00:00 Hey folks, we just got done riding BMW's 2024 R1300GS and R1300GS Trophy Edition.
00:10 These are BMW Motorrad's top of the range adventure touring bikes for all those motorcyclists
00:17 out there who want to conquer all roads, whether that's on road or off road.
00:23 Now BMW's GS series adventure bikes, they have a long history.
00:27 BMW originally introduced this model to the US market in the 1981 model year with its
00:35 GS R80.
00:37 Fast forward 43 years and we have this 2024 R1300GS.
00:44 Let's start with the engine.
00:45 This vehicle is powered by BMW's legendary 1300cc boxer twin engine.
00:52 BMW Motorrad has been manufacturing this engine configuration for over a century in Germany.
00:59 Now this particular engine displaces 1300cc.
01:03 It has more radical bore stroke measurements versus its predecessor, the R1250GS.
01:11 Now specifically the bore on this engine is a lot bigger.
01:15 If you can even believe it, the diameter of the pistons in this engine measures over 4
01:20 inches.
01:21 It literally has two coffee can pistons strumming and giving it crazy amounts of power.
01:28 BMW Motorrad says that this engine is good for 145 horsepower at the crank, but we expect
01:34 right around 123 ponies at the business end of the 17 inch Metzeler tire.
01:40 Now this R1300GS continues to roll on BMW's signature wheel combo, 19 inch front and 17
01:46 inch rear wheel size.
01:48 Now in the modern ADV world, a lot of manufacturers are using 21/18 inch wheel setups, but BMW
01:55 Motorrad has near perfected its 19/17 combo.
02:00 You'd be amazed how capable this vehicle is, not only on the road, but off it as well.
02:06 Now BMW's done some really nice modifications to its telelever and paralever rear suspensions.
02:14 Now telelever is really neat because it actually separates the steering and the damping functions
02:20 of the front suspension.
02:21 It allows this 523 pound motorcycle to be extremely light and extremely agile with wheels
02:28 spinning.
02:29 It also gives really favorable damping response, whether you're riding on broken beat up pavement
02:35 or you're riding on smooth ribbons of asphalt carving turns.
02:40 Now as usual, this motorcycle also has BMW's signature paralever rear suspension.
02:46 Now what that does is it combines suspension and rear power delivery duties into one combination
02:54 setup.
02:55 It works really well.
02:56 You'd be amazed at how well this motorcycle just rides over bumps.
03:00 If you're looking for a motorcycle that just delivers you to where you want to go in an
03:05 extreme level of comfort, this R1300GS will do that.
03:09 Yet at the same time, when you're riding this bike off road, this motorcycle feels like
03:14 you're riding a big 450cc dirt bike.
03:17 The ergonomics are right where you want them to be.
03:20 The motorcycle is easy to squeeze with your legs.
03:23 The handlebar is nice and wide and upright.
03:25 And it's a very easy motorcycle to operate in difficult conditions.
03:31 Now in this particular press introduction, we didn't really ride anything too gnarly.
03:35 It was pretty PG off road terrain.
03:38 But this motorcycle is very capable of taking you off the beaten path and taking you places
03:45 where you'd think you'd need a 450cc dirt bike.
03:48 So good job BMW.
03:49 We are really glad that you're paying attention to details and offering a motorcycle that
03:54 is so versatile.
03:56 Now in terms of electronics, as usual, this R1300GS has all the bells and whistles.
04:03 It's got heated grips, heated seat, cruise control, adaptive cruise control.
04:08 There's actually radar mounted in the front of the vehicle, which sends out radar rays
04:14 to the object in front of you and is able to calculate the distance between your motorcycle
04:19 and the vehicle in front of you.
04:21 It's actually able to pace those vehicles just like a new car would.
04:25 That same radar hardware also powers a setup where this vehicle has front end collision
04:32 mitigation.
04:33 So let's say you're following a vehicle in front of you and all of a sudden the vehicle
04:36 deaccelerates suddenly.
04:38 Well, the BMW R1300GS has logic inside where it will actually apply the brakes for you
04:45 to help mitigate a collision.
04:47 Now it's not a fail safe for preventing accidents, but it's just one level of technology to help
04:54 riders stay safe on the road.
04:55 You never know what life's going to bring you when you're out on the road.
04:58 Maintenance wise, these BMW Motorrad R1300GSs are built tough.
05:05 Now after the initial 750 mile service, this particular motorcycle goes 6,000 miles between
05:12 engine oil changes and oil filter changes.
05:15 And it goes 12,000 miles every time you have to change the fluid inside that drive shaft.
05:22 Valve adjustment intervals also at 12,000 miles.
05:25 So you know when you buy a BMW Motorrad vehicle, it's going to be there for the distance.
05:31 Overall, there's a lot to like about BMW's 2024 R1300GS.
05:37 Realistically, they didn't reinvent the wheel on this bike.
05:40 The engine is smoother, it has less vibration, it's more powerful, yet it still gets over
05:47 40 miles per gallon if you can even believe it.
05:50 I can't believe how good of fuel mileage this bike gets.
05:53 It still has that kind of power and engine charisma and character.
05:57 Overall, if you're looking for a very, very capable and versatile adventure touring bike,
06:03 I think this R1300GS is going to check a lot of boxes for you.
06:08 It's fast, it's comfortable, it's smooth, it's built in such a way.
06:14 Few motorcycle manufacturers manufacture quality motorcycles like BMW and its R1300GS.
06:21 And it stands behind it with a three-year, 36,000-mile warranty in the Americas with
06:27 roadside assistance.
06:29 Well, folks, that wraps up our official review of BMW's R1300GS.
