00:00 "I'm the king of the world!"
00:03 "Woohoo!"
00:04 Welcome to WatchMojo, and today we're ranking our picks of Leonardo DiCaprio's movies from worst to best.
00:11 For this list, we're looking at every film that features one of the best actors of all time,
00:15 and ranking them based on his best performances and the overall quality.
00:19 We won't be including documentaries or films that DiCaprio narrates, like "Hubble" or "The Eleventh Hour."
00:24 Since we will be revealing important plot points, a spoiler alert is in effect.
00:29 Let us know what your favorite Leo movie is in the comments.
00:32 "Whoop, whoop! Here I come. Here I come."
00:35 Number 30, "Critters 3."
00:37 The third installment of this creepy-crawly film was considered a low point in a franchise that didn't set the bar that high to start with.
00:44 Leo's performance didn't exactly stand out as terrible against the backdrop of this strange movie,
00:49 but he was the star, so he had to take a bit of the heat.
00:52 "Joshua, front and center now."
00:58 "Joshua?"
00:59 "Josh, please."
01:00 This direct-to-video film was the very first performance in his filmography,
01:04 and although he put in a valiant effort, even he couldn't save this movie.
01:08 Filled with weird, fake-looking creatures, a strange plot, and a below-par performance from his co-stars,
01:14 this sci-fi film that was supposed to be scary definitely came off more as laughable.
01:19 "Give me the keys, I'm gonna wait in the car."
01:21 "Forget it. We're in this together."
01:23 Number 29, "The Beach."
01:25 Over the years, we've seen DiCaprio get nominated for countless awards for his performances,
01:30 but his role as Richard in "The Beach" scored him his first nomination for a Raspberry Award.
01:36 "That's the way it has to be, and that's the way it is."
01:39 Set on Ko'opipile, Richard is trying to get away from our technologically advanced society,
01:44 but everyone on the island turns on each other and they pack it in.
01:48 This movie came out at the turn of the millennium, and Leo had already starred in many big movies,
01:53 so it was shocking to see him in this one.
01:55 "Yeah, really?"
01:56 "I like it out here, you know, things are different."
02:03 "I said things are different!"
02:05 While he didn't end up taking home the worst actor award,
02:08 the fact that he was even nominated was a huge indicator of how terrible this movie was.
02:13 [Laughs]
02:19 Number 28, "Total Eclipse."
02:22 This mid-90s movie based on a 1960s play about an affair between two 19th century poets
02:27 had good source material and a lot of potential, but it never quite lived up to it.
02:32 "We should make a bargain.
02:34 You help me, and I'll help you."
02:39 The film's portrayal of same-sex lovers was ahead of the curve,
02:42 but it didn't get properly recognized because despite a well-intentioned plot,
02:46 the execution was clumsy.
02:48 While we have seen Leonardo in period pieces before,
02:51 he didn't quite seem to fit the mold for his role as Arthur Rimbaud.
02:54 Unfortunately, he and his co-star instead came off as unlikable and unpleasant.
02:59 [Burps]
03:00 [Burps]
03:01 [Burps]
03:04 Number 27, "The Man in the Iron Mask."
03:10 The best part about this film was that we got Leo times two,
03:14 as he played the titular character Philip Bourbon as well as his twin King Louis XIV.
03:19 "But once you're a musketeer, I, like my father before me,
03:24 have trusted you with the gravest of missions."
03:27 Even a double casting couldn't transform this period piece about the four musketeers
03:30 into something watchable, as audiences remembered it more for being funny and strange.
03:35 In reality, the man in the Iron Mask's identity remains a mystery to this day,
03:40 but the writers took a strange creative turn in making him the king's twin.
03:44 Needless to say, that risk did not pay off.
03:47 This was DiCaprio's first film to be released after "Titanic,"
03:51 so everyone had high hopes, but it did not live up to the hype.
03:55 "I'm sorry I failed you."
03:56 "We failed you."
04:02 Number 26, "Dawn's Plum."
04:06 Leonardo DiCaprio and Tobey Maguire have been friends since childhood,
04:10 and it was fun watching their mostly improvised performance in this film.
04:13 "What's up, guys?"
04:15 "What's up, bro?"
04:16 "What's going on, bro?"
04:17 "Who are these girls, bro?"
04:18 "This is Sarah. Derek."
04:19 "Amy. Sarah. Amy."
04:20 "Amy. Amy. I don't know."
04:22 But it will not be remembered as one of their best.
04:24 Although it was amusing to watch at times,
04:27 "Dawn's Plum" was also awkward as it tried too hard to be an edgy work of art.
04:31 The film was originally supposed to be a short film,
04:33 but was re-edited to be a full-length one,
04:36 which led to it having no real plot.
04:38 "I apologize 100 percent."
04:40 "All right, bro. Sorry. Won't happen again."
04:44 It was filmed in 1995 and '96 before DiCaprio and Maguire became big stars,
04:49 and they didn't even want the movie to be released,
04:51 which should tell you all you need to know about it.
04:54 Number 25, "Celebrity."
04:56 This movie was written and directed by none other than Woody Allen.
04:59 While it had DiCaprio and many other big actors at the helm,
05:03 "Celebrity" was still not a hit.
05:05 "I never made moral judgments, so..."
05:08 "Did you say your name?"
05:09 "Nicole Oliver gave me my script. It's called 'Heist.' It's about an armored car robbery."
05:12 The film took a look at the lives of modern celebrities,
05:15 along with the obsession that seems to follow them around,
05:18 and Leo stands out in the film as a young, bratty movie star.
05:22 However, "Celebrity" was a commercial disappointment,
05:24 and it didn't even make back half of its budget.
05:27 "We can establish everything that we need to..."
05:29 [indistinct chatter]
05:32 "Get out of the way!"
05:33 "Make room!"
05:34 "Listen, Brandon, is tomorrow good for you?"
05:36 For some reason, it was not a well-known film despite its impressive cast and crew.
05:40 Critics thought it was a bit derivative,
05:42 so we definitely can't blame Leo entirely for this movie becoming a flop.
05:46 Number 24, J. Edgar.
05:48 This biopic told the story of J. Edgar Hoover,
05:51 who was the director of the Bureau of Investigation,
05:54 and was allegedly not out about being supposedly gay.
05:57 He worked to increase the Bureau's power while blackmailing political figures
06:01 like Franklin D. Roosevelt and Robert Kennedy.
06:03 "There's no reason we both can't get what we want."
06:07 "We can wage a war on two fronts, sir. You understand?"
06:12 "You can go now, Mr. Hoover."
06:15 To top that off, this film was directed, produced, and scored by Clint Eastwood,
06:20 so needless to say, it should have been a home run.
06:23 Unfortunately, it was critiqued for its poor production quality
06:26 and the fact that Leonardo didn't look much like Hoover,
06:29 especially in his old man makeup.
06:31 "Why do I kill everything that I love?"
06:34 While DiCaprio did end up getting a Golden Globe nomination for his role,
06:37 this story that had a ton of potential ended up falling flat.
06:41 Number 23, The Quick and the Dead.
06:44 While seeing a young Leo as a conceited cowboy in this non-traditional spaghetti western was a treat,
06:49 it wasn't enough to carry this film.
06:51 "I'm worth $3,000 in four states, 75 offenses and no convictions."
06:59 "My name's Fee, but, uh, everyone calls me The Kid."
07:05 The Quick and the Dead had an all-star cast that included Gene Hackman, Sharon Stone, and Russell Crowe,
07:10 and this was one of DiCaprio's first roles before making it big.
07:14 He gave a strong performance as The Kid,
07:16 but the movie was criticized for not being very convincing,
07:19 largely because of the other actors in the film.
07:21 "Damn, I'm fast."
07:24 "Did you even see me, I was so damn fast?"
07:26 "Woo!"
07:27 "Fuck!"
07:28 "You there, Mr. Sweetest Champion? Are you done?"
07:34 As a result, this movie didn't perform well at the box office,
07:38 but on the upside, it garnered more praise in the years after its release.
07:42 Number 22, Body of Lies.
07:44 Over a decade after they appeared together in The Quick and the Dead,
07:47 Russell Crowe and Leonardo DiCaprio shared the screen in this drama.
07:51 "Listen, Ed, we're going north now, do you hear me? We're going north to the Balad safe house."
07:56 "No, no, no, buddy, no you're not. You're blown."
07:58 They complemented each other well in their roles as members of the CIA in the Middle East
08:03 who attempt to capture a terrorist.
08:05 This political movie looked at the tensions between the Arab world and Western societies,
08:09 and it was released during Leo's peak hero phase in his acting career.
08:13 "So we're done?"
08:14 "Yeah, we're done. And someone will come to bandage your wounds."
08:20 While it was not necessarily a bad movie,
08:23 it was a conventional run-of-the-mill espionage film that didn't have anything new to bring to the genre.
08:28 Number 21, The Basketball Diaries.
08:31 While this film was not a bad one per se,
08:33 as it featured an adorable young Leo who showed off his impressive acting chops
08:37 even though this was still early in his career, it wasn't one of his best.
08:41 "Hey, what are you doing?"
08:42 "Oh, we're signing a vote for Bobby."
08:44 "Can I sign?"
08:45 "Yeah."
08:47 The Basketball Diaries was based on Jim Carroll's autobiography
08:50 about a high school basketball player with substance use issues
08:53 who tried to cope after his best friend died from leukemia.
08:56 "Gee whiz, Ma, you know,
08:58 you gotta have these hot-tongued talks more often, they're really good for us."
09:02 Leo as Jim took center stage in this gripping cautionary tale,
09:06 but the story got a bit messy.
09:08 The protagonist came off as unlikable,
09:10 and we were never truly sure if he recovered or redeemed himself.
09:14 Number 20, The Great Gatsby.
09:17 Leonardo DiCaprio reunited with some former collaborators
09:20 in this flashy take on F. Scott Fitzgerald's novel,
09:22 alongside longtime friend Tobey Maguire as old sport Nick Carraway.
09:27 "His smile was one of those rare smiles
09:30 that you may come across four or five times in life."
09:34 They also performed under Baz Luhrmann's direction,
09:37 who had previously directed Leo in Romeo and Juliet.
09:40 He brought his signature splashy, colorful, and fun aesthetic to The Great Gatsby.
09:44 While this movie was undeniably a bit over the top,
09:47 it was fun to see Leonardo in a romance movie again
09:50 after years of exploring other genres.
09:53 "I'm certainly glad to see you again."
09:57 "I...
09:59 I'm certainly glad to see you as well."
10:03 Leo was the perfect choice to play Gatsby,
10:06 as he is similarly someone who is idolized.
10:09 He is lavish yet approachable, yet we know very little about his life.
10:13 Number 19, This Boy's Life.
10:15 The third film in DiCaprio's repertoire was one of the better ones in his early years.
10:20 This Boy's Life is about Leo as Toby,
10:22 who copes with his mom's abusive partner Dwight,
10:24 played by Robert De Niro,
10:26 and Toby's friendship with a boy named Arthur.
10:28 "But we're both aliens here."
10:31 "See, I don't exactly feel like an alien.
10:34 I've got friends, you know?"
10:36 "They're idiots."
10:37 "You act like an idiot when you're around them."
10:40 In this role, DiCaprio showed off his acting expertise
10:43 with a range of emotions that were impressive for an actor of his age.
10:47 We got to watch Toby go from a young boy to a rebel
10:50 to someone who finds his own way.
10:53 [Music]
10:59 We were impressed that DiCaprio was able to stand out in this film
11:02 considering who he was acting alongside,
11:04 and we're not surprised this film is known for being his breakout role.
11:08 Number 18, Don't Look Up.
11:10 This Netflix film was Leo's first picture of the 2020s,
11:13 and it was made up of an ensemble all-star cast.
11:16 Don't Look Up is about a comet destroying Earth
11:19 while the leaders of the world tell the population not to look up
11:22 to try and keep them in the dark.
11:24 "They're actually firing scientists like me for speaking out,
11:28 for opposing them.
11:30 And I'm sure many of the people out there
11:33 aren't even going to listen to what I just said
11:35 because they have their own political ideology."
11:37 The film was a satirical look at the world's indifference
11:40 towards climate change and preoccupation with irrelevant things.
11:43 Considering DiCaprio's environmental activism,
11:46 we are not surprised he took on the role of a seasoned PhD scientist,
11:49 which he played convincingly.
11:51 "You've been on that side a lot lately."
11:54 "Yeah, I mean, I have like a quarter million subscribers, honey.
11:59 I gotta use my voice to get the truth out there, right?"
12:02 The movie is oddly funny and depressing at the same time
12:06 as it rang true to the situation of the world at the time.
12:09 And there was a true passion in Leo's performance.
12:12 Number 17, Marvin's Room.
12:14 No, we're not talking about the Drake song.
12:16 "Til it all goes bad, but shit, it's all good.
12:19 We threw a party, yeah, we threw a party."
12:22 After he starred alongside De Niro in This Boy's Life
12:25 and before we saw him in Don't Look Up with Meryl Streep,
12:28 Leo was in this underrated flick with both of them.
12:31 Streep played DiCaprio's mother,
12:33 and they played Lee and Hank respectively.
12:35 "This is Lee, your daughter.
12:38 And there's Charlie.
12:40 Right there, you see him?
12:42 Yeah.
12:44 And, and Hank.
12:47 Your grandsons."
12:49 Lee is estranged from her family
12:51 until her sister Bessie is diagnosed with cancer
12:54 and needs a bone marrow transplant.
12:56 DiCaprio, as Hank, is 17
12:58 and in a mental health hospital after an arson incident.
13:01 But he eventually stops his rebellious streak
13:03 and tries to help his family.
13:05 "Hey."
13:07 "What?"
13:11 "Nothing.
13:12 But just, if you decide to take a ride or something,
13:15 just, you ought to let me know."
13:17 It may have been hard for Leo to shine
13:19 among an already star-studded cast,
13:21 but this mysteriously unpopular movie
13:23 is still worth watching.
13:25 Baz Luhrmann's interpretation of this Shakespeare classic
13:30 set in modern day with dialogue that is anything but
13:33 was brought to life by DiCaprio and his co-lead Claire Danes.
13:37 [Claire Danes' "I Will Always Love You"]
13:45 The entire film had a tone that was a bit all over the place
13:49 as it was an acid-trip-induced party
13:51 paired with a tragic love story
13:53 and a grand act of teenage rebellion.
13:55 But DiCaprio as Romeo was undeniably dreamy.
13:58 And we can't blame Danes as Juliet
14:00 for falling for him instantly
14:02 and marrying him just as quickly.
14:04 "Romeo shall thank thee, daughter, for his both."
14:07 Everyone in the film tends to overact
14:13 and the film is definitely dramatic.
14:15 But then again, so is getting married
14:17 and then dying when you're in your early teens.
14:19 "Dateless bargain...
14:24 to engrossing death."
14:33 Number 15. Shutter Island.
14:35 Leo went through a phase of starring in movies
14:37 that could put your brain into a pretzel.
14:39 And this film was definitely one of them.
14:41 "These are all violent offenders, right?
14:45 I mean, they've hurt people,
14:47 murdered them in some cases."
14:49 "In almost all cases, yes."
14:51 "And personally, Doctor, I'd have to say
14:53 screw their sense of calm."
14:55 In one of the many great collaborations
14:57 between DiCaprio and Martin Scorsese,
14:59 he gave a stunning performance as an investigator
15:02 and patient in a mental health facility,
15:04 who seemed just as shocked as we were
15:06 when that twist was revealed.
15:08 The film was solving an entirely different mystery
15:10 than we were led to believe,
15:12 and Leo kept us captivated all throughout.
15:14 "You working for him?"
15:16 "I'm sorry, there wasn't any other way.
15:18 Someone had to stick with you, keep you safe."
15:20 "You mean watch me, huh?
15:26 Watch me every minute."
15:28 Who could forget that ambiguous ending
15:30 where Andrew ponders whether it's better
15:32 to live as a monster or die a good man?
15:35 How did it take this guy so long to win an Oscar?
15:38 This movie received three Academy Award nominations,
15:46 which tells us a lot about the cinematic chemistry
15:49 these two bring to the screen.
15:51 Based on a novel, this film tells the story
15:53 of a young couple who fell out of love
15:55 as they fought for their relationship.
15:57 "Tell me we can have the baby in Paris, Frank.
15:59 Tell me we can have a different life,
16:01 but don't make me stay here, please!"
16:03 "We can't have the baby in Paris."
16:05 "Why not?"
16:07 They went through the ups and downs of trying to have children
16:09 and extramarital affairs,
16:11 without holding back on the hardships that some couples face.
16:13 The couple disagreed on life decisions
16:15 while trying to keep up with the Joneses.
16:17 Both DiCaprio and Winslet give dark,
16:19 heartbreaking performances
16:21 as the film takes a tough look at a marriage on the rocks.
16:24 "Oh, don't give me that shit, April.
16:26 Don't give me that.
16:28 You think so?"
16:30 "You know goddamn well!"
16:32 While the storyline and writing in this film
16:34 were questionable at times,
16:36 DiCaprio was always on his game.
16:38 Armed with an impressive South African accent,
16:40 Leo played a mercenary on a hunt
16:42 for a gem that would change his life,
16:44 going through rebel territory on a hunt for the diamond.
16:46 "So don't tell me you're here to make a difference, huh?"
16:48 "And you're here to make a buck?"
16:50 "I'm here for lack of a better idea."
16:52 "That's a shame."
16:54 "Not really."
16:56 While the film was about the corruption
16:58 behind the world of African diamond trading,
17:00 it was clumsily watered down for Western audiences.
17:02 Nevertheless, DiCaprio's outstanding performance
17:04 as Danny Archer
17:06 was highly praised,
17:08 and he was nominated for Best Actor,
17:10 but ultimately lost out for the third time.
17:12 "Our deal went bad and you owe me money.
17:14 I'll take a stoners payment."
17:16 "Do you think if I found a stone like that,
17:18 I'd still be on this continent?"
17:20 "Come on!"
17:22 Number 12
17:24 This was the film
17:26 that got DiCaprio his first Oscar nomination
17:28 and put him on critics and viewers' radars.
17:30 He played Arnie Grape,
17:32 whose big brother was the titular character
17:34 who struggled to care for his family
17:36 amid all of their hardships.
17:38 "Don't do that.
17:40 You scared me. Come here."
17:42 "Going our way.
17:44 I was up there, Gilbert."
17:46 "Yeah, you were up in the tree."
17:48 "I was right up there."
17:50 Gilbert Grape, played by Johnny Depp,
17:52 was at the center of this film,
17:54 but it was DiCaprio's performance
17:56 that pulled at our heartstrings.
17:58 While this challenging role may have been hard to watch at times,
18:00 it was a testament to the young actor's abilities.
18:02 "I don't want to go down there, Gilbert."
18:04 "Please."
18:06 "No way, no way, no way."
18:08 Even though he was just starting his film career,
18:10 DiCaprio was able to keep up
18:12 alongside a cast that included Depp,
18:14 Juliette Lewis, and Mary Steenburgen,
18:16 and for that, he deserves all the praise.
18:18 Number 11
18:20 The Aviator
18:22 This film, based on real-life business tycoon Howard Hughes,
18:24 was another successful collaboration
18:26 between Scorsese and DiCaprio.
18:28 Hughes' life was anything but boring,
18:30 and DiCaprio was the perfect choice
18:32 to bring this larger-than-life man to the big screen.
18:34 "Welcome aboard, huh?"
18:36 "You're my voice now. Make 'em understand that.
18:38 Look, some of those fine folks down there
18:40 still call me Junior. You tell 'em it's Mr. Hughes now."
18:42 Howard Hughes set airspeeds in the 1940s,
18:44 and helped Las Vegas become the city it is today,
18:46 all while battling a pandemic.
18:48 A disease that would eventually lead to his demise.
18:50 DiCaprio's portrayal showed the crumbling life
18:52 of this highly successful man
18:54 in an endearing and powerful way.
18:56 "For your future, Howard.
18:58 Howard, for your future.
19:00 For your future."
19:02 "Just take a walk, Howard."
19:04 Because of Leo's strong performance,
19:06 not to mention a laundry list
19:08 of A-list actors as co-stars,
19:10 this film was nominated for 11 Academy Awards,
19:12 and earned a nomination for Best Actress
19:14 for the Best Actress Award.
19:16 Leonardo DiCaprio won 11 Academy Awards,
19:18 and earned Leonardo yet another Oscar nod.
19:20 Number 10. The Revenant.
19:22 This movie will forever be known
19:24 as the one that finally gave
19:26 Leonardo DiCaprio his Academy Award
19:28 after four previous nominations.
19:30 "Look at me, scalp."
19:32 "That's enough!"
19:34 "You're forgetting your place, boy.
19:36 As far as I can tell,
19:38 my place is right here
19:40 on the smart end of this rifle."
19:42 Or people may remember it as the film
19:44 where he survived a bear attack and briefly lived inside a horse.
19:46 Either way, The Revenant
19:48 was a true story from the 1800s
19:50 centered completely around Leo
19:52 as fur trapper Hugh Glass.
19:54 There were several scenes where it was just him
19:56 against the elements, and he was completely
19:58 captivating in this physically demanding role.
20:00 This was a big change
20:08 from his roles as Jay Gatsby
20:10 and Jordan Belfort just a couple of years earlier,
20:12 and this film gave him a chance
20:14 to show his versatility on screen.
20:16 Number 9. Gangs of New York.
20:18 At this point in the list,
20:20 it should be clear that DiCaprio
20:22 does well in period dramas,
20:24 and Gangs of New York was no exception.
20:26 "Now is that what you're calling us?"
20:28 "Well, I could think of a number of things to call you, boy-o."
20:30 "Right, but I asked if you was calling us chiselers."
20:32 "Supposing I am.
20:36 Well, then we got business."
20:40 This historical drama about a Catholic-Protestant
20:42 quarrel over control of Manhattan
20:44 marked the first in a long line
20:46 of collaborations between Martin Scorsese
20:48 and Leo. As an Irish immigrant
20:50 group protested the draft,
20:52 Leo as Amsterdam battled against
20:54 Daniel Day-Lewis' Bill the Butcher.
20:56 Both of these seasoned actors really showed
21:08 off their acting chops, and Gangs of New York
21:10 was nominated for 10 Academy Awards.
21:12 It kicked off DiCaprio's career
21:14 in serious, gritty movies
21:16 after being in romantic flicks
21:18 like Titanic and Romeo and Juliet.
21:20 Number 8. Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.
21:22 Quentin Tarantino's
21:24 love letter to the golden age of cinema
21:26 saw DiCaprio as Rick Dalton,
21:28 a former star of a western TV show
21:30 who was fighting to stay relevant.
21:32 "It's official, old buddy.
21:34 It has been."
21:36 "What are you talking about? What did that guy tell you?"
21:38 "He told me the goddamn truth is what he told me."
21:40 "Whoa, whoa.
21:44 Hey."
21:46 "I'm sorry about that. I'm sorry about that."
21:48 Dalton struggled with the reality of aging
21:50 in the film industry, while showing what happened
21:52 to actors when the cameras were not rolling.
21:54 We were treated to a great, improvised
21:56 performance when Rick had a breakdown
21:58 at the turning point of the film in a moment that
22:00 solidified Leo as a standout in a sea
22:02 of great performances.
22:04 The only thing better than DiCaprio's performance
22:14 was his on-screen chemistry with
22:16 the equally impressive Brad Pitt as Cliff Booth.
22:18 We aren't surprised that they
22:20 both got Oscar nods for this film.
22:22 Number 7. Killers of the Flower Moon.
22:24 We're used to seeing Leo
22:26 as confident characters who light up the screen.
22:28 He plays a Gence type in this Scorsese epic
22:30 as Ernest Burkhart, a spineless
22:32 ex-soldier who lives under his uncle's thumb.
22:34 While not especially bright,
22:36 Ernest is crafty enough to deceive
22:38 the Osage nation. This includes
22:40 his wife, played by the impeccable
22:42 Lily Gladstone.
22:44 Although Ernest may love his wife and children,
22:54 this is eclipsed by his greed
22:56 and fear of his uncle.
22:58 Leo masterfully embodies all of these layers,
23:00 portraying a simple yet
23:02 complex man caught in the middle.
23:04 Whether or not Ernest does
23:14 the right thing in the end, he'll always be
23:16 a pathetic individual.
23:18 You wouldn't think pathetic and DiCaprio
23:20 would go together, but Leo wears the mask
23:22 surprisingly well.
23:24 Leo is Cobb,
23:26 a thief who escapes into people's
23:28 subconscious to steal their thoughts.
23:30 But he's tasked with instead planting
23:32 information into someone's mind in order
23:34 to erase his own past.
23:52 DiCaprio's mental heists take a turn
23:54 as his past leaks into other people's
23:56 subconsciouses, as viewers try to unravel
23:58 this dream within a dream in a dream.
24:00 Sound confusing? That's 'cause it is.
24:02 But it's also genius and
24:04 intriguing, and we wouldn't expect
24:06 anything less from writer-director Christopher Nolan.
24:08 You can't keep her out, can you?
24:10 Right. You can't build because
24:14 if you know the maze, then
24:16 she knows it. Well, she'd sabotage
24:18 the whole operation. Cobb,
24:20 do the others know? No, they don't.
24:22 Leo brings humanity to this
24:24 mind-bending film as a lovable criminal
24:26 who we only hope finds peace in the
24:28 reality he ends up in, with the spinning
24:30 top relentlessly turning.
24:32 In this Steven Spielberg film,
24:36 Leo played Frank Abagnale Jr.,
24:38 a man who successfully impersonated
24:40 a pilot, doctor, and lawyer
24:42 while he was on the run from the FBI.
24:44 You do not feel sorry for me.
24:46 The truth is,
24:48 I knew it was you. Now, maybe I didn't get the cuffs on you,
24:50 but I knew.
24:52 People only know what you tell them, Carl.
24:54 Just like we have really
24:56 watched DiCaprio grow up before our eyes
24:58 over the last few decades, we watched Frank
25:00 transform from an innocent teenager to
25:02 a confident swindler. This role captured
25:04 Leo arguably kicking off the prime
25:06 of his acting career, and even though
25:08 this story has garnered some controversy
25:10 in recent years, the performances are still
25:12 memorable. Daddy, I'm getting married.
25:14 Can you believe that? I'm getting married.
25:18 You don't need to worry about anything now,
25:20 Dad. Listen, I'm getting
25:22 a brand new Cadillac. I'm getting a
25:24 $60,000 house. I'm getting
25:26 it all back. DiCaprio is
25:28 always charming, so he was a logical
25:30 choice to play this daring con man,
25:32 as we think we would believe anything
25:34 he told us to.
25:36 This Tarantino film depicted the southern United
25:40 States during the 1850s, and
25:42 Leonardo starred as Calvin Candy,
25:44 the owner of a plantation called
25:46 Candyland.
25:48 Gentlemen,
25:50 you had my curiosity,
25:52 but now you have my attention.
25:54 His acting was superb, and that
25:58 dinner scene where he smears his blood on
26:00 Harry Washington's face was not only haunting,
26:02 it was improvised. This was
26:04 a genius move for DiCaprio as he accidentally
26:06 cut his hand, and while we're
26:08 used to seeing him play the good guy, this
26:10 performance cemented that his acting range
26:12 is unmatched.
26:14 Now that should be your first, second, third,
26:16 fourth, and fifth concern.
26:18 Now after you have that, and you know you have
26:20 that, then you can start to implement
26:22 a grand design.
26:24 In other words, first thing
26:26 is first. First dang
26:28 first thing. Christoph Waltz as Dr. Schultz
26:30 and Jamie Foxx as Django were at the
26:32 heart of this film, but Leonardo DiCaprio
26:34 as Mr. Candy was the villain
26:36 we didn't know we needed.
26:38 The Departed was
26:40 Scorsese's first film to score him
26:42 an Academy Award, and the film won
26:44 three other Oscars to boot. This movie
26:46 is a who's who of prominent male
26:48 actors of the 2000s, as it starred
26:50 DiCaprio alongside Matt Damon,
26:52 Mark Wahlberg, and Jack Nicholson to name
26:54 a few. Do you know who I am?
26:56 No.
26:58 Leo shipped up to Boston to play Billy Costigan Jr.,
27:08 an undercover cop in the Mafia,
27:10 contrasting Matt Damon's Colin Sullivan,
27:12 who is a mobster pretending to be a police
27:14 officer. We were never entirely
27:16 sure who was bad and who was good,
27:18 and we never knew when the next
27:20 kill might be around the corner.
27:22 One thing we do know is that DiCaprio's
27:24 performance in this exceptional film was
27:26 one of his best.
27:28 Titanic. James Cameron's
27:44 epic story was the most expensive movie
27:46 ever made at the time, and
27:48 he clearly invested in the right actors.
27:50 Titanic was nominated
27:52 for a whopping 14 Oscars,
27:54 but someone was clearly missing from the
27:56 ballots.
27:58 Leo didn't
28:12 get an Academy Award nomination, despite
28:14 this film centering around Rose
28:16 telling the story of Jack Dawson.
28:18 DiCaprio's performance encouraged all viewers to
28:20 make it count, as Dawson's charismatic
28:22 and carefree character was a dream come
28:24 true in this period drama.
28:26 We can't blame Kate Winslet's rose-to-wit
28:42 bucator for falling in love with the boy from Third Class,
28:44 and these two were irresistible
28:46 as one of the most iconic couples
28:48 in cinematic history.

29:16 The Wolf of Wall Street
29:18 We loved Leo as a romantic lead, but seeing him
29:20 as a chaotic, selfish,
29:22 no-holds-barred broker who rose
29:24 and fell as quickly as the economy
29:26 was a treat. He took all of us
29:28 on a cocaine-infused, lavish adventure
29:30 through New York's high-rolling society,
29:32 and it was as intoxicating as he was.
29:44 While Leo may be his most memorable role,
29:46 The Wolf of Wall Street was one of the few
29:48 DiCaprio movies in which he took the reins
29:50 of the film without having to depend
29:52 on any side characters.
29:54 Even though Jonah Hill and Margot Robbie
30:10 appeared in supporting roles, this movie
30:12 will always be remembered for Leo,
30:14 as he was at the helm of this chaotic ride.
