Bengals WR Trenton Irwin Reacts After Loss to Texans
Transcript
00:00 So I'm proud of him, he came out and made some big plays.
00:03 Did his thing as normal, but with the back injury,
00:06 it's obviously extra impressive.
00:09 - Did he talk on the bench at all?
00:10 Did he say how he was feeling during the game?
00:12 - Man's a baller, he was just going out there making plays.
00:14 And we didn't really talk a ton about it,
00:17 but he knew he had to do to be able
00:19 to go out there and make plays.
00:20 - You said this was stunning,
00:22 seeing Joe throw two late interceptions like that.
00:24 How shocking is that to you guys as an offensive?
00:27 - We all made mistakes.
00:29 There's a lot of stuff on there in the film
00:30 that I made mistakes on.
00:31 There's a lot of stuff that I think as an offense,
00:34 we just, we gotta get rid of those.
00:36 You know, I think we all made mistakes late in the game,
00:38 but we were still able to be right there.
00:40 So it's one of those things that, you know,
00:42 there's a lot of people who made a lot of mistakes.
00:44 It wasn't our prettiest game,
00:46 almost got out of it with a win,
00:47 and that would have been fun to walk away with,
00:49 but at the end of the day, he didn't.
00:51 - Yeah.
00:53 For sure.
00:55 - Trent, what'd you see on the 32 yarder?
00:57 Obviously it was one of the high points.
00:58 - Yeah.
00:59 I saw the corner's eyes inside,
01:01 so I was just, I knew that ball could be up there.
01:03 You know, it's one of those plays where, you know,
01:06 you got a weapon like Jamar in the slot there.
01:09 He attracts a lot of attention.
01:11 So I knew that ball could be up
01:12 and just tried to get out there, get with,
01:15 and let Joe do his thing.
01:17 - Perfect throw.
01:18 - Perfect though.
01:19 - It seemed like, right?
01:20 It was a dot.
01:20 Would you just--
01:21 - Nah, it was on a line.
01:22 It was, yeah, no.
01:23 Before the safety could get there, it was perfect.
01:24 - Offensively, that happens.
01:26 You start fast again.
01:27 It felt like you guys were going to get rolling,
01:28 at least from my vantage point.
01:29 What was the difference?
01:31 You had, I think, five straight points.
01:32 - Yeah.
01:33 It was that second quarter.
01:35 The end of the first, end of the second,
01:37 where we just, we didn't do a lot.
01:40 We went three and out, put our defense in a bad spot,
01:42 and it was tough.
01:44 - The end of the game, obviously it was crazy.
01:46 You guys get the ball,
01:48 have a chance to take the lead there.
01:49 What's going through your mind with a finish like that?
01:52 - You know, we were down 10 with like,
01:54 I think it was three minutes left.
01:55 So I, and they had the ball.
01:57 So it was one of those things
01:58 where we're just going to keep fighting.
01:59 But, you know, Cameron made a great play
02:01 to get us in on the five yard line
02:03 with under two minutes there.
02:04 And then when everyone continued to make big plays
02:06 and, you know, we just got to make one more play as a group.
02:09 You know, I got plenty of plays that I could have just made
02:11 to put us in better positions.
02:12 And I think everyone in the offense can say that.
02:16 So it's one of those things
02:16 that we just got to make that one more play.
02:18 And we didn't.
02:19 - That's the thing in a football game like this.
02:21 It's never just one play.
02:23 There's always an elaboration of things
02:25 that you can go back and look at.
02:27 But if you had to pick out like something
02:30 that was most disappointing
02:31 that you didn't anticipate taking place as a group
02:33 or whatever in this football game, what might that be?
02:37 - I think it's that second quarter.
02:38 It's that end of the first, end of the second quarter.
02:40 You know, we got out hot and then, I don't know,
02:42 we hit a wall and I don't even know exactly why, you know,
02:44 we'll watch film and hopefully learn why.
02:46 But we went three and out, put our defense in a tough spot.
02:49 And then we, then we're playing from behind, you know,
02:51 and we didn't need to play from behind in that game
02:54 with the way that we were rolling in the end
02:55 and how we hit off in the beginning.
02:57 We didn't need to play from behind.
02:58 And that's, you know, that's always one of those games.
03:00 You play from behind and you risk the chance
03:02 of one thing bouncing this way or that way
03:03 and end up losing.
03:05 - Trenton, when you lose a game like this
03:06 and this team so often finds ways to win a game like this,
03:10 is it kind of baffling to sit here with a loss
03:12 after a game like this?
03:13 - It is.
03:14 You know, I think the team has belief
03:16 that we're going to make the plays to win.
03:19 And it doesn't always turn out that way
03:21 because they also have great players.
03:23 So, you know, that is a belief that we have.
03:25 And that's a belief that we'll have
03:26 regardless of the outcome.
03:28 Is that we're going to go out there
03:29 and make the plays to go win.
03:31 And in that game, it didn't bounce our way.
03:33 Which you could say it didn't bounce our way.
03:35 Then we made a lot of mistakes.
03:36 We made a lot of good plays and we made a lot of mistakes.
03:38 And, you know, that's not the type of football
03:41 that you get to dominate.
03:41 That's the type of ball you get down to
03:43 the last second plays.
03:44 And one thing bounces this way or that way.
03:46 And it's one of those things you gotta deal with.
