Superstar Shakira Resolves Spanish Tax Fraud Allegations with €7.5 Million Settlement

Colombian pop star Shakira has reached a deal with Spanish prosecutors to settle a tax fraud case against her. Shakira paid a €7.5 million ($8.9 million) fine to settle the case, just before her trial was set to begin. The tax fraud allegations were for €14.5 million in unpaid taxes in Spain between 2012-2014. Prosecutors claimed Shakira was living in Spain during this time but listing her residence elsewhere to avoid Spanish taxes. Her relationship and children with Spanish soccer player Gerard Pique were part of what prosecutors claimed tied her to Spain during the disputed tax years. Shakira declared Spain as her tax residence in 2015.
