Bob Edwards Fatal Crash @ Maple Grove Dragway 1977

Born on 21 June 1950 in Frederick County, Maryland, Robert Wilson Edwards was a professional drag racer and a farmer. Edwards was the Top Fuel runner-up at the 1976 NHRA Springnationals in Columbus, Ohio losing to Shirley Muldowney. This would be a historic moment as it represented Muldowney's first ever NHRA national win.

Edwards was fatally injured driving a Top Fuel Dragster at Maple Grove Dragway in Reading, PA on 15 May 1977 in the Pennsylvania Dutch Classic. His dragster broke a front axle and went under the guardrail. Edwards suffered a fractured skull and was killed instantly. The car was owned by the Edwards Bros.

Bob Edwards was a resident of Route 1, Union Bridge, Maryland. A twenty-six-year old, he was survived by his wife, Pamela (Frounfelter) Edwards, his parents, Lon W. and Maddaleen Skinner Edwards, two sisters, Mrs. Elaine C. Long and Mrs. Barbara Schneider, two brothers, Lon D. and Charles S., and maternal grandmother, Mrs. D. S. Edwards, Sr. Edwards was buried at the Pipe Creek Cemetery, Maryland.
