00:00 More than 30,000 shipping containers are piled up at ports across eastern Australia.
00:05 The immense backlog comes after one of the world's largest port operators shut down facilities
00:11 after a cyber attack Friday.
00:13 The breach crippled operations at DP World, which manages about 40% of the goods that
00:18 flow in and out of Australia.
00:21 This afternoon DP World announced that they are resuming operations at their facilities.
00:27 Their expectation is that 5,000 containers will leave their ports today.
00:32 Speaker, the incident at DP World is the latest in a string of cyber attacks which have shaken
00:38 our country.
00:39 According to a company spokesperson, local strikes will also hit DP World soon, so it
00:44 may be next week before normal activity resumes in Australia.
00:48 Neither the federal government nor DP World have attributed blame for the hack.
00:52 DP World has not indicated that it received any ransomware demands.
00:58 Last year, hackers also targeted Australia's largest health insurer and a major telecoms
01:03 company.
01:04 Some victims pay ransoms without reporting it, making it hard for the government to know
01:08 the exact extent of the problem.
01:11 In the future, the government plans to force businesses to report any ransom incident as
01:15 part of its mission to bolster cybersecurity protections.
