00:00 And what I found was living on this island was some of the most venomous snakes in the world and lots of them now
00:06 I survived on this island for 24 hour periods living off the land with these deadly creatures on a number of occasions
00:14 So I decided to step it up a level this time around but first we need to get there
00:19 *Music*
00:33 Have a go at that
00:36 Wow
00:39 He's not a bad size one as well. That's so sad. I've always wanted to film a big eastern brown
00:44 This is the second most venomous snake in the world. We'll get him off the road so that if anything else tries to come on
00:51 The road and eat him they won't get hit by a car
00:53 *Music*

01:53 All right, so now that we got the dangerous part out of the way for the next three days
01:57 I'm gonna be surviving on Snake Island with some of the deadliest creatures on earth now
02:03 I've kayaked out to this place before I've walked out here on foot. So it's cool to bring the bike out to this place
02:09 It's gonna be good weather. So none of my clothes will get wet
02:12 But yeah, we'll be riding out in three days time if all goes to plan
02:15 So this island is home to most of the top ten most venomous snakes in the world
02:22 So what I've brought out here with me this time is obviously a snake bite survival kit
02:26 If I was to get bitten by a highly venomous snake out here, that would save me
02:30 I bought my snorkeling gear a knife and a fire starter and all my camera gear and that's everything that I've taken out here this time
02:37 It's gonna be a pretty wild adventure
02:39 We're gonna get into it start walking around straight away and see if we can find some of the most venomous snakes in the world
02:45 There's so many other cool and rare species of animals that we're gonna film over the next three days
02:50 Mate, we got three days on the island. Let's get into it and see what we can find
02:54 All right
03:11 So this beautiful snake just down in front of me here is the highly venomous red-bellied black snake
03:18 Such a gorgeous species one of my favorites that I can find over here on this island almost in this exact spot
03:24 I found a big one just over that way
03:26 Probably about twice as big as this one really fat snakes and they have the ability to get up over two meters long
03:32 So they're not a small snake
03:33 Now the reason why is here and the habitat that these snakes live in
03:38 Anywhere you find water sources up and down the east coast of Australia
03:42 You'll find these red-bellied black snakes normally in good numbers
03:45 Now these red bellies used to be in a lot better numbers back in the day here in Australia
03:49 But what happened was in 1935?
03:51 There was a species of toad known as the cane toad introduced here into this country and it was actually a poisonous species
03:58 It's so silly because there's no other poisonous species of frogs or toads over here in Australia
04:03 So when these cane toads came in and were introduced into this country
04:07 All the animals are seeing this toad for the first time thinking it's a food source eating it and then dying
04:12 There was around about a hundred cane toads that were originally introduced
04:17 into the top end of Australia because
04:19 There was something known as the cane beetle that were eating the farmers sugar cane and they thought that if they introduced these toads
04:25 That eat all the beetles, but they completely ignored them and now over in Australia
04:30 It's estimated that there's nearly 200 million cane toads and they're still spreading across Australia
04:37 But the amazing thing about these red bellies is in the areas that the cane toads were first introduced
04:43 They've had almost a hundred years to adapt to that poison
04:47 Look he's gonna go for a swim
04:51 Wow
04:53 Look at that as I said
04:55 They're just at home in the water as they are on the land
04:59 You are so cool, mate
05:02 Just keeping my distance
05:07 Letting the snake do its thing don't want to disturb him at all
05:11 But how cool is that?
05:13 Chillin with the big red belly
05:16 You watch he's gonna go off and do his own thing right now. We're gonna let him be
05:20 Well, yeah, he's just crawling in that log right now as I was saying in places where the toads were first introduced
05:31 This species right here. The red belly has adapted to be able to consume small toads small amounts of poison
05:38 Now that's not saying that they can feed on them and have them as a consistent diet
05:43 But they might eat a toad get sick survive it and learn from it and maybe eventually
05:47 As new red bellies keep getting born at some point
05:51 They might even stop eating toads altogether and know that they're poisonous. We're gonna keep going. What a cool animal experience. He's chilling in that log
05:58 [Music]
06:20 Take a look at this little fellow over here
06:22 Just sitting down on the rock
06:25 Just creep up to him. How cool is that?
06:28 All right. Let me set my camera up and get a good shot of him. All right, mate. You're all good
06:33 Take a look at this big fella right here. He's beautiful. Just perched himself up on this rock right here
06:40 Now what this is is it's the bearded dragon
06:42 Heat of the day at the moment this guy's out here sunning himself warming up for the day
06:46 He's got the right idea
06:47 They're cold-blooded creatures same with all the other snakes on this island now this for me is actually a new species to find over here
06:54 I know that they're over here
06:56 I've got a big list of species that I have ticked off but like this guy and the death adder and the eastern brown
07:02 They're all species that I wanted to find over here. So we've ticked this guy off
07:06 Hopefully death adders next maybe an eastern brown snake
07:10 Those two species are a lot harder to find on the island than the other ones that I have been finding
07:15 Over my past few trips here. Oh, yeah. He's a gorgeous lizard. He's really chill really calm
07:20 He's more focused on camouflaging himself than he is getting away two more days of this
07:25 We've already found so many cool species already
07:28 Need to find a good place to set up camp for the night
07:31 One of the pretty scary things is I've found dog footprints over here on this island
07:35 So there was wild dogs over here at some point whether they're still on this island or whether they've moved on
07:41 Something I have to be careful of along with all these venomous animals
07:49 So what I'm gonna do now is I'm gonna get my snorkeling gear out jump in the creek and see if I can swim with any
07:55 Cool fish turtles or anything. I'm gonna have to catch my own food in there later on the salvo
08:00 So try catch a big catfish or a bass whatever's in there with my bare hands and cook it up back at the shelter
08:06 Should be pretty cool. Let's see if we can snorkel with a longfish or something
08:09 *Music*
08:11 Take a look at this big orange colored snake
08:34 Sitting above me in this tree right here. Now. He's just sleeping at the moment
08:39 We're not gonna disturb this animal. But what this is is it's a brown tree snake Boyga irregularis
08:44 Now the whole Boyga family is such a cool family of snakes
08:47 And the reason why I love this family of snakes so much is the experiences that I've had with this family
08:53 Overseas in different countries like Borneo and Bali the mangrove cat snake Boyga dendropula
08:59 Had such a cool experience with that guy while I was deep in the jungle of Borneo in a crocodile infested river
09:06 Under the full moon. I'll roll you the clip of that one
09:08 So we've just found the first mangrove cat snake a mildly venomous species in the Boyga family up in this tree
09:15 Or above croc water at the moment. I'm gonna climb up and grab it out, but he's such a gorgeous animal
09:21 This is the snake that we were looking for the one we wanted to find out here in Borneo
09:25 And we did it think you can feel the good energy those good vibes and you can really get a deeper connection
09:32 With an animal like this. It's not saying he's not gonna bite me, but
09:36 Just looking into this snakes eyes right now
09:40 Very powerful animal so yeah mangrove cat snakes such a beautiful species
09:45 So blessed that I was able to go out there and find one of them
09:48 And this is pretty much the Australian version
09:51 He's kind of looking down at my head at the moment now also when I was over in Bali working with the Bali reptile rescue
09:56 Rescuing big king cobras from people's backyards
09:59 We found the dog tooth cat snake which is also in the Boyga family
10:03 I'll roll you the clip of that guy what we found down right here
10:05 Is in the same family as the Boyga irregularis back in Australia these guys are also called Boyga
10:12 They have a mild venom similar to the brown tree snakes
10:15 He's looking at me in the face at the moment if I was to get bitten
10:18 I'd be fine maybe a bit of swelling around the bite site
10:21 But it's so cool to find these different snakes over here in Indonesia. Look at him
10:26 *Mumbling*
10:35 So yeah, this is the Australian version of those mangrove cat snakes whoa
10:41 Just whip me in the face, but yeah, we're gonna let him go
10:45 That was so cool
10:47 *Music*
11:11 Now I've actually been night snorkeling in this river plenty of times before and it's the craziest thing
11:17 There are some massive Mary River cod that live in here a protected species
11:21 We're not allowed to catch these ones especially at this time of year
11:24 It's actually breeding season for these cod and I've been in shallow sections of this river and seen huge lungfish
11:30 These things do get massive up around two meters long and the ones that size could be pushing a hundred years old plenty of turtles
11:37 Tilapia other species in this river. Yeah, we'll see if we can find any during the day
11:42 So I was just snorkeling around in the creek and I've spotted a big lungfish sitting in the shallows up ahead of me
11:48 I'm gonna chuck the goggles back on creep up on him
11:51 Maybe walk with him for a bit and then jump in and swim with this giant animal. So about
11:56 250 million years ago. There was a mass extinction event which supposedly wiped out
12:03 95% of marine life
12:05 These lungfish were one of the species that survived and the reason being is because they're fully built for it
12:11 They can survive up to five years buried in the mud if there's major droughts and they do so over in countries like Africa
12:18 And even here in Australia, but in a big river like this
12:21 He'd be absolutely loving it cruising around feeding on shrimp and small fish along with those Mary River cod
12:27 They're a protected species
12:29 But it's so cool to see a good population of them in remote sections of river like this
12:34 And I mean, I'm not sure how old that lungfish would be I'm guessing 30 years old
12:38 But he could live for another 70 years. They live for over a hundred years out in the wild
12:42 So we haven't had rain in a long time in this area
12:53 It needs a big flush out to get that creek system going again
12:56 But I can kind of use this to my advantage to try catch food because the water levels are so low
13:01 Even though I haven't bought anything like a fishing rod or a spear or anything out here to try and catch these fish
13:08 I reckon I'll be able to grab a catfish or something if I can find one in a little pool
13:12 There's plenty of catfish and perch in this area. We'll try find one. Under this rock is a little catfish.
13:18 I reckon he's legal as well
13:22 This is where it connects up to the big stream down that way so we're gonna try grab him
13:30 Got away
13:37 Here he is
13:39 There's an eel there
13:44 There is an eel just down there. Oh, he's going mental. Oh
13:49 See the bubbles coming up he just went under the rock
13:55 Bass right there big bass or is that a perch?
14:01 Sitting just under the rock that's where the caddy was
14:06 So there's an eel a catfish and a bass in here. I've just blocked off that end so it can't actually get out
14:12 We're not gonna worry about the catfish or the eel
14:15 That bass is dinner. It's legal so you can see him. He's just under that leaf right there
14:20 Sitting up under those rocks
14:22 That is so cool now. It'd be so easy to get him with the hand spear right now, but here in Australia
14:28 It's actually illegal to spear fish in freshwater
14:30 So what I'm thinking
14:33 let me take my shirt off and
14:36 Try to pin him with my shirt and kind of like a net up under those rocks
14:40 Maybe if I
14:48 Got him
15:03 Yes, take a look at that Australian bass caught barehanded
15:10 Mate
15:16 Look at that
15:18 Take a look at that
15:21 That is a good fish. Yeah, look
15:24 You'd have to be happy with that. I reckon it's a high 30 centimeter bass
15:30 Taken on top water. So obviously I didn't bring any food out here with me
15:34 So if I don't catch a fish like this, I'm not eating that pool right there
15:38 Although they can get out into the deeper section. There's an eel and a catfish in there
15:42 If I'm out here for three days
15:43 I might try get one of them over the next three days in the second third part of this series
15:59 All right, it's late afternoon we're gonna cook up this bass and then find a place to set up camp tonight
16:04 *Music*
16:31 All right, so he caught a feed found a bunch of animals now what we're gonna do wait for it to get dark
16:36 Find a place to set up camp camp out here for the next three days. See you then
16:41 Massive first day over here on the island
16:49 So many cool species two more days left. This is my camp for the night
16:55 I've just set up in this little creek bed
16:57 There's a nice little place here that I can lay down use my backpack as a pillow didn't bring a hammock tent or any kind
17:03 Of shelter out here. But yeah, it's gonna be pretty cool sleeping under the stars
17:07 Or actually under a canopy at the moment. I can't see anything but full moon at the moment
17:12 So maybe that'll bring a couple cool animals out. I'm gonna save my torch battery for tomorrow night
17:17 I'm not gonna go for a night walk tonight
17:18 But yeah
17:19 Just to know that around me in this area and primarily at night is when a lot of these highly venomous
17:26 Snakes come out and other animals too. But yeah with the amount of footage that I got today
17:30 I'm guessing that that's part one of this three-part series. Thank you for watching part one. I'll see you all next week
