00:00 We are also helping to save rice and update on the supply and price of the main products.
00:07 I am joined by the Department of Agriculture spokesperson, Asek Arnel Demesa. Good morning and welcome to my news.
00:15 Good morning JP and Connie to all who are listening and watching. Good morning.
00:20 Asek, I have been asked before by the former senator and now President BBM,
00:27 about the sale of half rice because billions of rice are being wasted every year.
00:38 What are the concrete steps that we are talking about?
00:42 That's right Connie and JP. About 10 grams or two tablespoons per person is being wasted.
00:52 That's about 385,000 metric tons a year. That's a lot and we can feed a lot of people.
00:58 So National Rice Awareness Month is one of the programs, I might say, as part of our awareness program.
01:08 The focus is not only on production of our farmers.
01:14 Our awareness campaign should be for consumers and food, whether it's at home or in the kitchen,
01:23 that we should eat enough and cook what we can finish so we won't waste.
01:32 A lot of rice and rice grains are being wasted.
01:35 If there are people who are extra rice, there are also people who are half rice.
01:38 But not all are selling half rice.
01:41 What do you think of this former senator and now President BBM, is he supportive of fill rice?
01:48 Yes. He is supportive of the action because there are individuals who cannot finish a cup of rice.
01:59 If there is a half cup available in all the restaurants, hotels, it will be better at large for our country.
02:10 But some people are forced to have one cup because of the high price of rice.
02:16 Is the price and supply of rice stable in our country?
02:21 Yes. Our supply is stable. Our local production is good. We haven't experienced much typhoon in the past few years.
02:30 We can expect record harvest this year, more than 20 million metric tons plus our additional imports.
02:39 We can expect a solid national stock inventory of rice.
02:44 Asek, it has been raining and the weather is bad in some parts of the country.
02:50 What are the expected supply and price of agricultural commodities, especially in the provinces that were hit by the typhoon?
02:58 The holiday season is coming. Asek?
03:01 We are okay with rice. We can expect more than 300,000 metric tons of local production for this year.
03:13 Plus the imports that were programmed last month.
03:18 For chickens, our production is very good. For eggs, it's good.
03:24 We have more than 36 million eggs per day that our commercial layer produces.
03:29 Aside from this, our native chickens.
03:34 Our vegetables are good, except for potatoes that were affected by the typhoon. They are harvesting this November and December.
03:43 The price is starting to fall.
03:47 On onions, it's a bit higher, about P10 per kilo.
03:52 Even though our imported red onions are stable at P140 per kilo.
03:58 Asek, how is the reorganization of the Department of Agriculture that was done by our new Agriculture Secretary?
04:07 Yes. Our chief of staff is new because he is very important as the trust and confidence of our government.
04:18 Asek Gibara was appointed as the Executive Director of the Department of Agriculture because Asek Cristine Evangelista passed away.
04:29 Our attache in Korea and Japan, Aleli Maguirang, was appointed as a non-resident attache in Palau Island and Marshall Island.
04:42 Thank you very much for your time, Department of Agriculture Secretary, our spokesperson, Asek Arnel Demesa.
04:50 Thank you very much, JP and Connie. Long live to you.
