00:00 Connor Golden with Motor Trend here in the studio
00:02 with the all new 2022 Honda Civic Sedan.
00:05 Honda has put an emphasis on making the new Civic
00:12 look lower, longer, wider, and overall more athletic
00:16 than the outgoing car.
00:18 As part of that push, they've moved this frontal area down.
00:22 They've pushed the A-pillars back.
00:23 Overall, the whole shape somewhat looks
00:25 like a rear-wheel drive car
00:26 with the weight over the rear axle,
00:28 kind of a smoothed out Accord-esque front end.
00:30 Looks really nice.
00:32 Another way that they've made this more athletic
00:34 and overall smoother and more refined,
00:36 Honda really worked to bring this area down
00:38 by about 1.2 inches in the rear passenger area,
00:41 kind of smooth out or sleeken the rear canopy area.
00:43 The track is wider as well in the rear.
00:46 Even the rear taillights have been kind of toned down.
00:48 Instead of the crab-claw style bulbous taillights
00:52 of the 10th generation, the new 11th generation
00:54 has much smoother integrated lights
00:56 on the rear decklid area.
00:58 (air whooshing)
01:00 The powertrain lineup is more or less the same
01:02 as it was in the last generation.
01:04 The base-level LX and the new mid-level Sport
01:09 have the two-liter naturally aspirated engine,
01:12 and then the EX and the trim-topping Touring
01:16 have the 1.5-liter turbo engine.
01:18 If you do get the more powerful engine,
01:20 you get 180 horsepower and 177 pound-feet of torque,
01:23 an improvement of six horsepower
01:25 and 15 pound-feet of torque.
01:27 Now, what we've got here are the two bread-and-butter
01:29 Honda Civic sedans, but they have already confirmed
01:32 a five-door hatchback is coming along with a Civic Si,
01:36 and of course, the new Type R,
01:38 so you better get excited about that.
01:40 Exterior's really great, love the interior.
01:45 Check this out, new thin-rim steering wheel,
01:47 really sporty design.
01:48 Shifter's been moved a little bit closer
01:50 to the driver to the left.
01:51 There's some really awesome hexagonal,
01:53 pseudo-metallic-looking single trim piece
01:56 that goes all the way across the dash,
01:58 hiding some of the air vents.
02:01 It's kind of really nice, premium-looking design.
02:04 This is available on all trim levels.
02:05 We're in the top-spec Touring trim right now,
02:08 so all of this might not be the new Sport
02:10 or on the EX or the LX,
02:12 but most of it is shared with the other cars.
02:14 A really nice, premium-looking trim piece
02:16 on the center console and on the door panel
02:19 is fingerprint-resistant,
02:20 so it won't get all smudged and gross-looking
02:23 when you're using it every day.
02:24 Drive mode selector offers Sport driving mode
02:27 for Touring and the Sport model.
02:30 The new Civic Touring also features
02:32 the Civic's first-ever all-digital gauge cluster
02:34 right ahead of the driver.
02:35 It's a configurable design.
02:37 You have the traditional digital-style circular gauges,
02:40 or you can select the bar mode
02:41 that pushes the speedometer and tachometer
02:43 to the outsides of the screen
02:45 in a vertical kind of bar graph, bar-level-style readout.
02:50 It's pretty cool.
02:51 Infotainment gets a boost as well.
02:52 The Civic's standard 7-inch touchscreen
02:55 incorporates CarPlay and Android Auto.
02:57 The EX and the Touring
02:59 have the optional 9-inch infotainment display,
03:02 so that's pretty big.
03:03 So that's the all-new 2022 Honda Civic Sedan.
03:08 If you want any more information,
03:10 more photos, a deeper inside look,
03:12 gotta go to motortrend.com.
