00:00 - What the hell's going on?
00:01 - Shut up, will ya?
00:02 - Welcome to WatchMojo.
00:03 And today we're counting down our picks
00:05 for the most glaring inconsistencies
00:07 in popular horror films.
00:09 - So if y'all wanna get crazy, we can get crazy.
00:12 - Spoilers will be revealed,
00:14 so this is your official warning.
00:16 Number 10, inconsistency in the death of Katie's mom.
00:20 Paranormal Activity franchise.
00:22 - Julie?
00:23 What's wrong?
00:27 - While adding a prequel into the franchise
00:29 can be a great way of expanding on the lore,
00:31 it also runs the risk of poking holes into past movies.
00:34 Paranormal Activity is an unfortunate victim of this.
00:38 In the original film, Mika makes a comment
00:40 about how they shouldn't invite Katie's mother over
00:42 after learning about a presence
00:44 that feeds off of dark energy.
00:45 - You shouldn't let your mother come over anymore.
00:48 - Julie.
00:49 - It's a solid joke that was accidentally ruined
00:52 years later when Paranormal Activity 3 came out.
00:55 Katie's mother dies at the end of the prequel,
00:57 meaning she had been dead years before the two had even met.
01:00 It's hard to believe that Mika wouldn't know this
01:02 about his partner,
01:03 which makes his joke either extremely dark or nonsensical.
01:07 - What happened to mommy?
01:08 - Julie, come here.
01:10 - Number nine, Chucky Doesn't Bleed, Curse of Chucky.
01:13 Given that this series is about a murderous doll,
01:16 it makes sense that the viewers
01:18 would suspend their disbelief.
01:19 - The heart, shoot him in the heart.
01:21 - However, it can be hard to ignore
01:23 when sequels randomly change major attributes
01:25 about the main character.
01:26 Throughout the series, whenever the doll was killed,
01:29 he would show physical signs of injury,
01:31 primarily bleeding.
01:33 However, in 2013's Curse of Chucky,
01:35 the doll is stabbed
01:37 and white stuffing comes out instead of blood.
01:39 (Chucky grunts)
01:43 Not only was it a tad anticlimactic,
01:45 it took away an interesting characteristic of the villain
01:48 and reduced him to nothing more than a toy.
01:50 More importantly, as a sequel,
01:52 it should have remained consistent
01:53 with the endings of the previous films.
01:55 If it was a reboot, then it could have been forgiven.
01:59 - No one's ever gonna believe this, you know that.
02:01 - Number eight, Malus Gets a Phone Call, The Wicker Man.
02:04 - Give her a call.
02:06 - I already tried that, but guess what?
02:07 There's no phone service on Summer's Isle.
02:09 - This bizarre Nicolas Cage movie
02:11 isn't exactly known for its high quality,
02:13 and the plot holes only add to that reputation.
02:16 The most glaring issue is that it ignores the setting.
02:18 Despite being on a secluded coast
02:20 with no functioning cell service,
02:22 the protagonist is somehow able to receive a phone call
02:25 and hear the person on the other side.
02:27 They could have gone around as having Malus make the call,
02:30 as emergency numbers are still available
02:32 in areas with no cell signals.
02:33 - Pete, help us, help, please, please help.
02:38 - Instead, they decide to leave the confusing moment as is.
02:41 There are other inconsistencies as well,
02:44 both in tone and in the story.
02:46 - No, no, not the bees, not the bees.
02:49 - However, this feels the most egregious
02:51 just based on how easily it could have been avoided.
02:54 Number seven, Logan's Plan, Jigsaw.
02:57 It's common for the Saw series
02:58 to implement a last minute twist,
03:00 and Jigsaw is no exception.
03:02 - 10 years ago in this very barn,
03:04 a game was played.
03:09 - It introduces Logan, a supposed scientist
03:12 who is later exposed as both the Game Master
03:15 and one of Jigsaw's original victims.
03:17 He intends to take revenge on a detective
03:20 who let his wife's murderer go free,
03:22 and does so by recreating the game
03:24 that he had lived through.
03:25 - So now, 10 years later,
03:27 I've recreated Jigsaw's game
03:28 with criminals from your failed cases.
03:31 - However, it doesn't take much to realize
03:33 that most of his plan only works thanks to chance.
03:36 Everything would turn out completely differently
03:38 if even one element didn't go as planned,
03:41 leading people to wonder why recreating the first game
03:44 was even necessary.
03:45 He could have easily achieved the same result
03:47 with a new game.
03:48 - I speak for the dead.
03:52 - Number six, the killer is in two places at once.
03:55 High tension.
03:56 This French film is a solid thriller,
03:58 marred only by one choice,
04:00 revealing that the villain had actually been
04:02 one of the main characters the whole time.
04:04 This could have been a huge revelation
04:10 if there weren't multiple instances
04:12 of her being in another location when someone is attacked.
04:15 There are even times she interacts with the killer herself.
04:18 The filmmakers try to get around this
04:20 by showing that she's in the midst of a mental break
04:22 and therefore delusional about the events of the murders.
04:25 However, that still doesn't change the fact
04:27 that she would have had to teleport
04:28 to commit some of these crimes.
04:30 It goes to show that just because you can include
04:32 a bombshell ending doesn't mean you should.
04:35 Number five, Adelaide and the Tethered getting supplies.
04:51 The film is a bit like the first film,
04:53 but it's a bit more about us.
04:55 - They think like us.
04:56 They know where we are.
04:58 They won't stop until they kill us or we kill them.
05:02 - Jordan Peele's second film is a creepy look
05:04 at the duality of human nature,
05:06 and it leaves a lot of unanswered questions.
05:08 Some are clearly intentional,
05:10 but one of those questions feels like an oversight.
05:12 - Look.
05:13 It's the line.
05:18 - At one point, Adelaide and the Tethered
05:20 are wearing the same clothes.
05:22 That's all well and good,
05:23 except they're dressed in red jumpsuits
05:25 and carrying golden scissors.
05:27 - It's our time now.
05:29 - Where did they get these things?
05:31 Peele never gives us any kind of explanation.
05:33 They add to the intimidating look of the Tethered,
05:36 but realistically, the clones should be wearing scraps
05:39 and have no real weapons.
05:41 Number four, where did the egg come from?
05:43 "Alien 3."
05:44 In the third installment of the series,
05:46 the crew of the Sulaco is attacked by a facehugger
05:49 - It's here.
05:50 We got to hunt him.
05:51 - While it's an interesting concept,
05:53 there's no way it could have actually happened.
05:55 In "Aliens," Ripley finds the queen
05:57 and removes it by opening the airlock
05:59 and destroys all the eggs on board.
06:01 - Are we gonna sleep all the way home?
06:03 - With that in mind, it seems incredibly unlikely
06:06 that one would have managed to survive.
06:08 There's no plausible explanation
06:10 for how the egg got on the ship,
06:11 and none of the characters ever think to question it.
06:14 It comes across as though the creators
06:15 had just forgotten the events of the previous film,
06:18 or worse, ignored them,
06:19 just so they could have conflict for the sequel.
06:22 - It was a mistake.
06:23 There was no need for any of it.
06:24 - Number three, Michael's mask constantly changes.
06:28 "Halloween H20," 20 years later.
06:31 We don't even know what to make of this one.
06:33 The seventh Halloween movie is centered around Laurie Strode
06:35 and her attempts to survive after her brother finds her.
06:39 While it has some great moments,
06:40 they're somewhat overshadowed by one distracting aspect,
06:43 Michael's mask.
06:45 - It sets the scene.
06:45 - As stupid as what it is.
06:47 The movie starts off simply reusing
06:49 the previous installment's costume,
06:51 but it quickly goes off the rails
06:52 with a variety of rubber and CGI replacements.
06:56 - Kind of wreaks a cheap scare, doesn't it?
06:58 - It looks different in nearly every scene,
07:00 from the brows to the shape of the lips.
07:02 The filmmakers apparently tried to edit around it,
07:05 but it was still a constant distraction.
07:07 - Who was that?
07:07 - My brother.
07:11 - Number two, Mogwai rules make no sense.
07:14 "Gremlins."
07:15 - Never, never feed them after midnight.
07:18 - There are two core rules that must be followed
07:20 to prevent the Mogwai from multiplying and becoming evil.
07:23 Don't let them get wet and don't feed them after midnight.
07:26 While these guidelines are adhered to most of the time,
07:28 there are moments that don't make sense.
07:30 - Look, I know it sounds crazy.
07:32 I know it does.
07:33 - At one point, the gremlins have multiplied
07:36 and are causing havoc.
07:37 However, they're running around in the snow
07:39 and it doesn't affect them at all,
07:41 even though snow, obviously, is just water.
07:44 - Now I have another reason to hate Christmas.
07:45 - It may seem like a small issue,
07:47 but when the movie only has a few rules,
07:49 it shouldn't have been hard to actually follow them.

08:06 - Number one, aliens coming to Earth, signs.
08:12 These creatures may have seemed vicious,
08:14 but they have one clear weakness, water.
08:17 In fact, at the end, it's the only way the protagonists
08:19 are able to kill the one in their home.
08:21 - I heard a theory that they don't like places near water.
08:25 - While it's certainly a convenient way
08:27 of handling the problem, it leads one to wonder
08:29 why the aliens would come to Earth in the first place.
08:32 It seems odd that they wouldn't be aware
08:34 that they're vulnerable to water
08:35 and that they wouldn't analyze the planet ahead of time.
08:38 - There are only a limited number of explanations.
08:41 - Even if they didn't know before arriving,
08:43 surely they would have noticed the vapor
08:45 in the atmosphere as they landed.
08:47 - It can't be luck.
08:48 - It's a plot hole that has been confusing viewers
08:50 for over 20 years.
08:52 Which horror movie do you think
08:54 has the most unforgivable plot hole?
