00:00 Hello and welcome along to Invicta Sport, the only show on your TV dedicated to wrapping
00:25 up all of Kent's sporting action.
00:27 I'm Bartholomew Hall, and here's what to expect on this Monday 17th November.
00:33 Dover's eight goal thriller Penalty Drama steals the FA Vars spotlight
00:40 First team to do it, we chat with Dartford's UK Pro Tennis League winner
00:44 Vanessa's desert return, girl on the bike, gears up for cross-continental rally
00:54 But before we get to all of that, let's first take a look at the weekend's headlines.
00:57 We start this evening with rugby, where Kent's National League Two East teams had quite the
01:02 success this weekend.
01:03 Tunbridge Juddians got their top four hopes back on track with a 19-12 win over Wimbledon,
01:09 they're now sitting 7th in the league.
01:12 Canterbury beat Guernsey 34-10, making it three in a row for the sixth-placed team.
01:18 And Sevenoaks outlasted Worthing 15-10, keeping them 10th in the league and taking their fourth
01:24 win from 10 games this season.
01:28 Next and Ditton's Barry Hawkins was unable to claw back a deficit against Judd Trump
01:32 as he bowed out of this year's Champions of Champions.
01:38 Friday night almost saw the Kent man exit the competition with a 6-0 thrashing after
01:43 losing all four opening frames of the session on Friday night.
01:47 However, the Kewman worked hard to reel off three frames in a row and had his chances
01:51 in the ninth before Trump finally got over the line.
01:55 Looking back on the Champions of Champions run, Hawkins said he felt he was completely
01:59 shut out and struggling to get opportunities.
02:03 Moving on to football, an Ed Tunbridge Wells Forresters FC player has been hospitalised
02:07 following a serious violent incident at the end of a match.
02:11 A statement issued by the club says the incident happened after the game on Saturday with players
02:16 being hospitalised, well with a player being hospitalised.
02:20 He read, "The club is sickened by the events and condemn all levels of violence.
02:24 It's understood that the incident involved reserve players."
02:28 Kent Police says the force was called just before 4pm on Saturday and confirmed two men
02:33 were injured with one being taken to hospital for treatment as they continue to investigate.
02:38 The player has now been discharged.
02:42 Sticking with football and it was FA VAR's second round action for Kent's national
02:46 south sides this weekend, here's how it all went down at Crabble as Dover hosted
02:51 Weymouth.
02:52 In this week's Kent Football Roundup, we have an action-packed game of eight goals.
02:57 In the second round of the Isuzu FA Trophy, Dover Athletic hosted Weymouth FC.
03:02 The home side were the first to score, their winger shot with power and precision, looping
03:07 the ball over the keeper into the far side of the goal.
03:12 Dover then scored again following some scrappy defensive errors, a low shot fizzed past the
03:16 keeper, nestling itself into the bottom right corner.
03:20 Next it was Weymouth's turn to score.
03:22 Coming in from the corner, the ball found its way to Weymouth striker, Tore, who quickly
03:26 hoisted the ball into the nets.
03:28 It wasn't long before Weymouth found an equaliser.
03:32 Some perfectly timed play and pass found Tore again as his header squeezed past the keeper
03:37 into the bottom corner for a brace.
03:39 2-2 at half time.
03:41 After the break, a long, scooping, cross-field ball opened up play as it was then headed
03:45 down for a close-range volley that was fired into the roof of the net.
03:49 Weymouth were now up 3-2 and their momentum didn't stop there.
03:52 Seven minutes later, a plain sailing run of play saw Weymouth score their fourth of the
03:57 game.
03:58 Dover were 4-2 down, but their spirit didn't falter.
04:01 A punch and deflected pass then led to an assist and chip that fell into the path of
04:05 Dover's frontman, Nick Dembele, whose shot flew past the keeper for Dover's third.
04:10 The battle continued.
04:11 A shot from afar, parried by the keeper, found its way to Aidan Sutherland.
04:18 Full time and a 4-4 scoreline meant that this match would be decided on penalties.
04:23 Weymouth netted their first penalty with a cheeky penenka down the middle.
04:26 Zidane for Dover stepped up, but his shot was saved.
04:30 Weymouth then scored again with an excellent top-in spot kick.
04:33 Dover responded as Anifowosi calmly placed his shot into the back of the net, but the
04:39 jubilation of the Dover fans was cut short as Weymouth kept scoring.
04:43 Dover tried their luck once more, but Weymouth's goalkeeper denied them with relative ease.
04:48 Dover were dealt a final blow when Anthony Chesire's shot sent Weymouth through to
04:52 the next round of the Isuzu FA Trophy.
04:55 Elsewhere in the second round of the Isuzu FA Trophy, Maidstone's 1-0 win means they
04:59 are the only team from Kent to advance into the third round.
05:03 As for the Isthmian League Premier Division, both Margate and Folkestone and Victor lost,
05:08 meaning they both fall deeper into the bottom half of the table.
05:12 In the National League, Ebbs Fleet continue their bad run of form as they lost 4-0 to
05:17 Oxford City.
05:18 They sit near the bottom in 22nd.
05:21 But on the positive, the Gilles beat Southford City 3-1, meaning they currently sit in 8th
05:26 position of League 2.
05:28 But Morecambe are hot on their heels with two games in hand.
05:31 "I'm proud of the performance.
05:33 I think the first 15 minutes we struggled to get the ball off them.
05:38 They're a very possession-based team.
05:40 I said to the boys after the game, 'sometimes you do have to suffer a little bit'.
05:44 They didn't really hurt us, but obviously you can feel that the crowd are a little bit
05:48 frustrated we can't win the ball back.
05:49 But our shape was good, it didn't come for us.
05:53 And then by putting that work in, they get their just rewards at the end."
05:56 And we found out this afternoon that Maidstone will play away to Barnet in the next round
06:05 of the FA Trophy.
06:06 And with the national teams now set to join the competition, Ebbs Fleet has drawn at home
06:11 with Bishops Stortford.
06:14 Now moving on, this evening it's time to meet our first guest of the episode.
06:17 Dartford's Patrick Brady has recently become the first teenager to win the UK Men's Pro
06:23 League.
06:25 After eight gruelling weeks consisting of 480 matches and involving more than 100 players,
06:30 the 18-year-old worked through to claim the Golden Pineapple Trophy at the National Tennis
06:36 Centre in Roehampton.
06:38 Well, I'm pleased to say that joining me in the studio now is Patrick himself.
06:41 Patrick, thank you very much for coming along.
06:43 Welcome to Invicta Sport.
06:45 Now we can see on the screen here the Golden Pineapple.
06:47 I mean, that's the best trophy you could possibly receive, Golden Pineapple.
06:51 Have you still got it?
06:52 I still do have it at my home.
06:54 They gave me a replica, a slightly smaller one.
06:56 It's also amazing because the past previous winners like Carl Edmund and certain players
07:02 like Liam Brodie, Emma Raducanu have won these tournaments so it was really nice to see my
07:07 name up on the wall and stuff and get a trophy that size.
07:11 It was really nice.
07:12 I got a smaller one at home but it was a really nice memory and I'm going to remember it for
07:17 a long time.
07:18 And the first teenager to win the men's title as well.
07:20 That must add to all the success.
07:23 How did it feel?
07:24 It felt amazing.
07:25 It was a true...
07:26 I wasn't expecting to win the tournament at the beginning of the week but it was just...
07:31 It felt amazing to be honest.
07:32 Doing all that work that you put in from the beginning of the year, doing three hour running
07:38 sessions just on your own, just with music, trying to pump yourself up and then getting
07:43 some rewards.
07:44 It's a really nice feeling at the end.
07:45 It makes it all worth it in the end.
07:47 So, yeah, that's what you work for, to get moments like this.
07:50 And it wasn't easy, was it?
07:52 You had to play against some players who in previous years have ranked a lot higher than
07:56 you.
07:57 How do you go into a game with somebody who historically would rank a lot higher than
08:00 you?
08:01 I think I love it.
08:02 I love when I play against guys that are higher ranked than me, older than me, more experienced
08:07 than me because it gives me a drive to show people wrong.
08:12 I like being the underdog.
08:14 Maybe when I get older it might be different.
08:16 I might start being the favourite but at the moment I'm enjoying being the underdog.
08:21 I think everyone loves an underdog story as well.
08:23 It kind of helps your career in that way as well.
08:25 Now, this all took place back in October, if I'm right?
08:28 Yes.
08:29 And the reason why we're speaking to you now is because you've actually just had a bit
08:30 of an excursion over in Canada.
08:32 Yes.
08:33 I mean, now international player as well now.
08:35 I mean, what was Canada all like?
08:37 Truly remarkable and special.
08:39 One of the best quotes I saw in an art gallery was, "It was a night and a song I'll never
08:44 forget."
08:45 It was truly amazing travelling these beautiful cities.
08:49 It's not always easy travelling because you've got so much time and so much long hour flights
08:55 but once you arrive it's truly amazing what tennis brings you to.
09:00 Yes, Canada was amazing.
09:02 And we've got a picture here of you meeting one of British tennis's most decorated players,
09:10 of course, Andy Murray.
09:11 I think if we can find that picture we should be able to get it up.
09:16 We're trying to find it.
09:17 We're trying to find it.
09:18 We'll get back.
09:19 We know what Andy Murray looks like and we know what you look like.
09:21 There we go.
09:22 There's the two of you next to each other.
09:23 I mean, I know he's not the first great that you've met but how was it meeting Andy?
09:26 I mean, the first ball I hit I couldn't stop smiling.
09:30 It was just that feeling of the hairs on the back of your neck just stand up and it's just
09:34 like this is it.
09:35 This is like a dream in reality.
09:37 It's so hard to describe and a feeling that felt so joyful and happy in the same moment.
09:43 And yeah, it was a true inspiration to do that back to the day.
09:51 Yeah, I loved every minute of it.
09:53 Absolutely.
09:54 And he's not the only big name that you've met in your career so far.
09:57 You also met Djokovic back when you played in the Wimbledon Juniors.
10:01 When you meet these big names and you are so early on in your career, you've got so
10:05 many stories ahead of you, what do you tend to ask them?
10:08 Do you kind of ask them for tips?
10:10 Everything.
10:11 I try to ask them for everything.
10:12 I want to suck the living life out of them.
10:15 I just want to learn everything and try and improve as much as I can.
10:19 I still have a picture of me and Djokovic in my bedroom.
10:23 And Roger Federer I was also able to meet last year at the Labour Cup.
10:27 So I have two of them, legends on my kind of wall in my bedroom.
10:33 So yeah, it was amazing to be able to be with such icons of the sport that people will talk
10:38 about in hundreds of years.
10:40 It was amazing.
10:41 And it's clear that, I mean we're just looking at some of the pictures of you now, it's clear
10:44 you've got that kind of athletic spark within you, whether it's a gene or whatever it comes
10:49 from.
10:50 But why tennis out of all the sports you could have picked?
10:53 I think it was one of the things, my dad was a tennis coach, so when I was young I looked
10:58 very happy in that picture.
11:00 I just lost at the SO for the first one, I was pretty upset.
11:04 But yeah, sorry back to the question.
11:08 What was it that you asked Roger Federer?
11:10 I asked all about, you know what I've forgotten as well now.
11:13 So let's move on slightly.
11:14 We're going to get a picture.
11:15 No, we were talking about, you mentioned that your dad as a coach.
11:17 Yes, sorry about that.
11:18 Yeah, no, I mean you must have quite a big support system around you.
11:20 I know I've seen a lot, I was looking through a lot of the pictures of your career and you
11:24 seem to always be surrounded by people, family, friends.
11:27 I mean they're everything in life, without them we're nothing.
11:30 So I think I try to take very big pride in that and I try to be around them as much as
11:36 possible even though I have to travel a lot.
11:38 Going back to the tennis part, what got me into tennis was my dad.
11:41 He was a coach at a local tennis club and from the age of four or five years old, I
11:46 can't even remember it.
11:47 I can't remember the first time I picked up a racket but it just took off and I was playing
11:51 every day for hours till night with 50 year old guys trying to beat them and they were
11:58 loving it.
11:59 It just started from there.
12:00 My dad was a tennis coach and yeah, I fell in love with it ever since and here I am now
12:04 still playing.
12:05 Absolutely.
12:06 Well, Patrick, we've got to move on.
12:08 It's time to go to a break now but we've got plenty more sport coming up just after this.
12:11 Thanks.
