v Inside Out 2 (2024) Movie Preview
Transcript
00:00 Inside Out from the year 2015 is still considered one of the most successful Pixar movies of
00:07 all time.
00:08 Totally deserved, the film also won the Oscar in the category "Best Animated Feature"
00:13 at the Academy Awards.
00:14 It was all the more surprising that nothing about a possible sequel to the film was made
00:18 known for years.
00:19 But at Disney's D23 Expo last year, the time finally came and Inside Out 2 was officially
00:24 announced.
00:25 In it, the story around Riley and her emotions will continue to be told.
00:29 In today's original, we take a brief look back at part 1 and tell you everything you
00:33 need to know about the sequel.
00:36 Let's take another quick look at what the first movie was actually about.
00:39 We experience the birth of Riley and the start of her emotion headquarters.
00:43 From now on, the emotions joy, sadness, fear, anger, and disgust work together to take responsibility
00:48 for Riley's actions and save her memories.
00:51 The really important memories are stored as core memories, which form Riley's personality.
00:56 This is made up of, for example, family, honesty, ice hockey, friendship, and fooling around.
01:01 However, all is put to the test when young Riley moves with her parents from rural Minnesota
01:05 to San Francisco.
01:07 After sadness touches on a memory on the first day at Riley's new school, she begins to cry.
01:11 Sadness also causes arguments with Riley's parents, whom she accuses of being to blame
01:15 for her distress.
01:16 In an attempt to salvage the situation, joy and sadness are conveyed into the labyrinth
01:20 of long-term memory.
01:21 With them, the core memories also vanish, and so the two must try to find these again
01:26 in order to preserve Riley's personality.
01:28 A race against time begins as they both relive Riley's childhood.
01:31 In the end, by working together, they manage to create a new core memory, and Riley can
01:36 be happy again.
01:38 As we already know, there is a decent time jump in the new movie, namely to Riley's
01:42 adolescence.
01:43 The emotions joy, sadness, fear, anger, and disgust are of course back, but it's entirely
01:48 possible that other emotions will be added during this exciting stage of life.
01:52 At the D23 Expo, Pixar CCO Pete Docter revealed that there may be up to 27 emotions in the
01:58 upcoming sequel.
01:59 This, he said, is necessary to portray the complex emotions of a young teenage girl.
02:03 The plot will most likely take place in San Francisco again, and will revolve around the
02:07 complex struggles that a teenager experiences during puberty.
02:11 Many viewers will be able to identify themselves with topics such as self-doubt, physical transformation,
02:16 as well as the first butterflies in their tummies.
02:18 So it may well be that we will witness how the emotions have to cope when Riley is rejected
02:22 for the first time or hurt by her crush.
02:25 Perhaps it's also Riley who is upsetting someone else and can't really handle it herself.
02:29 Nevertheless, the movie will certainly be aimed at a broader audience again.
02:33 Even though the first film was about the emotions of a child, for example, the connections between
02:37 feelings, memories, and behavior were universally relevant.
02:41 If the creators put as much passion and excitement into it again, the years-long wait for a sequel
02:46 will definitely pay off.
02:48 At least as far as the original cast is concerned, there are some changes.
02:52 Although Amy Poehler is back as the original Voice of Joy, insider sources indicate that
02:56 Bill Hader and Mindy Kaling, as feared and discussed, have dropped out.
03:00 The reason for this is the huge salary range among voice actors.
03:03 While Poehler pocketed as much as $5 million, the other two were barely offered $100,000.
03:08 And even though Disney wanted to raise their pay, the two declined with thanks.
03:12 Whether the other dubbing actors will be back is not known so far.
03:16 The cause for the rather meager wages is said to be Disney's new policy of savings when
03:20 it comes to animated films.
03:21 This has already been noticeable in a number of Pixar films, which have been released directly
03:25 on Disney+ instead of theaters, such as the story about the afterlife, Soul, the island
03:30 adventure, Luca, and the adolescent film, Turning Red.
03:33 The script of Inside Out 2 is already written, which means that the animation process should
03:38 be in full swing by now.
03:39 As with the previous movie, the story was written by Meg LeFauve.
03:42 However, there has been a change as far as the director is concerned.
03:46 Pete Docter will be succeeded by Kelsey Mann, who has already gathered animation experience
03:50 on Onward and The Good Dinosaur, for example.
03:54 The release date for Inside Out 2 is currently set for June 14, 2024.
03:59 According to the website World of Reel, we can expect to see the first teaser trailer
04:03 for the sequel in November.
04:04 This would make sense, as it can be attached to Disney's new animation movie, Wish, which
04:08 will release in U.S. theaters on November 22nd.
04:11 In the recent years, Disney also released first trailers for their big summer movies
04:14 around November, so it would fit perfectly to build up hype for the sequel early once
04:18 again.
