00:00 As we know Newcastle is full of old historic buildings that have been here for a very long
00:08 time. Some people tell tales of ghosts wandering the halls of some of the buildings and landmarks.
00:16 So we are taking a closer look at a few ghost stories in the city starting at the Theatre
00:21 Royal.
00:23 Apparently the theatre is home to the Grey Lady and it is said that she walks the halls
00:28 of the theatre. But how she got there is a bit of a mystery. Some say she threw herself
00:34 to her death from the upper gallery. Staff have reported seeing a ghostly figure but
00:39 is it just a story or is the Grey Lady real?
00:44 Our next ghost story takes place at another theatre in Newcastle. It looks like a lot
00:48 of ghosts seem to enjoy the shows.
00:51 The Tyne Theatre and Opera House just down the road apparently also has a ghost. It is
00:57 believed that Bob Crother was a worker in the theatre in the 19th century and he worked
01:03 backstage. He was apparently killed by a cannonball prop and people have said that they have been
01:10 touched by an invisible figure in the wings. It is also believed that Bob has been seen
01:15 sitting in his favourite seat in the theatre and those who have sat there have said that
01:20 they find it uncomfortable to watch a show.
01:24 Now our next ghost story is quite well known in Newcastle and a lot of ghost tours happen
01:29 around the area. Of course Newcastle Castle has been protecting the city for a very long
01:35 time so there have been a lot of reported ghost sightings in and around the castle keep.
01:41 There are a lot of spooky tales coming from within these walls and the one that is pretty
01:47 well known is the story of a flower girl who carries a basket and apparently when she is
01:53 around there is a smell of lavender. Then we walk to the Black Gate which like the castle
01:58 is believed to be haunted. But this part of Newcastle is apparently home to some poltergeists
02:05 with some people reporting to have been left with bruises and marks.
02:11 And our final ghost story is one that is down quite a spooky alleyway. The Old George Pub
02:16 is quite hidden between alleyways and just off the big market. Ghosts have been spotted
02:22 in and around the pub for a while. Apparently it is believed that Charles I would stop off
02:27 for a drink in the pub when he visited Shieldfield. There is a chair in the pub where the monarch
02:34 apparently sat all those years ago. Some people have reported that they have seen a ghost
02:39 of Charles I sitting in the chair and staff at the pub have also said in the past that
02:45 they feel like they are being watched.
02:49 Of course these ghost stories may be real or they may be a great story for some spooky
02:54 fans but if they are real it looks like a lot of ghosts want to hang around the city
02:59 of Newcastle.
