00:00 [music]
00:13 This is the story about the three little pigs.
00:16 Look on page one in your picture book and you'll see them.
00:19 They look somewhat alike, but there's one of them that's different from the other two.
00:23 That's the one in the overalls.
00:25 I'll tell you about them if you'll turn the page whenever you hear the bell.
00:29 Like this.
00:30 [ding]
00:31 There, you should be on page two now.
00:33 And there is the first little pig who built his house of straw.
00:37 [music]
00:41 I built my house of straw.
00:43 I built my house of hay.
00:45 I toot my flute, I don't give a hoot, and I play around all day.
00:49 [music]
00:52 Yes, he quickly built his house of straw so that he'd have plenty of time to sing and play.
00:57 While the second little pig, well, let's take a look at his house.
01:01 [ding]
01:02 [music]
01:06 I built my house of sticks.
01:08 I built my house of twigs.
01:10 With the hay diddle diddle I play on the fiddle while I dance all kinds of jigs.
01:14 [music]
01:17 Yes, the second pig built his house quickly too.
01:20 He built his of sticks so that he'd have time to sing and play.
01:24 But the third little pig, that's the one I was telling you about, let's take a look at him.
01:28 [ding]
01:29 [music]
01:33 I built my house of stone.
01:35 I built my house of bricks.
01:37 I have no chance to sing and dance 'cause work and play don't mix.
01:41 [music]
01:44 Of course, building a house of brick was a lot more work than making one out of straw or hay.
01:49 So the third little pig was much too busy to sing and dance.
01:53 The other two pigs, their houses all finished, came dancing by his house.
01:58 And when they saw how hard he was working, they just laughed at him.
02:02 [ding]
02:03 [laughing]
02:06 Look at our brother working on a brick house.
02:09 That takes too long.
02:10 Isn't he silly?
02:11 He should come and sing and dance with us.
02:14 [laughing]
02:19 He don't take no time to play, time to play, time to play.
02:23 All he does is work all day.
02:25 [music]
02:27 [laughing]
02:31 [music]
02:36 [ding]
02:40 [music]
02:42 Well, while his two brothers laughed at him and went on singing and dancing,
02:46 the third little pig went right on with his work.
02:48 He mixed the cement and fastened the bricks securely in place, one at a time.
02:53 It was hard work and it took a long time, but you could see the house was going to be very strong.
02:59 But the other pigs still laughed at him until he finally turned to them and said,
03:04 "You can play and laugh and fiddle. Don't think you can make me sore.
03:08 I'll be safe and you'll be sorry when the wolf comes to your door."
03:12 [ding]
03:13 [music]
03:15 But the other two pigs just laughed at him.
03:18 [laughing]
03:22 Who's afraid of the big bad wolf, big bad wolf, big bad wolf?
03:26 Who's afraid of the big bad wolf?
03:28 [music]
03:30 So off went the two little pigs on their merry way,
03:33 while the third little pig went back to work finishing up his house.
03:36 But while this was going on, the wolf really was nearby.
03:40 [music]
03:41 [ding]
03:42 [music]
03:44 He knew the pigs were in the woods,
03:46 and he was planning to sneak up on them when they weren't looking.
03:49 You see, wolves like to eat little pigs,
03:52 and that's just what this big bad wolf was planning to do.
03:56 He jumped behind trees, crawled along the ground,
03:58 and finally got so close to the two little pigs, he could hear them singing.
04:03 [music]
04:05 Who's afraid of the big bad wolf, big bad wolf, big bad wolf?
04:09 Who's afraid of the big bad wolf?
04:11 [music]
04:13 I'll punch him in the nose.
04:14 I'll tie him in a knot.
04:15 I'll kick him in the shin.
04:16 We'll put him on the spot.
04:17 [laughing]
04:20 But as they laughed, the wolf jumped out from behind a tree and--
04:23 [ding]
04:24 [music]
04:28 When the pigs really saw the wolf, all their singing and laughing suddenly stopped.
04:33 They were so frightened, they started to run as fast as their little pigs' legs could carry them.
04:37 And the wolf, who was a very fast runner, started after them,
04:41 feeling sure that he would soon have some nice roast pig for dinner.
04:45 [music]
04:49 Hurry, hurry. He's right behind us.
04:52 I'm coming as fast as I can.
04:55 Stop. I'll catch you anyway.
04:59 I'm going to my house and lock the door.
05:02 And I'm going to my house and lock the door, too.
05:05 Stop. Stop. Do you hear?
05:08 I'll get you. I'll get you.
05:11 You little pigs. Come back.
05:14 [music]
05:19 [ding]
05:20 [music]
05:22 Well, with the wolf right behind them, the pigs ran straight home.
05:26 The first little pig ran to his straw house, scooted inside, shut the door, and locked it.
05:31 [ding]
05:32 And the second little pig scooted into his house of sticks, shut the door, and locked it.
05:37 [ding]
05:38 And they thought they were safe, but the wolf ran up to the first little pig's house and said,
05:43 "Open the door and let me in."
05:46 Not with the hair of my chinny-chin-chin.
05:49 I'll huff and I'll puff and I'll blow your house in.
05:54 [music]
05:56 [ding]
05:57 [music]
06:05 And there went the first little pig's house of straw.
06:08 One big blow by that wolf and it was blown completely away.
06:12 [music]
06:13 [laughing]
06:16 Now I've got you, you little pig.
06:19 [laughing]
06:22 And off ran the little pig straight for his brother's house, the one made of sticks.
06:27 [ding]
06:28 And before the wolf could catch him, his brother had opened the door just long enough to let him in.
06:34 But he shut it before the wolf could make it.
06:37 [ding]
06:38 [music]
06:39 And both little pigs now thought they were safe because the wolf couldn't break in the wooden door.
06:44 And they finally said, "Curses! Well, they're too smart for me. I guess I'll go home."
06:51 [music]
06:55 But he only pretended to run away.
06:57 And pretty soon he was back with a sheepskin over him and a bottle in his mouth.
07:02 He settled himself in a basket in front of the pig's door and...
07:05 [knocking]
07:07 Who's there?
07:09 I'm a poor little sheep with no place to sleep.
07:12 Please open the door and let me in.
07:15 Not with the hair of our chinny-chin-chin. You can't fool us with that old sheepskin.
07:20 [growling]
07:21 I'll huff and I'll puff and I'll blow your house in.
07:25 [music]
07:28 [ding]
07:29 [music]
07:37 And the flimsy stick house blew completely away,
07:40 leaving the two pigs standing right in front of the wolf.
07:44 Well, did they ever turn around and start to run with the wolf right after them?
07:49 And you might guess where they headed. Straight for their brother's house,
07:52 the one the third little pig had built of bricks and stones.
07:56 [music]
08:00 [music]
08:06 [ding]
08:07 Into the brick house they ran, while the third little pig shut and locked the door behind them.
08:12 [door opening]
08:13 And said, "See, I told you what would happen when that big wolf came around.
08:19 All my bricks and stones are wolf-proof now at last you're safe and sound."
08:23 [music]
08:27 Who's afraid of the big bad wolf? Big bad wolf, big bad wolf.
08:31 Who's afraid of the--
08:32 [knocking]
08:33 Who's there?
08:34 Open the door and let me in.
08:38 Not with the hair of our chinny-chin-chin.
08:42 I'll huff and I'll puff and I'll blow your house in.
08:46 [ding]
08:47 [music]
09:12 That old wolf huffed and puffed until he was blue in the face,
09:16 but he couldn't budge that brick house.
09:18 Suddenly he looked up on the roof and got an idea.
09:22 He'd try coming down the chimney.
09:26 So up on the roof he went and began wiggling down the chimney.
09:32 But inside the third little pig saw soot falling down the chimney,
09:35 and he knew what the crafty old wolf was up to.
09:38 So he took the lid off the pot and poured turpentine into it.
09:40 Well, by the time the wolf had managed to squeeze down the chimney,
09:43 the fire had made that turpentine pretty hot and--
09:46 [music]
09:48 [explosion]
09:50 Ow! Whoa! Whoa! Whoa!
09:52 [shrieking]
09:54 [screaming]
09:57 [music]
10:02 [laughing]
10:04 Well, a dose of that hot turpentine was enough for him.
10:07 He'd gone back up that chimney so fast he didn't know what had happened.
10:10 And off he ran. He'd had just about enough of those pigs and that brick house.
10:16 [music]
10:21 While the three little pigs, safe inside, had a bit of a celebration.
10:25 For you see, the pigs had learned their lesson.
10:28 There's a time for work and a time for play.
10:32 [music]
10:54 (music ends)
