00:02 - I've had the privilege of covering
00:09 some of the most fascinating and scandalous
00:13 and mind-blowingly cheeky crime stories
00:17 from across the country this year.
00:19 And I recommend if you have a chance to do the same,
00:22 you should take it.
00:23 - Over the past 12 months,
00:24 I've covered everything from climate change,
00:26 politics, agriculture, and so much more in between.
00:30 - You become a storyteller,
00:32 you'll get thrown into the deep end,
00:34 and that's what you want as an early career journalist.
00:38 - You get to report on a broader range of topics
00:40 than you will at probably any other point
00:42 in your career, really.
00:43 So this year I've reported on court and crime,
00:47 breaking news, sport, arts, other general news,
00:50 and topics of national relevance as well,
00:52 like the Hunter Valley bus crash, fire and flooding.
00:55 - I got to go to Sydney
00:57 for the New South Wales state election.
00:58 - I think throughout my first month here,
01:00 I probably learned more than I did
01:02 in my entire university degree,
01:04 so it's absolutely worth it,
01:05 and I think it's probably the best way
01:07 to kickstart your journalism career.
01:09 - And this year I've covered everything
01:11 from court to local government to state politics
01:15 to human interest stories,
01:17 and that breadth of experience
01:18 has just given me a really good foundation
01:20 to start my career as a journalist.
