Transcript
00:00 Thanks everybody for joining us today.
00:01 Earlier today, I met with Coach Arnett
00:04 and let him know he was relieved of his duties
00:06 as head football coach of Mississippi State.
00:09 I wanna start by thanking Coach Arnett
00:12 for his contributions, both as a defensive coordinator
00:15 and as the head coach after taking over
00:18 after the tragic passing of Coach Leach.
00:20 Zach is a great man of integrity,
00:22 and we wish him and his family all the very best
00:25 in future endeavors.
00:27 As the responsible leader of our athletics department,
00:30 I constantly look at ways that we can get better.
00:33 Part of that is looking at the health of our programs,
00:36 and when necessary, it's my responsibility
00:39 to correct areas where we are falling short.
00:41 It has become clear that we need a shift in leadership,
00:44 so therefore we must act.
00:46 Shortly after meeting with Coach Arnett,
00:47 I met with senior analyst Greg Knox
00:50 and asked him to serve as our interim head coach
00:51 for the remainder of this season.
00:54 Coach Knox is a true professional
00:55 and instantly accepted the role.
00:57 Coach Knox has experience in this role
00:59 both here at Mississippi State and also at Florida.
01:02 After meeting with Coach Knox,
01:04 I met with the rest of the coaching staff
01:06 and shared with them our plan
01:07 and confirmed with each of them
01:09 their professional obligations and duties
01:11 to continue to pour into our young men.
01:13 All of our existing assistant coaches
01:17 will remain in their roles for the duration of the season
01:20 and have been asked to give their all to Mississippi State
01:22 and align with Coach Knox.
01:25 Our football student athletes were called to a team meeting
01:27 after I met with the coaches this morning.
01:30 We will meet again this afternoon.
01:32 I can tell you this,
01:34 we have a locker room full of young men
01:36 who are eager to grow,
01:37 and I know Coach Knox, with his leadership,
01:40 will inject confidence, connection,
01:43 and belief within our program.
01:44 All the decisions that we make
01:47 are always centered on the best interest
01:49 of our student athletes.
01:50 Winning football programs are built on toughness,
01:54 consistency, togetherness, belief,
01:58 connection, passion, and resiliency.
02:03 We have shown throughout our history
02:05 all of these ingredients can be found right here
02:07 in Starkville, Mississippi.
