00:00 Jada Pinkett Smith says Chris Rock once asked her out amid rumors she and Will Smith were divorcing.
00:06 "If we don't talk about it, we're not going to get to the other side.
00:10 Things are just going to stay in the cracks and fester."
00:13 Jada makes a surprising revelation in her upcoming memoir, Worthy, out October 17th.
00:19 And in a new interview with People, she claims the comedian once called her up and said he'd love to take her out
00:26 after reports swirled that she and Will were calling it quits.
00:30 "I was like, 'What do you mean?' He was like, 'Well, aren't you and Will getting a divorce?'
00:34 I was like, 'No, Chris, those are just rumors.' He was appalled, and he profusely apologized,
00:40 and that was that." ET has reached out to Chris for comment.
00:44 Jada's claim comes a year and a half after Will struck Chris live on stage at the 2022 Oscars
00:52 after he made a joke about the actress' shaved head.
00:55 "Oh, I love that."
00:57 Chris stayed tight-lipped about the whole thing, addressing the incident for the first time publicly
01:03 earlier this year during his Netflix comedy special.
01:06 "Everybody f---ing knows, yes, it happened. I got smacked like a year ago.
01:13 F---ing last week, I got smacked at the f---ing Oscars by this mother f---er."
01:18 During the special, Chris referenced the cheating rumors that surrounded Will and his wife in 2020.
01:24 "His wife was f---ing her son's friend, okay? Now, I normally would not talk about this s---,
01:32 but for some reason, these n---s put that s--- on the internet."
01:37 "I got into an entanglement with August, that's what I said."
01:42 "An entanglement?"
01:43 "Yes. Yes."
01:46 "A relationship."
01:47 "Yes, it was a relationship, absolutely."
01:49 "She hurt him way more than he hurt me, okay? And who's he hit? Me."
01:55 "I was just glad to see, after what happened and all the trauma and stuff,
02:00 that he emerged stronger."
02:02 "I'm glad he's getting a chance to be seen and appreciated."
02:06 Now Jada tells People she hasn't spoken to Chris since the slap,
02:10 but she's optimistic about a reconciliation.
02:14 "I just hope that all the misunderstanding around this can be cleared up,
02:18 and that there can be peace."
02:19 "It takes practice to have those difficult conversations with kindness and consideration.
02:26 The more that we talk about it, the more we can purify these subjects
02:29 and bring them into something new."
02:31 Also in the book, Jada reveals she and Will have been secretly separated for seven years,
02:37 something she opened up about to Hoda Kotb on Today.
02:40 "In 2016, you and Will decided that you were going to live completely separate lives.
02:49 It was not a divorce on paper, but it was a divorce.
02:54 So from the year 2016, which is seven years ago now, y'all have been apart."
03:04 But despite their challenges, Jada pledged to work through any obstacles.
03:10 "I made a promise that there will never be a reason for us to get a divorce.
03:15 We will work through whatever, and I just haven't been able to break that promise."
03:21 Will shared a similar sentiment to E.T. nearly a decade before they broke up.
03:27 "Divorce is not an option. We gonna be together.
03:29 So we gonna figure out how to be happy."
03:32 As for Will, following the Oscar slap,
03:34 the actor issued an apology and resigned from the Academy.
03:38 "There is no part of me that thinks that was the right way to behave in that moment."
03:48 And something tells us there will be more shocking revelations to come
03:51 when Jada's book hits shelves October 17th.
