00:05 hundreds of Hamas targets in the north and south of the Strip.
00:10 As Ukraine claims a successful strike on Russian air defences in Crimea using American-supplied
00:16 missiles, fallen soldiers are remembered in a race.

00:24 on them during the recent energy crisis, according to a new report.
00:31 Iranian lawyer and human rights activist arrested during a funeral for teenager Amita Gheravand
00:37 in Tehran.
00:44 Israel has ramped up its operations in Gaza with a probing raid led by tanks into the
00:48 outskirts of Gaza City.
00:50 Tanks are said to have advanced on two sides, reportedly blocking the main north-south highway.
00:56 A video on social media appeared to show a tank firing on a car in the area.
01:01 Gaza health officials said three people had been killed, but this hasn't been independently
01:05 confirmed.
01:07 Air strikes have continued to pound the north of the Strip, but targets were also hit in
01:12 Rafa in the south.
01:13 The Israeli defence forces say they killed dozens of Hamas militants in the latest attacks.
01:18 More than 8,000 Palestinians, mostly civilians, have been killed since the IDF launched its
01:24 offensive in response to Hamas' brutal raids on Israel on October 7.
01:29 Some 1,400 Israelis have been killed.
01:36 With the numbers of Palestinians displaced growing daily, conditions are worsening.
01:41 With essential supplies cut, people have been using donkey carts to distribute water.
01:48 Ukraine says it's carried out a successful strike on a Russian air defence system in
02:00 Crimea.
02:01 Footage from 2020 shows American soldiers using the Army Tactical Missile System, or
02:06 ATA-CMS.
02:07 Ukraine says it used the same system in Sunday's strike.
02:12 China, Russia's defence minister, accused the U.S. of fuelling geopolitical tensions.
02:17 "The sharp crisis in Europe is provoked by the West's desire to spread the potential
02:24 for conflict in the Asia-Pacific region.
02:26 At the same time, the West's line to the unyielding escalation of conflict with Russia poses a
02:31 threat of direct military confrontation of nuclear powers.
02:35 This is a catastrophic consequence."
02:41 On Sunday, injured veterans were the first to cross the start line in a one-kilometre
02:45 race in Kiev to commemorate the country's war dead.
02:48 Each runner chose one person to remember.
02:52 "There are a lot of hostages.
02:55 They won't be alive today, and I won't be able to shake their hands or sit with them.
03:03 But they will be here for the rest of their lives."
03:08 "It's a way of showing gratitude to everyone who defended our country.
03:14 I think it shows that we are not insignificant.
03:19 We are not afraid of what is happening now."
03:22 Thirteen thousand people registered for the race.
03:31 European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has started a four-day visit to the
03:35 Western Balkans.
03:38 It started in Skopje, where she met with President Stivo Penderovsky.
03:44 North Macedonia, Kosovo, Montenegro, Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina are at different
03:50 stages of integration into the European Union.
03:55 Von der Leyen is meeting with the country's leaders to discuss a new growth plan that
03:59 potentially opens parts of the bloc's single market to them.
04:04 Bringing the Balkans into the fold has been a priority for the 27 member states since
04:09 Russia's invasion of Ukraine last year.
04:13 "Ukraine fighting for its sovereignty and territorial integrity and for our values."
04:20 The EU plans to set aside six billion euros for investments and reforms in the six countries,
04:26 including four billion in loans and two billion in subsidies.
04:32 Access to the money is conditional.
04:35 They have to reform their economies and political institutions, which includes tackling corruption
04:41 and stamping out organised crime.
04:45 Brussels has been trying to resolve a long-running dispute between candidates Kosovo and Serbia,
04:51 whose relations have deteriorated since their war more than 20 years ago.
05:00 Fossil fuel companies across Europe have managed to weaken and delay windfall taxes imposed
05:04 on them during the recent energy crisis.
05:09 The accusation comes from a report by Fossil Free Politics, a coalition of environmental
05:13 associations that organises protests in Brussels.
05:18 And every country has a different story.
05:20 In Italy, energy giant Eni saw its net profits more than double due to rising gas prices,
05:26 but avoided a windfall tax of 25% on it, decided by the former government led by Mario Draghi.
05:32 The law was written so badly that all energy companies have appealed legally against this
05:40 law.
05:41 And so from the initial expected income, which was 11 billion euro, the actual income that
05:48 was generated by the tax was 2.8 billion.
05:51 In the Czech Republic, the owner of energy company EPH publicly threatened to move one
05:56 of his companies abroad due to the proposed windfall tax, initially designed to cover
06:01 profits made from 2022 with 100% tax for that year.
06:07 They were able to postpone the implementation of the windfall tax for 2023.
06:12 So most of their profits are not taxed by the windfall tax and also they were able to
06:19 soften it that it`s not 100%, but only 60% from 2023.
06:25 Spain also saw some troubles in the application of its windfall tax, a levy of 1.2% of company`s
06:31 revenues since 2022, when their profits increased by 35%, as this activist explains.
06:38 The EU has used this tax in an administrative context that is not yet resolved, because
06:49 what they say is that what the European Union recommended was a tax on profits and not on
06:56 income and that this harms them.
06:59 In September last year, the EU agreed on a temporary levy on fossil fuel companies, applied
07:03 on profits exceeding 20% of a company`s average.
07:07 Critics claim the tax was watered down by a fossil fuel lobbying association and put
07:11 posters on EU institutions headquarters to denounce this.
07:15 The association that represents the sector denies the accusation.
07:18 In an energy crisis, one that is linked to gas supply, I think it`s just perfectly normal
07:23 for the gas sector to engage in those discussions with the European Commission in this case.
07:31 For me, it`s common sense.
07:34 According to the report called "Cold Homes Hot Profits," there were over 200 meetings
07:38 between EU officials and fossil fuel lobbyists the year after Russia`s invasion.
07:42 Almost one meeting per working day.
07:51 Reza Kandan says his wife Nasreen Sotoudah, an Iranian lawyer and human rights defender,
07:57 has been arrested and beaten.
07:59 He says it happened during the funeral for high school student Amita Garawand, who died
08:04 in controversial circumstances in Tehran on Saturday.
08:09 Local media reports say Nasreen was detained for not wearing a veil and for disturbing
08:14 the mental security of society.
08:17 Women in Iran are required by law to cover their heads in public.
08:21 Rights activists suspect 16-year-old Amita was assaulted by the so-called morality police
08:27 on a subway car for the same offense.
08:30 Authorities have denied the allegations.
08:33 They say she fainted and hit her head.
08:36 Amita was in a coma for nearly a month before she died.
08:40 Her family has backed the official version of events.
08:48 German emergency crews were called to this construction site in Hamburg`s HafenCity on
08:52 Monday after reports that scaffolding had collapsed.
08:58 At least three people were killed.
09:00 Another is reported to have life-threatening injuries.
09:05 Several more are still missing.
09:09 Investigators say they were working inside an eight-story elevator shaft when the scaffolding
09:13 gave way.
09:15 An investigation is underway.
09:22 Former Spanish football federation president Luis Rubiales says he`ll appeal a decision
09:27 banning him from the sport for three years.
09:30 Rubiales kissed football player Jenny Humoso on the lips during the final of the FIFA Women`s
09:36 World Cup in August.
09:38 He said it was mutual, but stepped down from his role in September.
09:42 On Monday, the sport`s governing body said Rubiales had violated Article 13 of the FIFA
09:47 disciplinary code.
09:49 It relates to offensive behavior and violations of the principles of fair play.
09:54 Are you tired of swallowing advertising while chatting with friends or snooping on other
10:02 people`s lives on Facebook and Instagram?
10:06 If you live in the European Union, you can get rid of ads by paying 9.99 euros per month
10:11 if you do it with your computer, or 12.99 if you use these metasocial networks in their
10:16 mobile applications.
10:19 The platform`s owner, Meta, is introducing the option from November to comply with European
10:24 regulations which require an ad-free option.
10:32 Fans of the late Matthew Perry, paying tribute to the French star outside his on-screen New
10:36 York residence.
10:37 Perry starred as the eccentric and sarcastic Chandler Bing in all ten seasons of the iconic
10:42 U.S. sitcom.
10:43 He was found unresponsive in his L.A. home on Sunday and later pronounced dead by police.
10:48 He was such a, like, heartwarming, kind, uplifting person.
10:55 I feel like everyone could just turn on the TV and feel immediately comforted by him.
10:59 I actually watch it almost every day, so I think he brought a lot of himself into the
11:03 character and transformed it into something more than what it was, so.
11:08 While the 54-year-old was beloved for his sharp wit and goofy mannerisms on screen,
11:12 he battled addiction and serious health problems off screen, many of which he wrote about in
11:17 his memoir "Friends, Lovers and the Big Terrible Thing."
11:20 In the last year, he was at peace.
11:22 I mean, his book came out a year ago and he, you know, said on all of those interviews
11:27 that he was in such a good place at this point in his life and he had really been able to
11:32 get a hold of his demons and find a way through it.
11:35 L.A. police say an investigation has been opened into the star`s death, but foul play
11:39 has been ruled out.
11:41 He was nominated for five Emmy Awards in his lifetime.
