00:00 The countdown has begun to this 17th annual Skegness Santa Fun Run.
00:06 The event, which is organised by Skegness Rotary Club, raises money for local charities, including the RNLI.
00:14 Now Pat, you're the president of the Rotary Club in Skegness. How long have you been holding these Santa Runs?
00:23 This year will be the 17th year. I was just telling Brad earlier we've had years where the route has been covered with ice and we've had to postpone it.
00:30 But it's still gone ahead. We've done it in rain and wind and sunshine.
00:34 And yeah, 17th year and it's always been a very successful event for us and good fun, which is the main thing.
00:41 Yes, it is absolutely good fun.
00:44 And raising money for charities.
00:46 Which is important. Yeah, we'll talk to Brad about that in a minute.
00:49 So for the people who think, you know, oh, I'd quite like to take part in that. When is the race?
00:56 So the race is on Sunday, the 3rd of December.
00:59 We start about 10 o'clock with a bit of a warm up, helped by the lifeboat crew.
01:06 Sets off at 10.30 and it goes from the lifeboat station up to the clock tower, along the seafront and back along the promenade and finishing coming down from the clock tower.
01:17 So how far is that?
01:20 And that is 5km approximately.
01:23 So do you have to be fit to do it?
01:25 You can run it if you're fit. You can walk it. You can push a pram. You can walk a dog. You can skip it. Whatever it takes to get you round.
01:35 We will be delighted to see everybody who wants to just join in with the Christmas atmosphere, raise money for charity and take part in this community event.
01:46 Now one of the charities is the RNLI. Brad, how important is this event to the RNLI in Scopeness?
01:54 So it's a charity that's been going nearly 200 years. We rely on organisations such as the Rotary and fundraising events throughout the year to keep our charity going.
02:02 We're all volunteers here at the lifeboat and it's the kind donations of organisations like the Rotary Club, but also the people taking part.
02:10 Every penny that they give towards these events helps contribute to our work of saving lives at sea here in the East Lincolnshire coastline.
02:18 So for us, it's a real honour that we're the chosen charity every year.
02:22 And it's a pleasure to have people come to our station to start here, see our work.
02:26 There'll be crew here, so there'll be opportunities for people to meet the crew.
02:30 And it's just a real privilege year on year to be supported by such an awesome organisation.
02:37 The Fun Run isn't the only festive event being hosted by the RNLI this Christmas.
02:44 So the Amazing Santa Dash Run event is part of a whole catalogue of Christmas events we've got going on this year at the lifeboat.
02:51 So on the same day, starting around about 11 o'clock, 12 o'clock, we've got our Muldwine and Carols event, which will take place in the boathouse.
02:58 We pull the boat out and we have a choir at the back of the boathouse singing. It's a free event for the community to come by.
03:03 And also we've got two events at a local cafe called The Hideout just down the road.
03:07 We've got our character breakfast and pizza parties, which are proceeded by going to the charity.
03:12 So you can meet Stormy Stan and Santa and some Christmas elves and have some breakfast and pizzas with them.
03:17 As well as our annual crew-led toy drive, which starts on the 2nd of December and goes through to the 9th of December.
03:23 Where we're collecting toys for the Skegness Food Bank, as well as the Derbyshire Miners Children's Centre.
03:28 So we've got loads of events going on over Christmas. Go on our Facebook page as well as the Rotary's Facebook page to find out all about it.
03:35 But for us, it's about giving back at Christmas, as well as celebrating Christmas with community partners and the people who make our town great, which is our visitors and our residents.
03:44 residents.
