00:00 If aliens really existed, some scientists wonder why they haven't reached Earth or
00:07 made contact yet.
00:09 Science Alert reports that it could be because "it's too expensive for extraterrestrials
00:13 to visit our planet."
00:14 Think about it in terms of our history of space exploration.
00:17 Sending astronauts to the moon during the Apollo program cost $25.4 billion, or about
00:23 $150 billion in today's money, according to CNN.
00:26 Even before that, Project Mercury and Project Gemini cost about $2.3 and $10 billion, respectively.
00:33 And that's from June 1958 to 1972.
00:36 Now we have Project Artemis, which will cost about $30 billion over the next four years.
00:40 That's a lot of money just to get to our own moon, so the cost of interstellar missions
00:44 would be astronomical.
00:46 Not to mention, we don't know whether interstellar travel is even feasible or practical for an
00:50 alien civilization.
00:51 And they might not even be motivated to colonize other star systems.
