Transcript
00:00 Let's take a look at some of the Pantos being staged in Leeds this festive season,
00:06 and Christmas shows, be they Christmas related or shows taking place before and after the
00:11 big day. Depending on when you're watching this, we've just included details of when
00:16 the show runs in Till, with full details for all productions available online and at each
00:21 venue.
00:22 Let's start at the Carriageworks Theatre within the Electric Press, just by Millennium
00:27 Square, and when the vain Wicked Queen realises that she's no longer the fairest in the land,
00:33 she seeks revenge against her beautiful stepdaughter. Snow White runs through to the 7th of January
00:39 2024.
00:41 Also at the Carriageworks is Sorry Christmas Is Cancelled, Katie Saves The Day, an interactive
00:48 seasonal treat running until the 31st of December, and Pantomime Jack and the Beanstalk, which
00:53 is being staged between the 19th and 27th of January. The theatre's production of A
00:59 Christmas Carol is sold out.
01:03 Robin Hood, the Rock and Roll Panto, will be staged at the City Varieties Music Hall
01:08 until the 7th of January. Described as a "very different format to the traditional Christmas
01:13 pantomime", it mixes traditional elements of audience participation and corny gags with
01:18 a jukebox full of classic rock anthems and chart-toppers.
01:23 Northern Ballet are bringing The Nutcracker to the Leeds Grand Theatre, with Clara swept
01:28 away by her Nutcracker Prince against the backdrop of an enchanting winter wonderland.
01:34 It runs until the 10th of December.
01:40 Elf the Musical is arriving at the First Direct Arena on the 27th and 28th of December. The
01:46 hit Hollywood blockbuster film has been transformed into a live arena spectacular, with Buddy
01:52 the Elf navigating the real world as the North Pole's biggest misfit.
02:00 Snowed In by Anatomical is being performed at the Riley Theatre at the Northern School
02:05 of Contemporary Dance in Chapel Town on the 20th and 21st of December. Four friends wake
02:11 up to find that they are completely snowed in, and a magnificent adventure unfolds in
02:15 a playful and interactive family show.
02:24 Lionel Bart's award-winning musical Oliver will be at the Leeds Playhouse until the 27th
02:29 of January. Based on the novel by Charles Dickens, it follows the story of a small boy
02:34 with a big heart as he journeys from a desolate workhouse to the paved streets of Victorian
02:40 London in search of love and a place to call home.
02:47 The venue is also staging The Enormous Crocodile through to the 6th of January. It's a new
02:52 musical version of Roald Dahl's picture book, featuring tasty tunes and mischievous puppets
