00:00 It's a brilliant thing for Mansfield. It doesn't just bring the community together more, it's
00:07 culture. When you talk of film, you talk of culture and the amount of people that's been
00:14 in here and watching it.
00:15 So you know, this isn't just highbrow stuff here, this is for everyone in Mansfield and
00:20 where can you come along at a weekend and see maybe 50 different films in one weekend?
00:27 It's just incredible. We normally go along to the ODIM, we'll see one. So people need
00:31 to come down here, sample it.
00:34 There was never anything like this locally when I was growing up and if there was I would
00:39 race to be here. It's such a good opportunity to inspire emerging filmmakers and people who
00:45 are already making films. But it's also so important to have opportunities like this
00:49 to network and grow and meet like-minded people, share ideas.
00:54 The Film Festival in Mansfield is a thing now and it should continue to be a thing.
00:57 I hope it gets bigger and goes on from here. I'm sure that it will and I'm sure that the
01:02 guys who made it won't let it drop either. But it's brilliant to see so many people here.
01:05 Lots of people coming to celebrate the awards tonight as well. And Mansfield, there's no
01:10 reason why it can't be a cultural centre for everything and anything, right? Particularly
01:14 with all the people who are so keen to drive that forward. More and more funding we're
01:18 finding for it these days as well. So long may it continue.
01:21 To anyone who says what's the point of having a Mansfield Town Film Festival, I'll say everything
01:25 is every point. Mansfield is a hub of creativity, innovation, working class voices, international
01:31 voices. If you haven't been to the Mansfield Film Festival this year you've missed out
01:35 and if it's back next year then come and you'll know exactly why we're having it.
01:38 What I think is fantastic is how the town has got behind welcoming filmmakers and their
01:44 wonderful work to create another great event in a really great town. I think the venue
01:52 is fantastic and it's a great foundation to build on year on year on year to add more
02:00 excitement into the town.
02:01 Oh it's absolutely brilliant and the fact that Jay and his team have put on such an
02:05 amazing film festival and I hope it continues for years to come.
02:09 I wasn't expecting but it's a pleasure that we've won and it's really fun that we're here.
02:15 I've enjoyed every bit of it.
02:17 Well I've been here all weekend. I came on the Friday night. It's been growing all weekend
02:22 so people have been coming. Every day it's been getting bigger and bigger and bigger.
02:25 Tonight I think is going to be the biggest night and there's going to be lots of clapping,
02:28 lots of drinking I think as well and lots of rewards won.
02:32 It's unlike anything else. I do a lot of film festivals. I love it and I love working them
02:35 and being part of them and the atmosphere here it just feels so exciting. Like it's
02:42 my first ever festival again and I've been to some of the big ones. It just feels different.
02:48 Everyone seems so happy to be here and I've never had that.
02:51 It's a great film festival. I consider myself very fortunate that through films I've been
02:58 to festivals all over the world and you would not believe this was the first time Mass Royal
03:03 has ever had a film festival because this is up there with the very best. This has got
03:08 it right from day one. It's just been a fantastic festival, beautifully put together.
03:13 We are so excited to have been asked by Jay to come and do a talk here. So we did a little
03:18 Q&A yesterday in the main stage and we spoke about what we do and all of our aims into
03:25 making cinema more ethical.
03:27 I think that Mansfield having a film festival is huge. It's going to bring all sorts of
03:33 creatives together to express their ideas and their thoughts and their projects. It's
03:41 a great creative outlet.
03:43 I heard of Mansfield on Instagram. I saw some trailers for some really exciting looking
03:50 short films and I got a little bit obsessed, started stalking everyone and yeah, just came
03:56 to see what the North had to offer.
04:00 It's incredible. I mean, the effect that this festival will have and the continued
04:05 presence of this festival is, you can already see it, there's such a buzz around the cinema
04:11 and being so engaged with the history of Mansfield but moreover the way that it's showcasing
04:16 working class voices and there's such a diversity of voices.
04:20 I've come for the entire three days. I've got my collection of wristbands here and the
04:26 reason why is because it's the first film festival in Mansfield and thank God we're
04:34 finally being able to get this cultural festival. It's such a nice thing to have here in my
04:41 hometown.
04:42 Seeing something like this come to Mansfield, it's something you'd never really expect.
04:47 Coming down and people travelling from France, from Spain. I'm originally from Kirkby, Jack's
04:53 from the other side towards Kutney is it?
04:55 Yeah, Kutney, Norton, close by.
04:57 Both the other side of Mansfield and seeing all these people come to the South for something
05:00 like this is great.
05:01 It's great for us, puts Mansfield on the map and we were really excited to come back for
05:05 it because I'm now based down South.
