this is big, this is the match that, look a season defining match, you do
05:48 get the feeling about that, Mr Pioli spoke at the start of the Champions League group
05:52 stage saying that the home fixtures must be won and none more so than this one, obviously
05:57 so far so good with home fixtures in the Champions League this season, the 0-0 against Newcastle
06:02 in the opening matchday was a very solid performance, we remember what happened on matchday four
06:06 against Paris Saint-Germain but this time around no excuses, three points an absolute
06:11 must and why? Sheridan, the maths, I'm not there in the studio for you but let's break
06:15 it down because Borussia Dortmund 7 points, Paris Saint-Germain 6, Milan 5, Newcastle
06:20 4, quite simply if Milan can pick up all three points here, go ahead Borussia Dortmund in
06:25 the standings, it means going into the final matchday, destiny, fate, everything in our
06:30 own hands and that's certainly the objective here because we know Paris Saint-Germain,
06:34 they are expected to beat Newcastle so if those results go according to plan we are
06:39 in a very good position going into matchday six and it's going to add more pressure on
06:45 this match because the last matchday at home, a must win but off the back of matchday four
06:50 guys you really do get the feel that this team are fully confident they can do exactly
06:53 that, now against an opponent who always in good form Borussia Dortmund must be respected,
06:58 we know that, they were unbeaten in 17 Bundesliga fixtures before the international break however
07:03 their last two matches they were defeated by Stuttgart and Bayern Munich 4-0, I covered
07:07 that match very closely, defensively look if our attack can get on top I do feel there
07:12 are goals in this one and a big big chance to pick up a big three points but I'll leave
07:16 the analysis to you guys and I look forward to seeing you in the studio next week, ciao.
07:23 More success for the Rostroner on the final evening of the international break with the
07:28 World 2024 qualifiers in the spotlight.
07:32 Yeah it was very good, Adriano was very good wasn't he, I enjoyed that, I learned so much,
07:37 yeah it was the international break as Adriano said that not every Rostronero played lots
07:44 of minutes which can be a benefit and it basically means that they'll be coming back with a renewed
07:49 energy hopefully and ready to make things happen because as Adriano was saying it's
07:55 a huge period, it's a huge time, a huge few matches for the Rostroneri.
08:01 Well then now it's time to get back to Syria and we don't stop until March but on Saturday
08:06 night a new challenge, a new action for our Rostroneri at San Siro against Fiorentina,
08:13 what we should expect against Vincenzo Italiano's Viola Sheridan?
08:16 Well Fiorentina are a very interesting team, they were European finalists last year as
08:20 I'm sure you know and they're coming off a victory against their cross mountain neighbours
08:26 Bologna so they'll be on a high prior to that victory against Bologna, they'd struggled,
08:32 they lost three in a row but they are a very good team and I think it's going to be a tough
08:37 tactical challenge for Mr Pioli, this is a previous meeting, that's a goal from Super
08:44 Raffaleo but Vincenzo Italiano, their coach, their manager is a very, very interesting,
08:51 highly regarded coach in Italy so I think it's always going to be an exciting challenge
08:57 for Milan.
08:58 They've got one or two players to look out for, they've got Nico, the striker who can
09:04 be very dangerous and they've got an old friend let's say from Milan, they've got Jack Bonaventura
09:10 who we remember here very well, we remember him very fondly but he is a very gifted player
09:17 so it will be a challenge for Milan but it will be a great way to start a difficult week
09:24 would be getting a positive result against the Viola and you can see the scenes from
09:30 the last meeting, that's a slightly scrappy goal, it's not too sure who it comes off but
09:36 it goes into the back of the net and it doesn't matter how the victory comes, the important
09:39 thing is to get a win against the Viola.
09:42 Many important absences for our roster for Pirelli side with Raffaleo, Olivier Giroud
09:48 now also Noah Okafor and Christian Pulisic is ready to get back on the pitch at San Siro.
09:56 Yeah, it's the time of the season, mid-point through the season where winter really starts
10:00 to bite, where you do pick up injuries and obviously those players that you mentioned
10:04 who are unavailable are huge presences, Olivier Giroud is banned as well, he can't play so
10:12 Mr Pirelli will have to do some shuffling, will have to move his resources around but
10:17 the quality is there in the squad I think to get a positive result.
10:21 Plenty of fixtures to come on Wednesday night, another European night for UEFA Champions
10:27 League, Borussia Dortmund are coming at San Siro, what we should expect about this one
10:33 show then?
10:34 Well, we talk about it very regularly on this show that the home crowd, the Milan fans on
10:40 European nights are exceptional, they make such a difference.
10:44 Now Borussia Dortmund, you can see they are actually top of the group but it's very tight
10:49 this group F so it means a victory for the Rossoneri would change things substantially.
10:56 Dortmund for their part, they had a very good start to the season but in the last meeting
11:01 in the Bundesliga, their last fixture domestically they lost heavily to Bayern Munich so they'll
11:09 be a little bit wounded by that and they have got one or two injury doubts, their very good
11:16 goalkeeper Gregor Korbel got injured on international duty so he might be a doubt, we're not sure.
11:23 Emre Can who once played in Italy a few years ago with Juventus is a potential doubt as
11:29 well so they've got their own problems to contend with over selection and this is the
11:35 first meeting of Milan and Dortmund in Germany and that was a quite dramatic nil-nil but
11:42 Milan I think have to win basically, I don't want to put too much pressure on the Rossoneri
11:48 but they've got the quality and as I say the fans at San Siro make European nights very
11:54 intimidating even for very experienced teams like Borussia Dortmund and the fans can play
12:01 such a part, they always do and just hopefully Milan can find the net this time against the
12:07 team from Germany.
12:09 That's all for Puyol's Let's so let's move on to our women's team.
12:22 Well big news, we are obviously talking about our Rossoneri's new head coach Davide Corti
12:28 who will take charge of the team leaving his post as coach of women's Primavera.
12:36 Yeah it's a new start, let's say someone else in charge of the women and he's taken over,
12:43 he was previously with the Primavera so he knows the players, he knows the system very
12:48 well, he's expected to play a 4-3-3 although obviously that remains to be seen but naturally
12:55 we wish Mr. Corti all the luck and we hope he'll be very very successful in charge of
13:01 the Femminile.
13:02 A former football player and a professional I call as a coach but here also won the Viareggio
13:13 Women's Cup with the Primavera's team for women obviously last season.
13:20 Yeah he knows what he's doing as you say he was a player for Milan I think in the 1990-91
13:27 season but he didn't make many appearances but he's obviously found another talent in
13:31 coaching and we hope he can inspire the squad because it's a good squad, we say every week
13:36 that the squad has got some very gifted players so hopefully Mr. Corti is the right man to
13:42 just unlock the talent and help the women climb up the table because their position
13:47 in the table is not right if you consider the actual ability they've got.
13:53 Talking about their upcoming action, the one against Inter, how is our new head coach going
14:00 to prepare the match?
14:03 Well it's exciting for him because he's got a big match straight away, the derby as we
14:09 say here in Italy is always exciting whether it's the first team men or the women or the
14:15 Primavera.
14:16 Inter themselves are not doing perhaps as well as they would have hoped and they lost
14:22 their last match very heavily to Juventus and they've actually conceded quite a lot
14:27 of goals so I think it's a chance for the new look Milan Femminile to do something special.
14:35 Whatever happens it will be a really exciting match and one to savour because the derby
14:40 is always glorious.
14:41 So welcome to Mr. Corti and good luck to our Rossoneri for the next game against Inter.
14:48 Let's move on to our Under-19s.
14:57 A great win, an important result against Lecce Sheridan.
15:01 Yes, it was the wide players again who made the difference, Sia and Scottie who cropped
15:07 up with the goals and you can see there is confirmation, they're just playing really
15:13 well.
15:14 They did have a minor setback a few weeks ago against Empoli but other than that Mr.
15:20 Baertes's side are just playing very, very well and the evidence of that is in the table.
15:26 One point behind Inter and I think that's only because of the match against Empoli which
15:32 didn't quite go to plan but the team are playing really well and against Lecce they got back
15:37 to winning ways which was fantastic and it's again just like for the first team men's squad,
15:43 it's the beginning of a very important week.
15:45 This is the first goal against Lecce and it was a really clever finish by Diego Sia and
15:53 you can see how much they adore the boss, Mr. Baertes, really good group hug with Ignazio
16:01 and a very delicate finish there, Licia.
16:03 Not an easy goal, sign of a great player is they make difficult things look easy.
16:09 Just like you make presenting AC Milan look easy, we know it's not but you have the skill
16:13 to make it seem that way and that is the second goal by Filippo Scottie, another one of the
16:19 wide players just putting it into the far corner.
16:22 So a really positive result to set up this important part of the season.
16:28 But now ready to take on Cagliari and with the main objective as you say to return at
16:35 the top of the table and to stay there.
16:37 Yes that's got to be the mission and Cagliari, they've conceded quite a few goals Cagliari
16:43 so there's definitely a weakness in their defence.
16:45 So I think although Mr. Baertes and the team will have half an eye on the UEFA Youth League
16:51 which we'll come to shortly, they definitely I think would go into this match thinking
16:56 they have a chance, they have the quality to beat Cagliari.
17:00 So a positive result, there might be some rotation, Mr. Baertes might rest some of his
17:04 players but I think that the young Rossoneri have got enough to beat Cagliari.
17:11 Not only Primavera 1 because on Wednesday the match against Borussia Dortmund under
17:15 19.
17:16 It's coming back and we love it, we love it when it comes back.
17:18 The Champions League when it's in town, whether it's the Youth League or the full men's team
17:23 version, it's always exciting and with a win, Milan would guarantee progression to the knockout
17:30 round of the UEFA Youth League which is an incredible achievement.
17:34 You can see the young Rossoneri there, top of the table with 9 points and Dortmund if
17:39 they get the 12 points that would put them out of reach certainly.
17:43 Newcastle I think are out of the running but it would be really great to get a victory
17:48 against Borussia Dortmund.
17:50 They actually won, Milan won the corresponding match in Germany a little while ago.
17:55 So again, the European form that the team have displayed this season leaves me very,
18:00 very enthusiastic for a positive result against the yellow and blacks.
18:06 Our club has always kept an eye on the young talent and today we are going to focus on
18:12 the staff who are doing a great job behind the scenes to get big results on the pitch
18:19 with an interview with Vincenzo Vergine, our head youth sector.
18:24 Let's listen to his words together.
18:26 Vincenzo Vergine, it's a pleasure to welcome you to Milan with this first interview because
18:30 it's the first time we're talking about always interesting topics.
18:34 You are the new head of the youth sector and I'll start with the question that everyone
18:38 is waiting for at the moment when looking at the youth sector.
18:40 What is the objective of coming to Milan?
18:42 Let's start with a simple question.
18:45 The first consideration I make is that it is a great honour for me to have received
18:50 this invitation from one of the most important clubs in the world for one of the most ambitious
18:58 projects in the world.
19:00 The first big, real goal, I answer your question, of a great success is to train the resources
19:10 for the first team at home.
19:13 Training the resources for the first team in a big club means putting in place men,
19:21 women who work on this project with a unique vision that puts the player at the centre,
19:30 so that all the operators, we have different ones, know what the objective is and how to
19:37 help this player perform and improve and so the player becomes our mission.
19:46 So everyone, from the manager to the last of the collaborators, must be clear,
19:54 in an obvious way, that the final process of all our work is to try to get the most
20:02 out of their potential.
20:04 This is the real big goal.
20:07 Saying it is simple, doing it, I can assure you that it is a rather ambitious mission.
20:13 Milan has been doing well in the youth academy for years, winning a Scudetto Under-15
20:20 two seasons ago, then it made several other semifinals.
20:24 Is the result more important or is it more important in what a responsible youth academy does?
20:31 This is a very complex issue.
20:36 The real results of a great academy are the number of players you have brought to the
20:45 first team or the first teams, which have become economic and technical value.
20:53 This is the real big result of a great academy.
20:59 This was the most recent interview from Vincenzo Vergine, our Head of Youth Sector.
21:07 That's all for today, thanks to Sheridan Bird.
21:10 Thank you very much, Licia, great to be here.
21:12 See you next week.
21:13 Looking forward to it.
21:15 Dear Soneri, thanks for following us and see you in the next episode of our AC Milan Talk. Ciao!
