00:00 83% of teachers involved in the Education Union voted in favour of taking strike next
00:08 Thursday if their demands cannot be met by the State Government.
00:13 At the moment they have a deal on the table, a 9% increase over a three year period including
00:19 a one-off payment.
00:21 The Education Union is saying that that is not enough.
00:25 They have said that teachers have not had a pay rise in 18 months and considering the
00:31 economic environment at the moment, the Union is saying that that deal by the State Government
00:37 is simply insufficient.
00:39 The Union have given the Government until Monday to come up with a better deal, one
00:44 that they are saying is more suitable for the teachers and if they don't come up with
00:51 that better deal by Monday, that's when they will go ahead with this strike on Thursday.
00:57 The Government have said that it is disappointing that the Union is potentially taking strike
01:04 next Thursday, particularly considering Year 12 exams are currently happening.
01:09 The Union says that students involved in those exams won't be affected if this strike does
01:15 take place.
01:16 The Government have said that they will be working and are committed to delivering a
01:22 revised and improved option for the Education Union, which they will be delivering to them
01:31 on Monday.
01:32 So all eyes, no doubts, will be keeping an eye on Monday and deciding to see whether
01:40 the teachers will be taking strike.
