Oklahoma defensive coordinator Ted Roof speaks to the media following the Sooners' win over BYU.
Transcript
00:00 >> Well, Coach Roof, they were able to run the ball with some success today.
00:03 What did you think of the way that your defense rebounded in the second half?
00:06 >> Well, I was really proud of the way they rebounded.
00:08 We made some mistakes that we've gotta clean up, we've gotta get fixed.
00:15 But at the same time, made a lot of game changing plays when we needed it the most
00:20 and played complimentary football.
00:22 And again, not pleased overall, not pleased with the performance.
00:26 But at the same time, really again showed the belief and
00:30 the resiliency that this team has.
00:32 And proud of our guys, the way they competed.
00:35 I mean, that made a bunch of big plays there in the second half that
00:39 kept the game and obviously impacted us getting a win.
00:43 >> So one of those plays, Billy Goldman's pick six.
00:45 Can you kinda walk me through that?
00:46 What allowed him to take that to the house?
00:48 >> Well, they were throwing a little hitch route and
00:52 he got a great break on the ball and made a great break.
00:56 Stepped in front of the receiver and took it to the house.
01:00 But again, not surprised about that cuz Billy's been making big plays for
01:04 us all year.
01:05 And really proud of him and just a really big play at a huge time,
01:10 cuz that was a 14 point swing.
01:13 >> So what do you think allowed them so much success on the ground?
01:16 You guys have been pretty good against the runoff season.
01:18 >> I think it was a combination of things.
01:20 I think that some of it was them, some of it was us.
01:23 And again, I give them credit.
01:26 At the same time, we got some things we gotta fix.
01:29 So we gotta get them fixed and we will.
01:32 >> And so DeSan McCullough was back today after missing last week.
01:35 What do you think of the way he came back today?
01:37 >> I think he played solid, made a couple big plays for us.
01:42 Maybe that didn't stand out in the stat sheet, but had a solid day and
01:46 proud of him.
01:47 >> And what about Kobe McKenzie?
01:48 It looked like he was kinda all over the field today.
01:50 He hasn't played as much, it seems like, this year until recently.
01:53 >> Yeah, we tried a bunch of different combinations today at linebacker.
01:57 And again, just wanted to see if we could find somebody with a hot hand.
02:03 And at the same time, everything that Danny's been through,
02:07 the food poisoning last night.
02:10 But his toughness, both mentally and physically, and
02:14 his commitment to the team, and that's what you saw.
02:16 You saw some belief and resiliency and some competitive toughness.
02:22 Awesome.
