00:00 What do you want to be when you grow up?
00:07 It's the question every kid spends much of their childhood pondering, and this Darwin
00:13 Primary School has a program dedicated to answering it.
00:17 Our kids were saying that they were nervous about the future, about careers and secondary
00:22 education and subject selection.
00:24 Since 2018, the Quest program has been connecting students in years 5 and 6 at Larrakia Primary
00:30 with professionals in a range of industries.
00:33 From fisheries to forensics and hospitality, students are being served a taste of different
00:39 careers.
00:40 We've been learning about DNA, blood samples and how we can extract DNA from things as
00:44 simple as a cookie bite.
00:46 The program giving students clues to help them crack the career code.
00:51 It makes me want to focus in more of like a science-y area where I can like progress
00:55 the world.
00:55 Quest has won international teaching awards and has even attracted teachers from overseas
01:00 who hope to introduce it to students back home in Malaysia.
01:05 We were really, really infused by what they're doing here to try and get local communities
01:08 involved in their teaching. So what we're looking to do is hopefully borrow some of
01:11 the ideas from Larrakia and hopefully use them back in our own school.
01:16 At the end of the program, students host an expo to show their younger peers all the career
01:21 highlights.
01:23 And this is us at ABC Studios. And this is a very famous waiting room where lots of famous
01:30 people have waited.
01:32 Going to ABC and Hot 100, I like excursions but also experience what it's like in the
01:37 workplace.
01:38 We want the kids to be more hands-on and practical and actually seeing that side of the field
01:43 than just pen and paper.
01:44 There might be many years of learning left before I officially pass on the mic.
01:50 We can't wait to grow up and be the next generation's professionals.
