00:00 Some of the brightest young minds in the country are here today sharing their space themed STEM creations as part of an Australian first competition aimed at inspiring more kids to get involved in the industry.
00:13 They've come up with some incredible ideas including home building rovers, microgravity exercise domes, bushfire shelters for animals which use satellites to detect high risk areas and even how to send their teacher to live a happy and healthy life on the moon.
00:29 He wants to get away from us basically. He doesn't want to teach us anymore so we made this for him to get away.
00:37 They don't like me, they want to send me away which is alright, I'll go live on the moon by myself. So they've designed me ways to eat, ways to get water, it's an entertainment thing so yeah they've done a really good job.
00:49 They said it was the other way around that you didn't like them and that's why you had to go to the moon.
00:53 It probably goes both ways, no.
00:56 About 10,000 students across 70 schools took part in the challenge with each school provided with a custom space challenge course, 3D printer and resources to build their prototypes.
01:07 It's been months in the making but it's all finishing up right here where teams from the Northern Territory and Victoria have been crowned joint winners for their designs which tackle growing food in space with hydroponic systems and finding safer ways to traverse Cahill's Crossing.
01:23 It feels good and I'm excited.
01:28 Eventually we hope to see every face in this room working alongside us but in the meantime we're hoping that these students will take these solutions back to their community, empower their community with the understanding of what space can do for earth and share that knowledge with everyone that they meet in the next couple of years.
01:42 Bringing the next generation's passion and creativity to the forefront of STEM ideas and solutions.
01:49 Keep in space!
