00:00 Welcome to Couch Surfing, the show where our stellar guests
00:02 look back at their big roles, their little roles,
00:04 and everything in between.
00:05 I'm here with Joe Mazzello.
00:08 Joe.
00:08 - Hello.
00:09 - Hello.
00:10 You ready?
00:11 - How are you?
00:12 No.
00:13 (laughing)
00:13 - Let's see what's on.
00:14 - I got older.
00:19 - You did.
00:20 You grew up.
00:21 - Hey, Rami.
00:21 - Is that Rami?
00:22 - Yeah, I saw him.
00:23 I was hanging out with him today.
00:24 - Really?
00:25 - Yeah, we were doing press today for Bohemian Rhapsody.
00:27 - Okay, so.
00:28 - We're together all the time.
00:30 - He's your comrade in this scene,
00:31 and you obviously have gone on to work with him again.
00:34 Were you guys immediately friends?
00:37 - On the set of this?
00:38 No, our relationship sort of escalated
00:41 where we became really, really close by the end of it.
00:44 In the earlier stuff, I was close with some
00:46 of the other guys a little bit more.
00:48 And it sort of went as our characters went,
00:50 where as our characters got closer
00:52 and we got more scenes together, we became closer.
00:56 And then by the end of it,
00:57 he was one of my best friends.
00:59 - What was your mind frame like going through this period?
01:02 - This was the hardest job I've ever done.
01:04 - I would imagine.
01:05 - My grandfather served in the Pacific.
01:07 - Is that right?
01:08 - And he passed away
01:08 when we were shooting episode seven of the show.
01:11 So I was in Australia when he passed away.
01:12 And it was something that was very personal for me
01:15 because, again, I was playing a real person
01:17 who had passed away,
01:18 but I just felt such an obligation to his family,
01:21 to all the Marines, to everyone in the armed forces
01:24 who served, and to my own grandfather.
01:27 (whooshing)
