00:00 On social media, netizens flex their bodies.
00:06 Post here, post there.
00:11 But how can you do OOTD
00:17 if your body
00:20 is a tad bit of a keloid that doesn't just get bigger
00:25 but also grows?
00:28 [music]
00:30 Jacket is life for 19-year-old Paolo, who is a big guy.
00:35 He has something he hides that others shouldn't see.
00:39 His keloids seem to be born in abundance.
00:46 It just started in his chest,
00:50 it reached his arms,
00:53 and it reached his legs.
00:57 I was really embarrassed.
00:58 I'm not comfortable,
01:00 especially when I raise my arms,
01:04 I can see.
01:06 I wear a jacket, long sleeves,
01:09 so that they can be covered.
01:11 According to our dermatologist, Dr. Jean Marquez,
01:16 the keloid is the protruding peclet that is left on our skin
01:20 after a wound has healed.
01:23 A keloid is a scar tissue that went beyond the border
01:28 or the margin of the wound area.
01:31 When we get hurt,
01:34 for the skin to repair,
01:36 it produces what you call fibrotic tissues,
01:40 or tissues that cause itching,
01:44 or scar tissue.
01:46 For a keloid, it forms a scar tissue,
01:50 but it produces too much scar tissue.
01:54 So what happens is it becomes too protruding and spreads.
01:59 Four years ago, or when Paolo was 15 years old,
02:04 he noticed that there were tigyawat or tila butligs
02:08 on his chest and arms.
02:10 I thought it was a tigyawat.
02:12 Then, after a month, it grew a bit.
02:16 Then, I hit it with a nail.
02:19 I held it and it grew.
02:20 It was hard.
02:22 It was itching.
02:24 Then, I scrubbed it.
02:26 When I scrubbed it, it grew even more.
02:29 Until not long after,
02:32 the small tigyawat started to grow,
02:36 bloom,
02:38 and become a thorn
02:40 that looked like thorns that were piercing his body.
02:45 When his mother, Sirodelina, consulted a specialist,
02:49 she found out that the small tigyawat he thought were keloids.
02:54 I was sad.
02:56 I was afraid that it might spread to his whole body.
03:00 It looked like that.
03:02 The doctor said that they visited a doctor to have a scan of his body
03:08 and he was given steroids to thin Paolo's keloids.
03:14 But the problem was that the medicine was expensive and Paolo's keloids were not complete.
03:19 Because of this, instead of losing his keloids, he continued to gain them.
03:25 I want to lose them so that I can be confident in myself.
03:32 But aside from the appearance of his keloids,
03:36 what their mother was more worried about was Paolo's growing keloids.
03:42 Paolo was about to have cancer.
03:44 I was afraid that it might spread.
03:47 It was starting to appear on my face.
03:50 To make it clearer, we accompanied Paolo to have a consultation with Dr. Jean.
03:56 Is there a solution for growing and continuing to give birth to keloids?
04:01 Wait for it.
04:03 According to the experts, there are different shapes and shapes of keloids.
04:09 Some have a round shape, some are small and raised,
04:12 or some have a slanted shape that looks like a neck.
04:16 And some are said to be flat and have a long face.
04:21 And of course, it is important to know if this keloid is suitable for the appearance
04:25 to avoid the use of this medicine and to know what is the best solution for the pregnancy.
04:31 Meanwhile, many asked, "Doc, is it normal to have a keloid?"
04:38 The tendency to have a keloid is usually related to the pigmentation on your skin.
04:44 For example, in the race, the darker you are, the more chances of you to develop a keloid.
04:50 So because it is more common on black people, on Asians, on Latin Americans, compared to Caucasians.
05:01 Doc, is it dangerous to have a keloid?
05:06 If you get hit and you get sick, you get a wound and you get a secondary infection.
05:11 They cannot remove their shirt now in the beach, right?
05:14 It is stressful and it affects their self-confidence.
05:19 Because of the belief of others, it is normal to have a keloid.
05:24 The different beliefs of our fellow humans also came together.
05:29 Doc, is it true that a keloid is contagious?
05:33 A keloid is not an infection, it is not caused by a bacteria or a virus or a fungus.
05:39 So it is not contagious.
05:41 Is it true that the rubber band can be removed if you tie it to the keloid?
05:46 The more that you put a rubber band around it, the more that you are traumatizing the skin.
05:51 If you are traumatized, then it is possible that the keloid will grow bigger.
05:55 So it is even dangerous to put a rubber band on the keloid.
05:58 So it will not be able to help.
06:01 Is it true that a keloid is contagious?
06:03 No, actually it is not dangerous.
06:06 It just does not cause an infection.
06:09 In Montana, let's go back to Paolo.
06:14 There are so many keloids.
06:16 You can see that it is pinkish and some are reddish.
06:20 It is bigger in the areas of movement that have joints.
06:24 Because the more that you move your muscles, the more that the keloid grows.
06:30 Also on areas that have a little fat like the chest area.
06:34 It is possible that the reason for the growth and spread of the keloid is the unavoidable infection or contact with it.
06:42 When it is itchy, that means the keloid is growing or it is infected.
06:47 So what the patient will do is he will get more infected.
06:51 And the more that he will get infected, the bigger it will grow.
06:54 So it becomes a cycle.
06:58 According to Dr. Jean, the existence of keloids is beneficial.
07:02 So if you have a family history of keloid, chances are you can also develop keloid.
07:07 There is also hope that the keloids like Paolo can be cured.
07:12 One solution here is to use a carbon dioxide laser.
07:17 It is called debulking procedures.
07:20 So we want to remove the bulk of the scars of the keloid.
07:27 As soon as possible.
07:28 So that it will flatten.
07:31 So we burn it by means of carbon dioxide laser.
07:35 And then we inject corticosteroid to soften the keloid.
07:40 And then after that, we inject diluted botox or botulinum toxin injection to relax the muscles underneath.
07:49 And then after that, the patient will have to put a silicone gel to soften the keloid and to flatten it.
07:56 And there is a silicone sheet to put pressure.
07:58 So that's what we actually call triple therapy.
08:01 For those who also have keloids on their skin, Dr. Jean will remind you to avoid touching or touching it.
08:09 The keloid is already dangerous when it causes discomfort, too much pain on the skin, itch, infection.
08:18 It's causing you discomfort to a point that you cannot sleep.
08:22 It's raising your blood pressure.
08:25 So those are the warning signs that you really have to have your keloid treated.
