00:00 Let's talk about this file with our guest from Riyadh, Alvaro Lariou, President of the
00:04 United Nations Agricultural Development Fund.
00:07 Welcome to us.
00:09 Let's start by introducing the viewers to the investments of this fund.
00:15 If you could give us a brief overview of the investments of the United Nations Agricultural
00:20 Development Fund, where it is distributed and what is its size, at least in the first
00:25 nine months of this year.
00:26 Well, thank you very much for having me.
00:35 I'd like to introduce the Fund, which is a financial institution that provides concessional
00:43 loan for agricultural projects.
00:44 We provide almost 90 countries with loans.
00:47 We focus on food security, but we are not very much on rural areas.
00:53 80% of the poor are found globally in these rural areas.
00:58 Our reserves are about $8 billion, excuse me, $80 billion, and we have investments of
01:07 $24 billion.
01:08 We invest in more than one country, with governments and also with multilateral development banks
01:13 such as the African Development Bank and the International Bank.
01:16 The most important thing for us is to work with the poor communities in the rural areas
01:23 and to ensure that they have a good life for men and women and children equally, and to
01:29 help them provide food security and adapt to the extreme weather.
01:33 Does this mean that most of these investments today are in the African continent or in different
01:40 geographic areas?
01:41 So, 60% of our core investments in fact are in the African continent.
01:47 We also are concentrating on two types of investment.
01:51 We are borrowing from investors and we are also investing in the middle income countries
01:58 such as China, India, Colombia, and Brazil.
02:01 And so, we are investing in all the different types of investment.
02:06 However, 80% of our resources are concentrated in the middle and low income countries.
02:12 With the approach of the COP28 in Dubai, what is your view on the impact of climate change
02:19 on food security?
02:20 And if you could just tell us about your participation in the COP?
02:25 Thank you very much.
02:36 So, the COP28 after the COP27 which was held in Egypt in this area.
02:55 And here, we are aware that the IFAD, during the COP27 in Egypt, supported the Egyptian
03:03 government's efforts to save water, energy, and food.
03:07 And that the IFAD was a leader in collecting the resources for food projects in Egypt.
03:13 And it reached a value of 3.5 billion dollars.
03:17 In the COP28, we will work with more partners and we will support more farmers and small
03:27 farmers who are affected by extreme weather phenomena, whether it is drought, flooding,
03:34 or floods, or a high water level in many small islands.
03:39 So, for us, the COP is a meeting with all partners where we meet to make sure that we
03:46 all work to save food security and reduce the impact of climate change.
03:53 As you mentioned, in terms of the climate change, it is a very important issue.
04:00 And we are aware that the climate change is a very important issue.
04:06 And we are aware that the climate change is a very important issue.
04:26 And we are aware that the climate change is a very important issue.
04:46 And we are aware that the climate change is a very important issue.
05:06 And we are aware that the climate change is a very important issue.
05:26 And we are aware that the climate change is a very important issue.
05:46 And we are aware that the climate change is a very important issue.
05:56 Thank you. We are ready for you.
