00:00 Hyundai has just rolled out a brand new infotainment system.
00:03 It is that pearler right there, 10.25 inches.
00:06 It is an absolute whopper.
00:07 Today I'm going to take you through the infotainment system, give you a review and let you know
00:11 if it's any good.
00:14 Hyundai's infotainment game has massively stepped forward and it is thanks to this.
00:18 It looks really impressive.
00:19 It's super high resolution.
00:21 Beneath it, just as a side note, you've got capacitive touch buttons.
00:24 So what you do is just click with your finger.
00:26 You just kind of push a little bit and it activates so they're really handy.
00:30 The screen can be displayed in split screen and here on the home screen you'll see three
00:34 main pillars and then you can swipe to get to the other menu items.
00:38 The navigation first.
00:40 So it's a really nicely presented screen, very high resolution and entering addresses
00:44 is really easy.
00:45 So you just click up here.
00:46 If you want to type in an address, you just start typing it in.
00:49 You'll see suggestions showing up here and then once you've found one, you just click
00:53 on it and it will give you the different options.
00:55 You hit start guidance and away it goes.
00:57 Inbuilt traffic guidance there as well so it will reroute if traffic does become bad.
01:03 Now the curious thing here as well is that you have the ability to look for points of
01:06 interest such as charges because this is a plug-in hybrid and of course you've got the
01:11 electric model as well.
01:13 This will navigate you to the nearest charger where you can plug the car in and get that
01:16 full charge which is really handy to know.
01:19 And outside of that, the rest is all pretty straightforward.
01:21 You get voice recognition as well but it only applies to Apple CarPlay or Android Auto when
01:26 you have your smartphone mirroring and I'm going to go into a bit more detail on that
01:29 in just a second as well.
01:30 Back here on the home screen, you've also got access to the radio menu.
01:34 DAB+ digital radio is inbuilt so you get an absolute raft of stations there, more than
01:39 you could ever know what to do with and the music quality is fantastic thanks to the 8-speaker
01:44 Infinity sound system.
01:46 Back on the home screen, you also have for the plug-in hybrid model and also for the
01:49 electric a whole stack of driving data.
01:52 So here you've got your range.
01:53 As you can see here, we're down to zero because we have used all of that internal battery
01:57 and we're now basically just using that internal combustion engine to move the car with the
02:02 electric motor as a boost when required.
02:04 When you hit that, you'll be able to select options for chargers.
02:07 So you can see there's a charger there and it can also guide me to that charger should
02:11 I want to go there.
02:12 Energy information, this tells you how much range you've got and how long the car is going
02:16 to take to charge.
02:17 So if you just plug in on a standard plug, it's going to take 4.15 hours, whereas if
02:22 you plug in on an AC charger, which is a slightly faster version of a standard domestic plug,
02:28 it'll take around two and a half hours to charge.
02:30 So that is really handy information to know, plus your battery life there as well.
02:35 Charge management is another fascinating thing.
02:37 Obviously not that big of a deal for something with such a small battery like this, but you
02:40 are able to set off-peak charging.
02:42 So if you do have cheaper energy rates after midnight, for example, simply pop that into
02:46 here and the car will then charge off-peak.
02:48 You can also limit the amount of charging current that is coming through the car.
02:52 So if you've got an extension cable or something you're not meant to be using, you can limit
02:56 the amount of current that it's pulling out of that.
02:58 Eco-driving, this tells you what your history is like.
03:01 Now the fascinating thing here, we'll get to this in the driving section, but this car
03:04 is fairly bang on when it comes to its driving performance.
03:08 In our previous driving loop, 85 kilometres with a full battery, the car averaged 1.9
03:13 litres per 100km.
03:14 So it ran out of battery at around that 63km mark, and then from there onwards it was using
03:18 a mix of battery and also the internal combustion engine.
03:21 1.9 litres per 100km, so that is pretty impressive stuff.
03:25 And then energy flow, I think Toyota kind of mastered this with the Prius.
03:29 You've got an idea of where your power and torque is coming from, where your regen's
03:33 going.
03:34 It is really clever in the way that it presents that information.
03:37 Now the other interesting thing in here as well is the manual.
03:40 So a lot of car companies will build the manual into that infotainment system, but this one's
03:44 a little bit different.
03:45 It has a QR code, so just getting your phone out, you open the camera, scan it on the QR
03:50 code, there it is there, and it says open hyundai.com in Safari, and then Bob's your
03:56 uncle, you have the web manual on your phone for your car.
04:00 So it is a really clever setup and it means they don't need to waste any space trying
04:04 to integrate a manual into that screen there.
04:06 The other great feature on Hyundai's and Kia's is the voice memo function.
04:09 If you're out on the road and you come up with a great business idea, like a new YouTube
04:13 channel for cars, you can simply record it into here, it will stay there and then you
04:18 can catch up with it later.
04:19 And then you have the rest of your basic functions like phone, so obviously all Bluetooth pairing
04:23 there, you can do everything that you can in most other cars except the voice recognition
04:27 function which is a little frustrating unless your phone is paired and mirrored.
04:31 And then outside of that you've also got specific functions and settings that I find fascinating.
04:36 So for example in the display settings you have a blue light filter, so at night time
04:41 it will reduce the amount of strain on your eyes by limiting blue light emissions.
04:45 Here's a fun fact for you, did you know this is one of the first Hyundais with this
04:49 big screen, but it is also one of the first Hyundais with widescreen Apple CarPlay and
04:53 Android Auto.
04:55 Most modern cars these days that do have these big screens, and Volvo jumps to mind here,
04:59 you can't actually get a widescreen version of your smartphone mirroring.
05:03 Well Hyundai has solved that.
05:05 Plug this in for your smartphone mirroring, it pairs up with the phone and then it displays
05:09 your CarPlay option which is just there.
05:13 Look at that, you are getting a full screen experience.
05:15 So it is really beautifully laid out and this is something that you're not getting in much
05:20 more expensive cars.
05:22 And one more fun fact for you, Hyundai has killed the auxiliary plug, it's gone.
05:26 It's kind of like the CD player, it's slowly becoming extinct from cars and they've gone
05:30 in favour of Bluetooth and USB streaming for audio.
05:34 That is a seriously impressive infotainment system.
05:36 It is let down by the fact you still can't do voice recognition without smartphone mirroring,
05:41 but overall it is a fantastic unit.
05:43 Let us know in the comments what you think of it.
05:45 Have you tried it?
05:46 Do you need a bigger infotainment screen in your Hyundai?
05:49 Or have you tested one that's better?
