00:02 I'm here at Samsung's pop-up store for Unpacked,
00:07 and today I'm checking out a bunch of new devices
00:09 they just announced.
00:10 With me here right now is the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5.
00:14 There are some big changes here with the phone,
00:16 and I'm gonna go hands-on, check it out,
00:18 tell you what's new, what's different,
00:19 and what's cool about it.
00:21 All right, so the first thing to me that stands out
00:28 is right in the front.
00:29 It's the new cover display, and this is a big change
00:32 because last year's phone, it had a tinier display.
00:34 So yes, it was great for notifications
00:37 and some other widgets, but when it comes to using the phone,
00:40 you're kinda limited with that.
00:42 It's a larger cover display.
00:43 It's a 3.4-inch Super AMOLED display
00:46 and has Gorilla Glass on top.
00:47 It looks super sharp.
00:48 The cool thing I like about it is that
00:50 not only do you get more widgets, but just a bigger screen.
00:53 I should do a lot more stuff.
00:55 You also get support for some apps.
00:57 I wanna stress that, some apps, not all the apps,
01:00 whereas with another phone, like the Razer Plus,
01:03 where you have the ability to actually run full apps
01:05 through the cover display,
01:06 you're not gonna get that functionality quite here
01:08 with the Z Flip 5, but still, a nice big upgrade.
01:12 As far as what you could use, as far as those other apps,
01:15 not just the widgets.
01:16 So right now you have most of the Google stuff.
01:17 You have Netflix and WhatsApp.
01:19 If I open up the phone here,
01:21 are right now the only supported apps for that.
01:24 Unfortunately, I see support for other apps
01:27 beyond this here.
01:28 That's something that Samsung's gonna determine,
01:30 which kinda limits its functionality,
01:32 but I guess it's a good start.
01:33 So hopefully they get more,
01:35 just because it's kinda limited with its functionality.
01:38 So what I like about this year's model
01:45 is that there are zero gaps.
01:46 It's a gapless design with the Z Flip 5.
01:50 This time around, it's flush.
01:52 It might not be a big thing for some people,
01:53 but when it comes to innovation, it's the next step up.
01:57 And that's great news for the device.
01:59 However, I will tell you that the water resistance
02:01 is still the same.
02:02 IPX8, not terrible.
02:04 It's still water resistant to some degree,
02:06 and still won the class-leading ratings
02:08 on any smartphone out there with a foldable design.
02:10 And the last thing I love about the Z Flip 5
02:16 is that it's even better for content creators,
02:19 because yes, I talked about the display,
02:21 the larger display on the outside,
02:22 but it's useful if you're doing a lot of vlogging,
02:25 a lot of self-recordings,
02:26 because here, check that out.
02:28 Last year's phone, you have a lot smaller display.
02:32 So if you're shooting right in front of it,
02:34 and you're using the phone to do a vlog,
02:37 you're not gonna see a whole lot.
02:38 Sometimes, usually, it cuts off the sides, it's cropped.
02:41 Kind of hard to see from a distance of,
02:43 let's say, like three or four feet.
02:45 But with the new version here,
02:47 you can see you get the larger screen,
02:49 so the larger screen will be able to see more of your shot,
02:51 more better composition,
02:53 and for content creators that are into
02:56 shooting a bunch of different video content,
02:58 even photos, it's a lot handier.
03:01 And because you have a larger screen here,
03:03 it just makes it a lot more suitable
03:05 to capture content for yourself.
03:07 So what do you guys think?
03:08 Let me know in the comments.
03:09 It's gonna be available shortly for 1,000 bucks,
03:12 so check that out.
03:13 If you wanna learn more about any stuff
03:14 I talked in this video,
03:15 keep an eye out on our full review soon.
03:18 Make sure to follow us on Twitter,
03:20 Instagram, Facebook, and TikTok.
03:22 I'm John B., and I'll see you in my next video.
