Arkansas Razorbacks Al Walcott, Brady Latham and Chris "Pooh" Paul looking back at sixth straight loss to Bulldogs on homecoming Saturday afternoon and getting some much-needed time off.
Transcript
00:00 Brady, obviously it was a very tough day for the offense.
00:03 Kind of what was your assessment, what was going on?
00:05 KJ, you know, he just been one of the most aggravated passers,
00:08 so what were his hands didn't look like himself.
00:10 What was going on, maybe, do you think?
00:13 Yeah, I don't know.
00:14 I got to get in and watch film, and we all do.
00:16 It's really frustrating, but we need to get things.
00:19 I don't know if you saw that.
00:23 I think it was you that has a thumb overturn,
00:25 that got called back.
00:27 And that was a false start, but what was your take on that play?
00:31 Because it looked like something finally got in your all's way,
00:33 and then, you know, they get a penalty.
00:35 I saw Nico missed it.
00:38 I'm like, still on the ground. Okay, we got to get it.
00:40 Then I saw Brad missed it.
00:44 Said, "Oh, shoot, this is me.
00:46 You better win." That's what I was thinking.
00:48 And then I saw the penalty.
00:50 I'm like, "Damn, that's all right.
00:51 The offense got it." So, that's all that.
00:56 What did Mike Wright do for them,
00:58 and can you maybe talk about overall defense,
01:00 how you felt like you played?
01:02 I feel like the defense had a great game today.
01:05 Mike Wright, he's a great player, fast on his feet.
01:07 He showed us his speed today.
01:09 Just, you know, even though I feel like we played good,
01:11 we still got things that we need to fix as a defense
01:13 or as a whole, and we're going to get to work on that next week.
01:17 What the locker room feels like?
01:19 Because Sam kind of said we have to win this game,
01:21 and you didn't. Yeah.
01:23 We're frustrated. It's visible. You can see it.
01:27 But the thing I love about this team,
01:31 we're not going to bend. You know what I'm saying?
01:32 We're still together.
01:34 We're going to hold together just like this,
01:35 and we still know we got to finish the rest of the season,
01:38 and that's exactly what we're going to do.
01:42 Morale, there was that sequence there
01:43 where they pinned them down at the three-yard line.
01:46 They kept all starting backing up, backing up,
01:48 and they hit that jump ball.
01:50 Just how deflating was that play, do you think?
01:54 Really? Like Al said, we don't bend.
01:59 We went out there, and we bowed our necks after that play.
02:02 You know, that was a great catch by the receiver.
02:03 All props go to him. Great ball by Mike Bright.
02:07 But like I said, we went out there,
02:09 we bowed our necks, and we played Arkansas defense.
02:11 We wanted to stop them right there,
02:13 but, you know, there was just a little bit of adversity
02:15 right after that play, and we went by after that.
02:20 What do you think is going on with the run game,
02:22 just from your perspective as an offensive lineman?
02:24 I think each week we just need to get back in there.
02:30 We got to play extremely hard. We've got to get pushed.
02:33 We've got to focus on dominating the guys in front of us.
02:37 I think that's an effort on all five guys,
02:39 and that starts in the film room, in the weight room,
02:42 how we eat, how we prepare.
02:44 It doesn't just show up on Saturdays,
02:46 and that's what we need to do.
02:48 KJ's been dealing with a good bit of pressure
02:52 for much of the season.
02:53 Can you put your finger on game to game
02:56 what's happening with the pass pressure?
02:59 Yeah, that's extremely frustrating,
03:01 especially as an offensive lineman.
03:03 You want to pride yourself in protecting KJ.
03:07 And I know it's frustrating for KJ.
03:08 He's an extremely good player,
03:10 and we need to give him time to make plays.
03:13 So that's something we need to fix.
03:16 Great. Arkansas has had the reputation
03:18 of being a good offensive line.
03:20 Cody's well-respected. Sam's obviously respected.
03:22 Is there something you can put your finger on?
03:24 I know you're starting young tackles,
03:25 but you've had some injuries,
03:26 but is there something you can put your finger on
03:28 where things haven't worked for the offensive line very well?
03:32 There's nothing exactly that I can put my finger on.
03:38 I can just say that we need to go play
03:40 as hard as we can every single snap.
03:42 We need to take pride in what we do.
03:45 We need to take pride in playing for Arkansas,
03:47 and we need to get it fixed.
03:49 Five losses, not by one score. Six straight losses.
03:56 I don't think that'd have to be real tough
03:58 emotionally and mentally.
03:59 How are you guys dealing with that?
04:01 How frustrating is that?
04:02 How do you maybe bounce back from that
04:03 because you still have some games left out?
04:07 It's frustrating, and it hurts.
04:09 Nobody likes to lose.
04:10 But, I mean, like I said, this team is so close-knit
04:14 that we got to move on to the next game.
04:17 We have a bye week, so that gives us a chance to rethink
04:21 and think of the things that we need to fix.
04:23 But we still got four more games to still play,
04:27 so we got to just finish.
04:29 Yeah, like you said, we've got a good chunk of the season left,
04:36 and we need to go out there, play every game as hard as we can.
04:39 We need to try our best to get to Volga.
04:41 Those guys hit it on the head.
04:45 During the day when you lost six in a row,
04:47 kind of how did you guys approach that?
04:49 I mean, that feels kind of terrible.
04:52 Kind of like I said, we all competitive,
04:54 so we don't really like to lose.
04:56 But the thing about it is, like, you know, we stay together.
04:59 We come together as a brotherhood,
05:00 and we just keep playing hard-to-stop football.
05:01 We can't fold.
05:03 I mean, that's just not in us.
05:05 We're not going to fold. You know what I'm saying?
05:06 We're not going to bow down to nobody.
05:08 You know what I'm saying? We just got to finish.
05:10 And that's exactly what we're going to do each and every day.
05:13 No, I don't think you enjoy the open week when you lose,
05:18 especially how close we lost.
05:21 I think that it's -- but it is a good thing
05:22 because it gives us time to make corrections.
05:25 It gives us time to fix things.
05:27 It gives us an extra week on our next opponent.
05:29 So I think there's a positive way you can look at it.
05:31 But, no, I don't think you enjoy it.
05:34 I think that was the first game lost,
05:35 but you were back after missing last week.
05:37 I think you had a pretty good game.
05:39 What was it like being back and just how --
05:41 and you guys had some other guys back for accident
05:44 and can't ball, I think, play.
05:45 How good was it to have more of your defense back?
05:47 How'd you think the game went for you?
05:49 Hey, it felt great.
05:50 And the thing I pride myself on is
05:52 I just got to keep the energy up high.
05:53 So every time I was on the sideline,
05:55 I just tried to bring that type of juice.
05:56 And even on the field, I tried to bring that juice.
05:58 And that's just really why I pride myself on this game
06:00 is just, you know, just trying to make those correct calls
06:03 and things like that.
06:04 So just being back out there with the guys, man,
06:06 it's just blowing my neck with those guys
06:08 and playing with them on, you know,
06:10 whenever it got hard and things like that,
06:12 you know, it just really brought joy to me.
06:14 And I can't be more proud of this team, honestly.
06:19 Brady, even with all the offensive struggles,
06:21 you guys had, you know, two drives in the fourth quarter
06:23 to go win the football game.
06:24 I'm just curious, like, in those moments,
06:27 does it feel like there's maybe a little bit less confidence
06:30 within the group based off how's everything going?
06:32 I mean, what was kind of the belief with the offense
06:34 in those two drives?
06:36 Both drives, the belief was that we need
06:37 to go down there and win.
06:38 Our defense played amazing today.
06:40 They stopped them at every turn,
06:43 and they gave the ball back to us a bunch.
06:44 And it's our job to go down there and score,
06:46 and that's what we need to do.
06:49 Second play of the game, you picked it off.
06:51 Maybe can you say what you saw on that play?
06:55 Really, I'm just reading --
06:56 that's why I'm supposed to be reading on a one or twos.
06:59 Red one, pushing up bird.
07:01 A little bit, the peak at the quarterback,
07:03 followed up.
07:07 I can't remember what they did to get this touchdown drive,
07:09 but what happened on their one touchdown drive?
07:14 They just made a great play call.
07:16 You know, like I said, Mike Wright is a great quarterback,
07:20 and he has the vision of a quarterback.
07:23 So he just -- he rolled out. He made a great play.
07:24 He seen the wide-open receiving.
07:26 He got into the end zone.
07:31 You know, comparing scores is difficult,
07:33 but, you know, you guys took LSU to the wire.
07:35 You took Alabama to the wire on the road.
07:38 Alabama missed, and LSU blew out,
07:40 and Mississippi State in the start.
07:42 Is there any way to explain something like that?
07:44 Because people look at those scores and they're like,
07:46 "Hey, Arkansas was clearly superior."
07:48 And obviously that wasn't the case today on the field.
07:51 Well, it's just time for us to get back to work
07:53 like we did every other week.
07:54 You know, just bow our heads,
07:56 you know, get back in that feeling room,
07:57 get to recovering and things like that,
07:58 and just keep each other together and motivated.
08:00 You know, we just got to win the rest of these games.
08:03 Yeah, all I can say is every Saturday is different,
08:08 and you got to prepare every single Saturday.
08:11 Like, it's a new Saturday. You can't look in the past.
08:14 You just have to work and play extremely hard
08:16 and fix and get the results you want.
