00:00 With winter looming, Tatiana and her family have been chopping wood,
00:04 as well as stocking up on candles, batteries, flashlights and gas canisters.
00:09 She says last winter was one of the hardest they've ever faced.
00:14 "It was very difficult with all the power outages.
00:18 There were times when we had no electricity for two days.
00:22 I even wanted to leave, but my son said he wouldn't go anywhere.
00:26 We slept wearing hats and jackets, but somehow we managed."
00:30 This power plant was targeted by Russian forces at the start of the year.
00:35 On the ground, remnants of rockets.
00:39 According to the Ukrainian authorities,
00:41 Russian forces have fired more than 1,200 missiles and drones at Ukrainian power plants.
00:47 "About one year ago, Russia started energy terror against Ukraine.
00:52 We all experienced the consequences of these massive attacks,
00:57 and of course we learned our lessons.
00:59 We spent the last seven months to get prepared for the coming winter,
01:05 and I think that we are in quite a strong position now."
01:09 In August, Ukraine's atomic energy operator said that nuclear power plants
01:13 would be fully operational by winter, and would be able to provide electricity.
01:18 Here at this power plant in southern Ukraine,
01:22 one reactor was put back into service over the summer.
01:25 Each reactor has a capacity of 1,000 megawatts.
01:29 Ukraine counts four nuclear power plants, including Zaporizhia, Europe's largest.
01:34 It's been occupied by Russian forces since March 2022.
