Arkansas Razorbacks cornerback Hudson Clark and defensive lineman Cam Ball previewing Friday's season-ending game with Missouri at Razorback Stadium.
Transcript
00:00 Yeah, Cam, you've started, I think,
00:01 five of the last six games you played in.
00:03 You missed one game, I think, out of the last six --
00:05 or the last seven or so.
00:07 What has it been about your game
00:09 that you've just kind of emerged as maybe a consistent starter,
00:12 especially these, I guess, last three in a row?
00:16 To be honest, I really don't know.
00:18 I guess it's just something that the coach is seeing me.
00:21 I just take every play or every snap I'm given,
00:24 whether I'm running out with the ones,
00:25 twos, threes, it doesn't matter.
00:26 I just take it like it's my last and just play hard.
00:29 So I really don't know.
00:31 For both of you guys, obviously Missouri's been a thorn
00:34 in the side of Arkansas.
00:35 Arkansas, you guys have a better record than them,
00:38 and they'll still figure out a way.
00:40 What does this mean to you guys from just the past,
00:43 since you guys have been here, and just playing Missouri
00:46 in a trophy game?
00:49 Yeah, it's a big deal,
00:51 not only for this team, for the state.
00:54 It's a rivalry game.
00:56 I think they hate us, we hate them.
00:58 So it's a big deal.
01:02 And just to piggyback off of Hood,
01:04 yeah, like you said, it's a big deal, big rivalry game.
01:07 I know last year we still have a nasty taste in our mouth
01:10 from the loss that they gave us.
01:14 I think last year Coach Pitt told us
01:16 that they was in a locker room smoking cigars,
01:18 and they clinched their sixth win to go to a bowl game.
01:22 So, you know, it's time we do a little payback,
01:26 as one would say.
01:28 Hudson, you're a fifth-year senior.
01:30 Have you given any thought to your future?
01:32 I know you're walking on Saturday,
01:33 or excuse me, Friday, but have you given any thought
01:35 to if you'll be back next year?
01:38 No, not really. I was going to say that,
01:40 thinking for after the season, just focus on Missouri.
01:44 Thanks, fellas.
01:46 Otis?
01:47 Yeah, Nate wanted me to ask both you guys,
01:50 what would a win over Missouri mean for the team
01:53 during the offseason, for next year's team
01:56 during the offseason upcoming, a win over Missouri?
02:00 I mean, it'll most definitely be a confidence booster for sure.
02:04 Like, this, as one would say, this is our Super Bowl,
02:07 so we plan to leave it all out on the field.
02:09 You know, we've been practicing like it every week --
02:12 I mean, every day, I'm sorry.
02:13 And going into the spring,
02:15 it'll just be a big confidence booster,
02:18 give us momentum going into the next season.
02:21 Yeah, and not only going into the spring,
02:23 I think sending whoever's leaving off right,
02:26 I think that's a big deal for this team.
02:28 Yeah.
02:30 Well, the season hasn't gone like you guys
02:33 or anybody wanted, I guess,
02:34 but the defense has actually played pretty well
02:36 with except for maybe one or two games.
02:38 Just talk about the improvement on the defense
02:40 this year as a whole.
02:41 You guys have played some good teams
02:43 and played them pretty close and played pretty good defense.
02:46 Talk about that.
02:47 Yeah, I think it's just -- it's a brotherhood.
02:49 And so we come out, we're flying around the ball together,
02:53 we're having fun out there,
02:54 and I think that's the biggest difference.
02:57 Yeah, like Hud said,
02:58 we mainly just focus on each other.
03:00 You know, we can't really control
03:02 what goes on on the offensive side or special teams.
03:05 You know, we just fly on playing,
03:06 Coach T. Wheel will always tell us to do.
03:09 Oh, him, how good was it to have the same D-line coach
03:13 back for a second year?
03:14 I mean, that's something you haven't had till this year, man.
03:17 It was lovely, you know.
03:18 Coach Adams is my guy, man.
03:20 We have a great bond, a nice bond.
03:22 I really love having him, you know, helping me mature
03:25 and coaching me up as a player and as a young man.
03:30 I thank both you guys.
03:31 C, Friday, good luck to you.
03:33 Thank you.
03:34 Go ahead, John.
03:36 Yeah, I want to ask y'all what the reaction was
03:38 when Hunter Juracek announced
03:40 that Sam was going to be coming back for next year, Hud.
03:43 Yeah, I mean, the locker room was obviously excited.
03:46 We were chanting out, having fun in there.
03:49 And so I think we're all excited that he's coming back,
03:52 and I think it's good for this program.
03:55 Cam, what did you think?
03:57 I loved it, you know.
03:58 If it wasn't for Coach Pittman, I wouldn't be here.
04:01 So him coming back was just, you know,
04:04 it just brightened my day after that win.
04:07 Was the chant something that could be published
04:09 in a newspaper?
04:11 Yeah, it could.
04:15 What were y'all chanting?
04:17 I mean, we were just, like, having fun.
04:19 And I can't really remember, but we were just yelling.
04:22 Okay. Well, Missouri's got a 3,000-yard passer,
04:26 a 1,000-yard rusher, and a 1,000-yard receiver.
04:29 What's it going to be like taking these guys on?
04:33 Oh, it's going to be, you know,
04:34 just a back-and-forth game for sure.
04:37 Like you said, they have a good runner,
04:39 so we put a strong emphasis on stopping the run
04:42 and also stopping the pass.
04:43 You know, Brady Cook is a good quarterback.
04:46 He is mobile, so we have to take that
04:47 into consideration as well, too.
04:50 Yeah.
04:51 Yeah, the quarterback does it all.
04:53 He runs, he passes.
04:55 They got to expose his offense,
04:56 and they played some really good games.
04:58 So I think we got to just prepare even more.
05:01 What do you think about Burden?
05:03 You might get matched up on him a little bit.
05:05 Yeah, he's a good receiver.
05:07 He does it all for them.
05:09 He lines up in the backfield,
05:10 lines up at one receiver, two receivers.
05:12 So he does it all.
05:14 Hey, y'all, Cody Schrader is like 5'9",
05:16 but I think he's rushed for 1,200 yards.
05:19 What is it about him and his game, Cam, that you see?
05:24 He's a very physical runner.
05:26 I want to say he's probably one of the most physical runners
05:29 that we've seen thus far.
05:30 He runs behind his pads most definitely,
05:32 and him being not kind of small as he is,
05:37 he can hide behind his offensive linemen.
05:41 And like I said, he runs very hard,
05:43 and it takes a lot for him to go down,
05:46 and you can clearly see that on film.
05:48 Yeah, Hud, what do you say of him?
05:50 Yeah, he's obviously elevated his game from last year.
05:54 He runs behind his pads,
05:55 and he usually gets out of the first tackle,
05:59 and so we just got to fill our gaps
06:01 and then be sound on defense.
06:04 My last one, Cam, I don't know how close --
06:06 how close did you get to recovering that fumble
06:08 that you forced against Mississippi State?
06:10 Because it looked like your back was on it or something.
06:13 I mean, it had to be really close
06:15 because we couldn't see what was happening.
06:17 I had it.
06:18 I'll tell you, if you go back and watch it in slow motion,
06:21 I had the ball, and then it was just a whole bunch
06:23 of scuffling under the pad.
06:24 I was holding on to the ball for my dear life,
06:26 and the referee just wanted to give it to Mississippi State,
06:30 but I promise you I had the ball.
06:31 Even though I was on my back, it was up under me.
06:34 I had it. I had it.
06:35 Thanks, man.
06:37 How's it at, Daniel?
06:40 I don't know.
06:41 The latest rankings just came out, and Bazoo's ninth.
06:44 Have you all talked about at all playing spoiler amongst the team
06:48 and, you know, they're fighting for New Year's,
06:49 Six Bulls, things of that nature,
06:51 whoever wants to take it?
06:53 Not really.
06:55 We know that they're pretty high-ranked,
06:57 you know, just based off of, you know,
06:59 everyone else in college football,
07:00 but we really just take it as another opponent,
07:03 and we plan for it just like any other opponent,
07:06 so that's what we're going to go out and play.
07:11 And then, Hudson, Coach Pittman mentioned,
07:14 I think, last week, you know, he's been kind of messing
07:16 with you in practice,
07:17 trying to talk to you about coming back.
07:19 Just kind of what have the interactions been like with him
07:22 and the rest of the coaching staff?
07:23 I know you said you haven't given much thought,
07:25 but just kind of knowing that you have a decision
07:27 to make coming up.
07:29 Yeah, he's been joking around,
07:30 trying to offer me Gatorade and water,
07:32 and he had a cool jacket on the other day,
07:34 And he said, "You can get me one if I come back,"
07:37 and just joking around.
