00:18 Hello Rastoni Radio, this is AC Milan Talk.
00:21 We are ready for a new weekly episode focusing on the going song
00:25 for our favourite team on and off the pitch.
00:28 Here with me today is Sheridan Burr.
00:30 As always, ciao Sheridan.
00:32 Ciao Licia, hi everybody at home.
00:34 Looking forward to today's show.
00:36 How has your week been from our last talk?
00:39 Very nice, very busy, lots of action.
00:42 The season is well and truly underway,
00:44 so lots to do, lots to talk about, but a very good week, thank you.
00:47 A massive week also for our Rastoneri, many important appointments.
00:52 So let's start from our men's first team.
00:55 [Music]
01:02 Sheridan, the Champions League is back for Stefano Fioli's side.
01:06 It's time for the beginning of this so important competition in Europe.
01:11 The first match against Newcastle, in which our Rastoneri created a lot,
01:16 especially in the first half, but the final result, as we can see, was nil-nil.
01:24 We also have to consider the other match, Paris Saint-Germain,
01:29 which won against Borussia Dortmund, and that now is at the top of the table.
01:36 Yeah, we're going to discuss the match, obviously, in detail a bit later on,
01:41 but it was not the result Milan wanted, but there were some positives.
01:45 The performance was very good.
01:47 Newcastle defended in a very dogged, a very determined style.
01:52 It was one-way traffic, it was red and black traffic,
01:55 but unfortunately Mr. Fioli's boys couldn't find the net.
01:59 But it's by no means a lost cause or a disaster.
02:02 There was plenty of good stuff, of positivity, that I think the Rastoneri can take from the match.
02:09 Only one point for our Rastoneri.
02:12 What a party, because they deserve to win. Don't you agree, Sheridan?
02:17 Absolutely. We're looking at the images now, and the pressure was entirely created by Milan in the first half.
02:26 Newcastle had very few attacks, but sometimes the ball doesn't want to go into the net leecher.
02:31 And also, we have to give credit to Nick Pope, the Newcastle United goalkeeper.
02:36 Whenever he was required to stop the ball, to make a save, he did.
02:40 He frustrated Theo Hernandez, Leao, Olivier Giroud.
02:44 Basically, Milan did everything right, except put the ball in the net.
02:48 This is wonderful footwork by Rafael, and then he just overcomplicates it a little bit, trips over the ball.
02:55 It wasn't the keeper that time, it was the defender who cleared it off the line.
02:58 I think it's a positive nil-nil, which some might say doesn't really exist.
03:04 The chances were there, just the final finishing, the final shots, the final attempts on goal, just weren't accurate enough.
03:12 But like I say, it's the beginning, it's a good point. A point against the Premier League side is always a good point.
03:19 And Newcastle, they defended like their lives depended on it, and it just wasn't to be.
03:24 But it's not the end of the world.
03:26 Our friend Adrian is missing today, Sheridan.
03:29 He's not here with us on the set, but he's with us in spirit, he's always in our hearts.
03:34 And I gather he's nearer than I think.
03:38 He was at San Siro Stadium on Tuesday night for the first match of this new Champions League against Newcastle.
03:43 He experienced the match on the pitchside, and he prepared for us some curiosities, some facts on the post-match.
03:51 Let's relive Tuesday night against Newcastle with Adriano Del Monte.
03:55 Champions League football was back here at San Siro, and here are my three takeaways from Milan's draw against Newcastle.
04:04 Number one, it was very, very important that we responded after the defeat in the derby.
04:10 It was going to be tough, but to the players' credit, they came out fine, they were attacking, they were hungry,
04:15 they fed off the energy all but to the crowd.
04:17 And well, 14 shots before Newcastle had had a single shot, it was very impressive.
04:22 The display in the cauldrons, strongly stepped it up for all these men.
04:26 Number two, a clean sheet.
04:29 Clean sheets in Europe can be very, very hard to come by, and especially after quite a bit of a derby only three days.
04:35 But it was very important that defensively, the team were sound and very strong.
04:39 And that they were indeed Newcastle, with very few chances on the night, perhaps just one shot on target.
04:46 But what that would end, so not too much for both goalkeepers to do.
04:50 A sound display, why be back for more and pledging more of that to come as the Champions League continues.
04:57 And number three, and probably most importantly, because on Champions League nights,
05:01 there is nothing better than the atmosphere here, pitch side, inside.
05:04 It is a magnificent stadium, the fans played their part, as always, the choreography was tremendous pre-game.
05:11 And this, above their sound and energy and noise, they brought, it's truly magical.
05:16 It's what we love about Champions League nights.
05:18 And of course, as Spiritual mentioned as well, for the returning Sambro Tornali,
05:22 many chants from the Newcastle fans were reinforced from the Milan fans.
05:26 So much love for Tornali returning after a short time.
05:29 So, those are my three takeaways from the Milan-Newcastle clash.
05:33 Guys, I'll see you in the studio next week.
05:35 Adriano's comments are very interesting, Sherry.
05:39 He's very good, isn't he, Adriano? He's very, very good.
05:42 Yeah, I agree with everything you said.
05:44 The clean sheet is something that is worth its weight in gold in Europe.
05:48 So, get the clean sheet was brilliant.
05:50 Sambro Tornali, it was nice to see him back and both of the sets of fans gave him a very warm reception.
05:57 And the reaction was good after the unfortunate result at a weekend in the league.
06:02 The team responded very well.
06:05 And also, as Adriano said, the support from the fans at San Siro, Fort Milan, is an incredible boost.
06:13 It's unlike anything else.
06:14 There is the man himself, Sandrino Tornali.
06:17 He looked a bit emotional, didn't he? It must have been a bit strange for him.
06:20 But it was a very professional performance.
06:23 And I think once the match started, he was no longer thinking about his old friends, his old teammates.
06:29 He was just thinking about playing for his team and those fans, which is correct, which is how it should be.
06:34 But it was a very good response to the loss at the weekend by the team.
06:42 And it was just, as I say, a disappointing result.
06:46 But the performance, the atmosphere was top level.
06:49 I would like to focus especially on the last one, on the atmosphere created by San Siro for Sandro Tornali.
06:57 Oncoming, this magical atmosphere.
07:00 And he decided, a little curiosity also, to not participate in the pitch expression,
07:06 maybe to leave this magic atmosphere only once during the warm-up.
07:12 Don't you agree, Sheridan?
07:13 It's possible, absolutely.
07:15 I mean, they are professional players and they're very well paid, but they're humans and they have emotions.
07:20 And it must have been a bit strange of him.
07:22 I think it was strange for Milan fans to see him in another shirt with black and white stripes, not black and red stripes.
07:29 So it would have been an unusual combination of feelings for him.
07:32 So he handled it the best way he felt he could.
07:35 And he would have been very happy with the positive reception he got from the Milan fans.
07:40 So it was a nice kind of side show or a nice detail to what was a really good evening.
07:47 An exclusive clip of AC Milan fans in the moments that dedicated to Sandro Tornali, a former AC Milan player.
07:56 Let's see it together.
07:58 (Milan fans cheering)
08:24 For Sandro Tornali, memories, unforgettable memories at the club.
08:28 Yeah, and you could see on his face there, I think, a bit of emotion.
08:31 He was trying to focus with his new teammates and get ready for the match.
08:35 But there was some emotion there.
08:37 And it's nice to see that he still has a huge place in the heart of Milan fans.
08:43 And Milan has a huge place in his heart.
08:46 So that was nice to see the rare emotion from players.
08:50 Because normally once they get on the turf, on the grass, it's all down to business.
08:54 But that was very pleasant to see.
08:56 Sandro Tornali met again his former AC Milan fans, but also his Rossoneri teammates, also Olivier Giroud.
09:07 So let's listen to his interview about the new castle player.
09:14 I'm very happy to see him. I had the chance to see him at the Milanello with the national team.
09:27 I'm very happy for him because he received a great welcome tonight.
09:39 And it's because Milan is a great club for me.
09:44 Because they don't forget their players who have done so much for the club.
09:52 So it was a nice evening for him.
09:56 We wanted to win this game, but I'm very happy for Sandro.
10:07 What do you think about this?
10:09 It was nice to see how Olivier Giroud holds Sandro Tornali in high esteem.
10:16 They had some good times together in the red and black shirt.
10:19 And it was very friendly in the midst of a very competitive important Champions League match.
10:25 It's good to see that friendship and loyalty still exist in football.
10:29 Also familiar and iconic faces attended us at San Siro Stadium last night.
10:35 Like Jerry Cardinale and Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
10:37 Exactly. Zlatan Ibrahimovic. The fans love to see the big Swedish superstar.
10:42 And he gives real star quality to the fans watching.
10:48 And the owner, Mr. Cardinale, has been to five matches out of five so far this season.
10:53 Showing his support for the team. He's got big plans for the team.
10:57 It's good to have some of those faces in the crowd watching.
11:02 It makes a special night even more special. Extra special.
11:05 Our friend Adriano talked about the match, the tactics, the final result and the clean sheet.
11:13 As I said before, keeping a clean sheet is very important.
11:17 Milan played on the front foot and they tried to attack. They didn't sit back.
11:21 Milan went for it. The statistics, you just look at that.
11:24 Shots from Milan. 25-9 on target.
11:28 Newcastle, six shots. One on target. Which was right at the end from Longstaff.
11:35 That was stopped by Marcos Portiello.
11:37 That tells the story of a very one-sided 0-0.
11:41 That was a very unusual, goalless match.
11:44 And the goals will come for Milan.
11:46 But you just look at those statistics and you think how did it finish a point each.
11:51 But it happens in football sometimes.
11:54 Very interesting these statistics. But during the 90 minutes, also many unexpected episodes like the injuries
12:01 picked up by Mike Mignano, Rubelov, Suschik, which luckily are not so serious.
12:08 Yeah, of course. That's the danger of playing.
12:10 Or not the danger, it's a risk that happens when you play matches, high intensity matches every few days.
12:16 It's the start of the season, so perhaps some of the players are, their bodies are getting used to the action again
12:22 because it's only September, so the bodies may be grumbling a little bit.
12:27 But we hope that they're not serious injuries.
12:30 And it has to be said, when Marcos Portiello came on to replace Mike Mignano, he was fantastic.
12:36 Everything that was asked of him, which wasn't much, he did very, very well.
12:41 I remember when Marcos Portiello joined and he gave his press conference as a new Milan player.
12:46 And he really came across as a good leader, a responsible, serious professional, and a great person to have in the dressing room,
12:54 to have in the training ground. And he's a really great person to have as reserve goalkeeper.
12:59 If something happens to Mike Mignano, and that was the case, and he came on and he was perfect.
13:06 I was curious on Ruben Lovsuschik's Instagram account because he said, "I feel OK, just a cramp."
13:15 There you go. He's OK. And cramp is something that you get.
13:19 It's just a sign of fatigue or if you haven't hydrated properly.
13:23 And it's just a case of it's early in the season. This is the first midweek game of the season.
13:27 So all the players, they haven't had the summer off because they had a summer tour,
13:31 but it's not been the same intensity of football.
13:33 So as I say, the leg muscles are just getting used to it.
13:36 So just cramp. He's OK. He feels good. Milan fans feel a bit more relaxed about the situation.
13:42 After the 19 minutes on the pitch, Stefano Pioli talked about his last performance.
13:48 Here's an interview, his post-match reaction.
13:52 We won the games when we played better than our opponents.
13:55 We lost when we played worse. Today we had to win because we played better.
13:59 But you can see that we lacked a bit of quality in the final conclusion.
14:05 We lacked a bit of badness.
14:12 But we have to keep going. The next round will be particularly difficult.
14:19 But we know what we're capable of.
14:23 We know how to deal with strong opponents like Borussia Dortmund and PSG.
14:28 And we'll try to improve our performance even more.
14:33 After the Champions League, we're back for Serie A.
14:38 Our roster is having to bounce back from last Saturday's result.
14:44 Domestically, it's a chance to get back into action and to get three points on the board.
14:51 It's never easy against El Asverano.
14:54 But it will be a match that is a chance to archive the weekend's events.
15:00 The graphic is there. We can't hide it. We can't deny it.
15:04 It was not what Milan wanted. Not what anyone connected with Milan wanted to happen in the derby.
15:09 But occasionally it happens. Nothing really went right for Milan.
15:14 Inter, on this occasion, highly dominant.
15:19 But the beautiful thing about football, Licia, is there's always a tomorrow.
15:23 And there's always another match.
15:25 It's a chance for Milan to move forward, archive the loss in the derby de la Madonnina.
15:30 And just keep moving forward and concentrate on what's ahead, not what's behind you.
15:36 They need to put in a good game and to take home good results.
15:43 Even if we're only at the beginning of the season, starting well is so important.
15:49 And the last time we faced El Asverano was also our closest match in the last season.
15:59 And the match in which Zlatan Ibrahimovic said goodbye to football and to AC Milan.
16:07 It was an emotional evening. I remember it very clearly.
16:12 And it was a special moment, but also a sad moment.
16:16 Zlatan Ibrahimovic doesn't normally show his emotions, but even Zlatan, the big man.
16:22 Was there a tear in his eye, Licia? Do you think there was a tear in Zlatan's eye?
16:27 He's a man who hides his emotions, but even he felt...
16:32 Look at that. There's definitely a tear in his eyes. Poor little fella.
16:36 It was a big moment, saying goodbye to a man who has done so much for this club,
16:42 on and off the pitch, raising the profile off the pitch.
16:47 And it was an emotional time.
16:50 But Zlatan still comes to the stadium, as we just saw during the Champions League match.
16:55 He will always be a part of AC Milan history.
16:59 But it was there someone who didn't want to be spotted.
17:04 The emotion was very high that night. The emotion was certainly up to 10.
17:09 A magic night, a magic moment for the iconic face of AC Milan history.
17:16 Sheridan, let's change the chapter, because in the match against Las Veronas,
17:23 our rossoneri will wear a particular jersey, a beautiful jersey.
17:29 They have, and don't just take Licia's word for it. I have the evidence here, if you bear with me.
17:35 Here is the new Milan... Let me just rotate it that way.
17:43 There you go. Now, hopefully you can see that.
17:46 That is the new Milan third kit, of course, by Puma.
17:51 And, Licia, you will notice that it's not one distinct colour.
17:57 It's very, very, very colourful.
18:00 If I just rotate it skillfully, hopefully you can see at the back.
18:06 Look at that. It really is a wonderful, revolutionary colour scheme for Milan.
18:14 And the third kits often are. And I am a big fan of it.
18:18 I think the home kits are fairly classic, have to be red and black stripes.
18:22 White kits are often white or a derivation of white.
18:25 And the third kit, there's a bit more room to be creative, a bit more room.
18:29 The badge there is in white, which is fantastic.
18:32 And there's a bit more chance to be creative with the third kit.
18:36 And the colours basically represent the diversity, the multicultural aspect.
18:43 The fact that in the city of Milan, everyone's free to be who they are.
18:48 Everyone is free to do what they like, in the sense that there's no prejudice.
18:53 People are accepted for whatever they are.
18:56 Diversity is a very big part of the city of Milan.
18:59 And this shirt pays tribute to that. Do you like it, Licia?
19:04 I like it so much. Social meaning, but also it's so pink.
19:12 It's one of my favourite colours.
19:17 Well, maybe after the show, ask if you can keep this or don't ask, just take it with you.
19:22 I'm joking, of course, but it's a wonderful shirt. Revolutionary, friendly, inclusive.
19:28 And from us here at AC Milan Talk, it's a big hit, isn't it?
19:32 The first match with this third kit for our Rossoneri by Sheridan.
19:37 What should we expect from Marco Baroni's side?
19:41 What do you think about their more recent performances?
19:45 I think they're always a difficult team to play against.
19:48 It won't be easy. There are no easy games in Serie A.
19:52 Milan's finishing will have to be a lot sharper.
19:56 That's what Mr Piaoli said after the Newcastle match.
19:59 They lacked a bit of ruthlessness, cateveria, a bit of sharpness in the finishing.
20:06 So there will be chances against La Sperona.
20:09 And La Sperona will probably defend deep and try and stop Milan having too much of the attacking momentum.
20:17 But I think it's a good chance for Milan to get back to three points
20:21 after their brilliant form in Serie A so far this season.
20:26 Ready for the match against La Sperona and ready also for the next one.
20:31 In the middle of the week, the next week, with a fly that will take us to, let me say,
20:40 to one of the gems of Italy, Sardinia. A fly to Cagliari.
20:46 Very nice. I have to be honest, I've never been to Sardinia.
20:50 No one's invited me. But yeah, it's always wonderful to go to the islands to play football there.
20:56 They're very passionate and Cagliari are another team that won't give anything away.
21:00 You have to work for everything you can get against Cagliari.
21:04 So these are tough matches. They might not be as glamorous as the other matches against Newcastle, Inter,
21:10 but they're important matches. All the matches are important.
21:13 A new return for Cagliari in Serie A and it will be a very interesting match, Sheridan.
21:20 Let's change chapter because we are going to talk about our women.
21:25 A new season started also for our women against the reigning champion, Giallorossi.
21:40 Ward, would you like to say about the last match, Sheridan, considering also our Rostov-on-Don performance?
21:47 Yeah, it was a tough opening match. Playing Roma first match was a tough one.
21:53 But they did very well. They did very well, Mr Gans' side.
21:58 The 4-2 defeat looks quite heavy, quite pesante when you see it written down.
22:03 But the players actually did really well and came back from 2-0 down.
22:10 I'm sure we'll see the highlights very soon.
22:12 But it was a good performance. But Roma, just when they needed to, they found another level.
22:17 They found another gear, the team from the capital.
22:20 This is Roma taking the lead in the first half and not great marking by Milan.
22:27 Not long after it was 2-0 with a really good goal. It has to be said, a really good drive from distance beyond Laura Giuliani.
22:35 But Milan didn't surrender.
22:37 That was a really good goal from Chantere Dompik to make it 2-1 and showed that Roma do have weaknesses.
22:44 And then came the equaliser and it was a bit of a bundle, a bit of a scrap.
22:49 But eventually it went in the net and that's the only bit we care about.
22:53 And that was Marinelli, I believe, scoring her first goal for the Rossoneri.
22:58 But then Roma kind of woke up again and they got angry.
23:01 They made it 3-2 with a really good shot from distance.
23:04 And by then it was lights out for Milan because Roma made it 4-2.
23:10 However, scoring twice against Roma, coming back from two goals down against Roma is not simple.
23:17 Not everyone can do it.
23:18 So there were positives that Mr Gans can take from the performance, particularly the scorers Dompik and Marinelli.
23:25 It was important for them to get there, to get goals, the first goals of the season for the Rossoneri.
23:30 So it was a defeat. It was four goals conceded, but it was a good performance and plenty to build on for Mr Gans.
23:38 Not the best beginning for our women, but they need to bounce back from the last match
23:46 because there is a demanding fixed release.
23:51 The next match will be against Napoli and then against Juventus.
23:55 Exactly. But the good thing is that the hardest game of this half of the season against Roma is out of the way.
24:02 And they showed enough in that performance against the Gialorossi to convince us that they can do well against Napoli,
24:11 Femminile and against Juventus.
24:13 So I'm really looking forward to those matches.
24:15 As I say, the loss against Roma was difficult to take, but they showed enough quality and also mental strength
24:24 to give us an indication that they can do very well this season.
24:27 So I'm feeling optimistic about those upcoming matches.
24:30 That's all for our women. Let's move on with our under-19s.
24:42 Sheridan, what a team in Primavera 1 and what a great beginning also in the Youth League. A great result.
24:49 The team are flying this season. It's so good to see Lecce. They were brilliant in the league.
24:54 No fuss in the league. Very tidy. This is the UEFA Youth League, rather, played before the men's team.
25:01 And this was the first goal from Ciakka Traore. It was a really good team move after 16 minutes.
25:08 It started from a really good run down the wing by, I believe, it was Filippo Scotti, the flying winger.
25:16 And the Newcastle defence didn't really keep an eye on Ciakka Traore. He made it 1-0.
25:21 Once again, Scotti involved Lecce. Look at this wing play. Very impressive.
25:26 And a bit of a mix-up in the area and the referee said penalty.
25:31 So it was a chance for the young Rossoneri to make it 2-0.
25:36 Camarda there being bundled over. He picked himself up and he took the penalty.
25:40 And that's a really good penalty. Right in the corner, 2-0 to Milan after 20 minutes.
25:46 And Newcastle were already thinking this is going to be a long afternoon.
25:51 And it was for them. It didn't get any better. This is another really good attack by Rossoneri.
25:58 Played to Camarda and that's a really good finish. Fired into the net. 3-0 after 23 minutes.
26:04 And the match was basically over. Newcastle, to their credit, they did try.
26:09 They played with pride and they tried to get back in.
26:13 This is another chance to see this really fine goal from Mr Abate's side.
26:18 Great movement from the number 9, Camarda. And then he just smashed it into the top corner.
26:23 Goalkeeper had no chance. And from then on, Newcastle.
26:28 Newcastle, they played with honour and played with pride. But they were blown away by the brilliant Primavera.
26:34 A perfect game against Newcastle with a particular player that stood out.
26:38 He's only 15 and you have already said his name, Camarda.
26:42 Brilliant. Really good performance. So young. Even at that level, he was a young man or a young guy among slightly older, more experienced players.
26:52 And he was very calm and very relaxed. And two goals, a brilliant penalty.
26:57 He was really, really impressive. And the future looks very bright for Camarda.
27:01 As we already said, a great beginning also in Primavera.
27:06 Three wins for three matches. And also in the last one match against Sassuolo.
27:12 Yeah, a way performance. It's always impressive. It's always good to get a victory away from home.
27:17 And they beat Sassuolo 2-0. Clean sheet. No fuss. No stress, let's say.
27:22 And look at that, Leitch, who's top of the league? AC Milan. It's a really, really good indication of the work that Mr Abate, Ignazio Abate, has been doing with the Primavera.
27:34 And we've discussed it many times that last season, the youth team, the start was not great.
27:39 There were lots of performances that weren't quite up to scratch. But this season they are flying.
27:45 This is the match against Sassuolo at the Ricci Stadium. Milan in white, in case you're wondering.
27:52 And that was Victor Eleto with a really good shot from distance.
27:57 There he is. And it was just no chance for the Sassuolo keeper.
28:03 And he hugs Mr Abate. Look at that. Everyone's happy. It's such a joyful start to the season.
28:09 Look at that. Right in the bottom corner. Made it 1-0 to the young Rossoneri.
28:14 And this is the second goal. I think this was a bit of a mix-up. This wasn't a beautiful goal, let's say, Leitch.
28:20 This was an ugly goal. But they value the same. They're worth the same. It doesn't really matter.
28:25 They all count. And this made it 2-0. It's another chance to see the keeper not perhaps getting much of a clearance.
28:31 And there was a bit of a bundle. But the important thing is that the ball ended up in the back of the net.
28:35 2-0. Game over. And the Primavera, another clean sheet against Newcastle United.
28:40 The Primavera are doing so, so well. And I say it every week, but if you get a chance to watch the Primavera, you should.
28:47 Because this group are really exciting. And they have a very bright future, I believe.
28:53 So now they have the objective of keeping this winning streak going.
28:57 Also, in the next big match against Juventus. A big match in every sense.
29:02 Always important. Always worth watching when Milan take on Juventus back at the Puma House of Football.
29:10 So it's a home match for the Primavera. And let's hope they continue the brilliant form.
29:15 And just continue the champagne football, the sparkling football they've been playing so far.
29:20 That's all for today. Thanks to Sheridan Bird.
29:24 Thank you very much. Thank you everyone at home for watching.
29:27 Thank you, dear Rossoneri. And see you in the next episode of our AC Milan Talk.
