00:00 We were prepared to play a good football team, and I told them that.
00:03 Take some of the football games they played.
00:06 So just a matter of time and having a big game.
00:10 But I don't know if it's us.
00:11 We were losing 44 to 14.
00:15 Wasn't an easy sight to look at.
00:16 So we didn't do a lot of good things in offense.
00:20 We turned the ball over.
00:21 They kept locking in every play they, every turnover they had.
00:24 It was a real good stuff on offense.
00:26 First rushing ball and the big plays came in and we could have stopped them.
00:31 So once the process started, none of us could have stopped it.
00:35 So it was a great job.
00:37 Coach McKenzie did a great job on this program.
00:39 I gave him a prep for this game today.
00:41 I thought they did their defense play well.
00:44 Gave us a look that we didn't really, we were prepared for.
00:49 I just did a lot of good stuff.
00:52 We didn't do a lot of good things to, to, to
00:56 get out of the thing that we should have.
00:58 >> We're off the floor for questions.

01:02 >> Coach McNair, we talked early Monday about going into these type of games and
01:06 closing out the season.
01:08 You talked about preparing this week.
01:11 Did you see anything in preparation for the game that may have gave you pause?
01:18 Or as you alluded to, the game plan that Texas Southern put out was a little
01:23 different than what you prepared for.
01:24 >> Yeah, it's coming into it.
01:25 I thought we prepared for some of the things that it was gonna do to us,
01:28 offensive and defensive.
01:30 But I think they threw a couple more wickets in it than we didn't prepare for.
01:34 We did a reverse pass, we had a touchdown.
01:37 Then they had a couple big plays and all that kind of stuff.
01:40 You might come up and coach.
01:43 So I thought we did some good stuff, did some good stuff offensively.
01:47 Defensive time, basic structure in the second half of it.
01:50 But I thought we was prepared to play a good football team.
01:56 This is a game that I felt that they came out and did some good stuff against us.
02:00 And it was a wonderful game.
02:03 Credit those guys on that side of the field for
02:07 the things they did so well, score a lot of points.
02:11 >> I apologize, Dr.
02:12 Bill Insider, ACU Sports Rep.
02:14 >> Yes, sir.
02:16 >> Charles Bishop, Dr. Bill Insider, HBCU Sports Rep.
02:19 Coach, last week, big sort of emotional rivalry game against Southern.
02:23 Do you think that might have played a part in coming in today's game?
02:28 >> Not really, we've been prepared just like any other.
02:31 We've been prepared for Southern, had a great game against Southern.
02:35 Prepared for Texas the same way.
02:37 We always prepare to play a good football team.
02:40 We're just going to, any given day, misconduct,
02:43 we're going to make each other's butt beat like we did tonight.
02:46 In terms of what we could've done, what we should've done.
02:50 But that's not to be misunderstood.
02:52 Credit those guys on that side over there, the coaches over there for
02:55 having a good game plan together.
02:57 I think they did a great job executing in terms of what they're supposed to do.
03:02 >> Coach, were you surprised that your guys started to lose composure
03:06 with the personal fouls?
03:08 >> No, I thought it was a good game.
03:09 Every game we played is a chip game.
03:11 But I think the guys were just pressing themselves,
03:15 trying to make something happen.
03:17 And then you can't get out of character, that's the biggest thing.
03:20 Quarterback got a personal foul, that's not his game.
03:23 You make a bad play, you move on.
03:27 But you don't come over and brush against another player like that.
03:30 No teach that at all.
03:32 That's not a Southern thing we do.
03:34 I think some of the guys was out of character earlier in the game.
03:36 I'm telling you, I think some of them did.
03:38 But the one guy ejected- >> Was that number 46?
03:43 >> 46, yeah.
03:45 But they caught him coming, the play was still alive.
03:50 So the ball was dead.
03:56 And I expect the same thing.
03:59 The other guy could pick the ball up any time, but I knew he'd do it.
04:02 And that's what he did.
04:04 But I'm telling you, I'm going to be, I'm going to be, but
04:08 it was about this, I got to continue playing.
04:10 >> What was your message to your team after the loss to Texas Southern?
04:16 >> Well, big things, I mean, we played a good football team.
04:19 I mean, give them credit.
04:20 But we just can't let that one loss turn into two.
04:24 We got the team, play a good team, come out and
04:26 beat Texas State, it'll be a short week.
04:29 We travel back in the morning, day off tomorrow, and
04:32 then Tuesday we get back in, just a short week to prepare for the football team.
04:38 So that's a test head up.
04:40 I think the guys and coaches are up to it, to make it all work out,
04:44 to go get you coming, trying to win a good football team.
04:47 >> I have one follow up question.
04:49 Dr. Mills inside the HBCU Sports Lab.
04:51 Just in terms of the game, obviously the first half is what it is, and
04:55 you try to make a comeback in the second half, but you come out and it's raining.
05:00 How much of a challenge does that make in trying to make up the point differential
05:04 in a game like this when you fall back that far behind?
05:06 >> We went back and took the football.
05:08 Of course, when they got up, they did a great job stopping us in the running game.
05:12 But when you come out in the second half and it's raining, and
05:15 all that kind of stuff, it's kind of tough on the quarterback.
05:17 They only had three plays in the goal line down there.
05:21 I think the ball kind of got away from them all three times.
05:24 Hey, why don't we see what's up?
05:25 So I told them to get the field going, just to put some more points on the board.
05:31 But it's always tough to throw the ball when the weather is like that,
05:36 when it's raining.
05:36 But when you find a way to just have some offense, and
05:40 I thought we did a pretty decent job of continuing to throw the ball.
05:44 We did good.
05:46 All in all, it's been a heck of a game.
05:50 Heck of a game.
