00:02 - I am Sandra Stanley,
00:04 and I volunteer at the City of Refuge.
00:07 Almost 10 years ago, I heard about it,
00:10 and I heard that they brought busloads of children
00:14 in to feed them, and I wanted to be part of that.
00:19 The City of Refuge provides food,
00:22 provides clothing when needed, housing.
00:25 Too many to name, really,
00:26 what the City of Refuge in Dalton, Georgia does
00:29 for this community.
00:31 We work with moms and their children,
00:34 and help them to regain their hope,
00:37 regain stability, give them purpose,
00:40 and give them the opportunity to be self-sustaining,
00:44 and have a good future.
00:47 - Hola.
00:48 - Hola.
00:49 - Hola.
00:49 Are we dancing?
00:50 Huh?
00:51 - We also meet their emotional needs as well,
00:54 by providing support group services,
00:57 life skills classes, educational classes,
01:00 at no cost to them.
01:02 We serve 4,500 units of service per month.
01:06 - We're able to provide food services
01:07 to those who can't make it to the food.
01:09 - You guys ready to build some boxes?
01:11 Let's go, let's go.
01:13 - We bag these food items up,
01:14 and we deliver those to the community about twice a week.
01:17 There's no shortage of need in community these days,
01:20 and not just in Dalton,
01:21 but around the country, around the world.
01:24 And the lines for needs are not shrinking,
01:26 they're only getting larger.
01:27 - It's a blessing to the people
01:29 that City of Refuge serves.
01:31 It's also a blessing to the people that get to be here,
01:34 serving people,
01:35 because we wouldn't have an opportunity to do that.
01:38 - I'm a mother of five children,
01:40 and I come here to take classes.
01:43 I really love this place.
01:44 They're the best.
01:46 They help a lot.
01:47 A lot of families and people that need help.
01:49 - Well, Sandy is absolutely one of the most giving,
01:52 dedicated people I have ever met.
01:55 She was a single mother of six children.
01:59 So she knows the struggles that these mothers deal with.
02:02 The mothers love her, the children love her,
02:05 the community loves her,
02:07 and the City of Refuge loves Sandy.
02:10 - What do I get out of it?
02:12 Oh, the love.
02:14 The love for these little kids.
02:16 That's what I get out of it.
02:18 When those little kids hug you,
02:20 that's priceless.
02:22 Just priceless.
