During a news conference held in Ottawa, Foreign Affairs Minister Mélanie Joly and Immigration Minister Marc Miller issued an update concerning Canada's diplomatic relations with India. Minister Joly confirmed that 41 Canadian diplomats have departed from India in response to the country's formal notification of its intention to revoke diplomatic immunities for all but 21 Canadian diplomats in Delhi by October 20. As a result of this development, Canada will temporarily suspend all in-person diplomatic services at its consulates in Chandigarh, Mumbai, and Bangalore.

00:00 As of now, I can confirm that India has formally conveyed its plan to unilaterally remove diplomatic
00:08 immunities for all but 21 Canadian diplomats and dependents in Delhi by tomorrow, October
00:16 20th.
00:18 This means 41 Canadian diplomats and their 42 dependents were in danger of having immunities
00:25 stripped on an arbitrary date, and this would put their personal safety at risk.
00:33 The safety of Canadians and of our diplomats is always my top concern.
00:38 Given the implications of India's actions on the safety of our diplomats, we have facilitated
00:44 their safe departure from India.
00:47 This means that our diplomats and their families have now left.
