00:00 So here we are at the Parliament House for the opening of voting today on the referendum.
00:06 It's been a big day already.
00:09 Yesterday we took something like a million votes, which is the largest single day of pre-poll voting in Australia's history.
00:15 We've had over 6 million pre-poll votes already around Australia.
00:19 We're predicting over 8 million votes today, with people coming through the door, being looked after by our 100,000 workforce.
00:27 These are members of the community who are stepping up to help Australians have their say.
00:31 Mostly it's been calm and we're hoping it stays that way.
00:34 And Commissioner, can you speak about that huge effort to get the volunteers and all the resources for this day?
00:40 It really is Australia's largest peacetime logistic fair.
00:44 100,000 temporary staff, fantastic phenomenal amount of cardboard equipment, printed ballot papers, 7,000 polling papers.
00:54 We've got remote mobile teams going all over Australia at the moment.
00:58 These are by car, helicopter, plane and boat to get the vote into communities with as few as 10 enrolled electors.
01:07 So it's just a huge effort and we're very, very proud of the work of our staff and the temporary staff in delivering it.
