00:02 - 3,829.
00:09 Lockie, who are you?
00:12 - 855-1284 Lachlan Stevens.
00:15 - 1814-168 CS James.
00:19 Every one of these men wrote a check
00:21 to the value of their life to the government of Australia.
00:24 These men cashed theirs in.
00:26 That is the commitment and sacrifice
00:28 these men made for you, for me,
00:30 and everybody who lives within the umbrella of freedom
00:33 that our government and our military forces provide.
00:35 - So that was a sharp awakening into what we're in for.
00:41 - That in itself reminded the whole group
00:47 that it's not just a war.
00:50 Anyone can tell you stories out of a book,
00:53 but no one can tell you what warfare actually feels like.
00:56 - It was a heavy moment thinking about
00:58 what they did in Papua New Guinea,
01:00 what these guys went through.
01:02 That's built the foundations for the country we live in now.
01:06 - You're at the foothill
01:14 of one of Australia's greatest stories.
01:16 You know you are literally walking in the footsteps
01:19 of those who served to protect your country
01:23 and in the footsteps of those that died and remained there.
01:26 - At any point in time,
01:27 someone is going to be having a bad moment,
01:29 and it's my hope that the others in this team
01:32 see that and lift that person up and carry them through.
01:36 - Lead a group of guys to do something
01:39 which is bigger than ourselves.
01:41 - So my hope for you is by the end of this week,
01:43 it gives you 1% to understand some form of their service.
01:48 - It makes you want to appreciate how hard it is out there
01:52 and what these guys went through.
01:53 It really hits how important family makes you
01:56 and people that I've known three days,
01:59 willing you up the hill
01:59 and willing you to continue to succeed.
02:03 - It's what makes you do something.
02:04 That's what Pecota is.
02:05 - Seeing a bunch of blokes connect with each other
02:17 on a deeper, significant level,
02:19 it's something so special.
02:21 - Those four guys, I didn't know before the adventure
02:25 and now we'll be mates forever.
02:27 - A real nice reminder of what's important in life,
02:36 which is each other.
02:38 - Keep pushing on, do their sacrifice justice
02:43 by being the best person I can be.
02:45 - By the end of that experience,
02:48 they're different people to what I met.
02:50 - A pinpoint life-changing moment.
02:53 It's something that will be with me forever now.
02:55 (upbeat music)
02:58 - She said, "Oh, you're a hero."
03:06 I said, "Alice, if ever you call me that again,"
03:09 I said, "I'm gone."
03:10 People and men that didn't come home, they're the heroes.
