00:02 Good sleep habits are crucial for your mental well-being.
00:08 First, be consistent.
00:10 Try to turn in at the same time each night
00:13 and make sure your room is quiet, dark, relaxing,
00:16 and the right temperature.
00:18 The ideal temperature is 65 degrees Fahrenheit,
00:21 although that will vary a few degrees
00:23 depending on the person.
00:24 Cleveland Clinic sleep specialist, Michelle Dreerup,
00:27 says it's always best to avoid large meals,
00:30 caffeine, and alcohol in the hours before bed.
00:33 Trying to think about how can I make myself
00:36 more prepared for sleep versus doing things
00:39 that take away from sleepiness.
00:41 Instead of that afternoon nap, go for a walk or jog.
00:45 Exercise can make it easier to fall asleep.
00:48 Following a healthy diet can also improve
00:50 the quality of your sleep.
00:52 Above all, Dr. Dreerup urges people
00:54 to stick to their normal bedtime
00:56 and not stress too much about the time change.
00:58 The more things you try, typically,
01:01 the more anxiety people have about it
01:03 and it actually is more disruptive to sleep.
01:06 So the more things I'm doing
01:07 to try to get a good night of sleep.
01:09 So let it kind of just naturally occur.
01:12 Talk to your healthcare provider
01:13 if you are continually struggling
01:15 to get a good night's sleep.
01:16 For AccuWeather, I'm Jeff Cornish.
