Congress MLA candidate Archana Sharma defends state govt while campaigning in Jaipur

  • last year
Archana Sharma, the Congress candidate from Jaipur’s Malviya Nagar constituency in the upcoming Rajasthan assembly polls, defended the Ashok-Gelhot government over the allegations over rising crime against women in the state and failing to tackle the water crisis.

Talking to Outlook’s Shreya Basak on the campaign trail, Sharma said the government had expedited cases of crime against women, while accusing the centre of not cooperating with Rajasthan government’s water-related projects. The Congress candidate alleged that her main opponent, BJP’s three-time sitting MLA Kalicharan Saraf, had “institutionalised” corruption in the constituency.

00:00 Currently we are in Jaipur, the capital city of Rajasthan, the state that is going into
00:04 the polls in another three weeks.
00:07 The state will see a very close contest between the BJP and the Congress, which are fighting
00:11 for the 200 assembly seats.
00:13 Many candidates have already started fielding their nominations and yesterday we spoke to
00:18 one such candidate from Congress, Archana Sharma, who is fighting for the Malviya Nagar.
00:22 Archana Sharma started her campaign on August 11 by launching the Vikas Sankranti Yatra.
00:29 In 2018, she lost the assembly election to the opposition BJP candidate Kali Charan Sharma.
00:34 However, recently she levied allegations against the sitting MLA Sharma that the JNU Congress
00:41 has taken a lot of corruption charges and a lot of mafia works.
00:48 However, she speaks to us of the rising voter prices of Rajasthan and the recent allegations
00:55 that Rajasthan has a lot of crimes against women.
00:59 I think the problem is that there are no crimes against women.
01:06 The rule for crime is that there is a discrimination.
01:09 I don't say that there are no crimes against women.
01:12 Once a crime is committed, the insurance is not a justice process or experience.
01:16 It is the only state which, whether it is an insurance or a crime that is committed against
01:21 women, then it is a solution for the police department to register that complaint.
01:27 In case if it doesn't, then the SP has to be made an only defense.
01:31 We want to ensure that once a crime is registered, the process of justice is expected.
01:37 There are several reports in Rajasthan that women take a lot of money from their wives.
01:45 What are your comments on that?
01:47 Yes, there is a crisis throughout the world.
01:51 In Rajasthan, we are ensuring that the ERCP project becomes a national project, but the
01:56 central government is not cooperating in that sense.
01:58 So, our government has already issued a budget of around 8,000 crores.
02:02 Next time when we talk to the government, we will ensure that this budget is completed.
02:07 And ma'am, if you win the election, what message would you like to bring to the constituents
02:12 that when you are working in Mali and other big fires, which is like, you see the previous
02:18 MLA parties have been very strong, but the last few times, he has institutionalized corruption
02:24 in the country.
02:26 He never favors the public.
02:29 He actually used the mandate of his own party to pursue an election.
02:33 So, this time people have realized that how can the government take it to heart.
02:37 There was a petition of 40,000 crores for the people and many different work will be
02:42 done and we will ensure that it goes on.
02:45 Thank you.
02:46 Thank you.
02:47 Thank you.
02:48 Thank you.
